I agree and tried to order from Apple. They page that asks existing/ new service, when I "clicked existing add line" a prompt came up that said I have to go to an ATT store. So I ordered online through ATT. MISTAKE! I just know ATT is going to screw the pooch on this one! My status is still: in progress, with no shipping info.
Weird mine is saying delivers by the 19th. Still no tracking number just "Prepared for Shipment".

I ordered on the 9th, getting the same thing as you.
Same here but Apple Insider posted an article saying Apple announced that anyone who ordered before the 15th will get it on launch day.

Ordered 32GB in ATT Store 6/9 during lunch. Order is still open, but doesn't say backordered either. In case others (like me) don't know where to look online for ATT:

Don't panic, everything will be ok
When the original iPhone launched, there were plenty of phones on launch day and the days that followed. When the 3G launched, same deal. Plenty of 3GS phones will available as well this weekend.
Of course, maybe demand is growing since most comments have changed from "AT&T is ripping us off, I'll refuse to buy a 3GS" to "When is my new phone coming, I can't wait, I need the direct number to FedEx China, STAT!!!!!"
(OK, actually I'm praying supplies are plentiful. I started out a week ago with thinking supply will be no issue to stressing out big time this weekend. So much so, I finally ordered one online this weekend. Needless to say....Not yet shipped. "Hello, FedEx China.....")

pre-ordered on the 13th
I pre-ordered right at 10am on the 13th at my local AT&T store. They told me I may make the cutoff for the phone this Friday, but it is not looking good. I am not deadset for it since I am getting a massive corporate discount on activation fees (waived) and hefty monthly discount on the family rate plan.
what I don't get though is why if I pre-order I don't get my phone, but people can stand in line Friday and get one at the same store? Makes no sense to me. But I will be patient since I am saving so much cash...funny, our discount is almost double what AT&T employees get. LOL! They were shocked by the % we get. Gotta love those corp discounts. Also they were running a "managers discount" sale so got the applecare, a car charger and a case for $100 per phone. Saves about $50 which is a sweet deal if you ask me. I love saving $$ CASH IS KING!

Ya I dont know why people who pre-ordered gets theirs after the people who stand in line... but then again they are not guaranteed a phone

No b/c sales reps are generally dopey and can't be relied on as accurate sources in instances like the iPhone launch. The rep is just parroting the general Apple line that ship/arrival dates are estimates. In the iPhone case Apple specifically guaranteed delivery "By June 19th." I'm going to take that over some minimum wage order taker.
