I don't see any advantage to manually reinstalling apps and data. I would suggest just letting it restore from your old phone. It went just fine for me, except it's still waiting for AT&T activation. I imagine they're getting slammed, though.

edit: activated now 🙂 It had been sitting "searching", so I cycled power. My 2G is now a fancy iPod Touch 🙂 I just plugged it (the 2G) back into iTunes and everything looks the same. I believe you'll only see "activation" if the 2G is moved to a different machine.

I'm in Chicago and it's 2:55 and still no fedex... It's out for delivery, it's almost 3pm and I'm getting tired of waiting ... come on fedex ... hurry up !

Seems like people in LA that ordered through Apple, got their phones this morning delivered by UPS. I'm being held hostage in my own house by FedEx. 😉
 
Delivered!

I ported my number from Verizon and it couldn't have been easier. iTunes took care of everything and I was up and running in about a minute.
 
We got our by UPS at 10:00am and by Fedex at 12:45pm, not too bad! We are enjoying them!

It's been fun, until next time!
 
toluca lake, but no tracking # still says in progress.
lady told me they sent sim and no paperwork.
someone else said it should arrive in 7-10 days, another said, august 1.
they told me june 22. No info at all. no emails.
terrible!!
trying to cancel at&t to switch verizon now.

No signature required, so you don't have to sign for it after all.
Got to Fort Worth, Texas June 15th. But took 4hours to ship it from 10 miles from my house in Largo? WTF?

Yup, mine was delivered to my office in El Segundo right before 10 AM. Currently on hold with AT&T customer service to activate (upgrading from old nokia phone)... zzzzzzz...
 
I'm on Oahu, Hawaii - UPS said "Out for Delivery" but then that disappeared 😕

I was kinda surprised they flew from Louisville, KY straight to Honolulu, HI 🙂

Hopefully should be here soon..
 
No more pre-orders for me...

Well I pre-ordered my Black 32gig iphone on Sunday, June 14 at 11am. I waited so long cause I had to wait for my paycheck to go through... Anyway I spent all night watching all the people in this forum talking about their iphone adventures. I enjoyed all the highs and lows. The people tracking the flights were a riot. Hoped everything went off without a hitch... anyways here is my complaint....

Up until 2 hours ago my At+t e-mail for tracking only showed in progress. No shipped info, no tracking number, no nothing... So I called my store I pre-ordered from and asked them if they had any more phones still in stock (over 6 hours after launch). They had 19 of the version I wanted. I asked them if I could cancel my pre-order since I did it in store and not online. The sales person said I could cancel my pre-order but I would have to pay full price again. Well since At+t had not even taken any money out my account yet, I thought about it... Wouldn't you know as soon as I got off the phone a debit for my phone was taken out of my account, leaving me no way to pay for the 2nd phone. I am hoping that them taking my money means it is getting ready for shipment on Monday or Tuesday....

Held hostage by Pre-Ordering.....😡

It doesn't even show mine out for delivery. It shows it at the facility.

Does anyone think that they just miss scanned it?

I can't get in touch with anyone at my house to confirm.

I also just noticed that when I track it, it no longer says its delivery date is June 19th!! It has nothing!!!
 
almost 2pm here and still haven't received despite being 5 miles away from the sorting in south san francisco.. seriously guys... this is beyond late...

Well FedEx does deliver as late as 5 or 6 PM... but if the status isn't out for delivery, then you might be SOL. 🙁
 
Got my iphone via Fedex at 3:05 (they ALMOST made it on time haha) but now it's stuck activating ... and the worst part is, they deactivated my old phone ... so now i'm phoneless

How long did the activation process take for everyone?

and it worked right away? I'm getting a message "Activation in progress. This may take a while" ... I had a ATT before ... motorola razr2 ... so maybe because they have to like switch my accounts and stuff it's taking awhile. idk ... i just have to wait 🙁
