Usually I hate whites ...but now I'm thinking I'll wait to see 'em in person. Hopefully I can hold out till then. Still no word on availability?
Let's try to get Apple's attention about this issue. I've emailed this letter to Steve Jobs and a few others at Apple. Give it a read and share it on your social networks (twitter, facebook, myspace, etc). Maybe if it gets spread around enough, Apple will respond.

Well written Shelly! I'm gonna spread it around.
600,000 preorders crashing AT&T's site and running Apple out of product until July 14th isnt enough?
Do you really think Apple would piss off their loyal customers in order to get a little advertising out on one of the fastest selling products that isnt even out yet?
I am a bit surprised at how this all came about as well, the crashing sites, the lack of one of the colors.
In short, I wanted a black 32G and got my order in safe and sound at 6AM Eastern on the first try, pretty happy about that, coming from a 3G. But my girlfriend, well, she has had a rough year, being laid up with spine surgery for a couple months giving her mongo medical bills. So her Verizon contract expired, she is now month to month and wants to upgrade from her current low end phone.
She wants a white one and since this is her very first iPhone, a white one she shall get, we can wait it out. I am paying for it and taking over her phone bill from here on out, she deserves it so I hope Apple gets this sorted out when they can.
The bottom line is this was not a gag or a stab at us, if they were not having come kind of problem with either the production numbers or some glitch with the white phone in particular, this thread would not exist.
So try not to take what is most likely a sound business decision personally and accept that until Apple has a solid answer to give, there is no answer to give. And believe me, they know about the outcry, I am in NYC right now shooting a book project and went into the 5th Avenue store, it was all people could talk about.
So perhaps consider doing something more constructive instead of some internet witch hunt, like helping the world figure out how not to kill it self off with oil gushing out into our food chain, fresh air and water supply. That stuff matters, this phone color crap does not.
Yes, I do.
If this wasn't for publicity, or to create additional buzz/demand, or to increase Q3 sales by launching the white model in July they would have made a statement by now.
But they haven't made a statement because they simply don't have to (and most likely don't have anything to say). Do you really think they give a crap that 10 less spoiled brats don't buy an iPhone because they couldn't get their hands on one 10 seconds after it was released?
They come out much further ahead by everyone coming here and posting a new thread every 10 seconds and the millions of people hitting refresh on Apple's website hourly "just in case".
While some may argue there's no such thing as "bad" publicity, I disagree in this case because I too believe Apple does not need THIS situation for the publicity. They are constantly in the news this year regardless to necessitate them announcing and showing off white iPhone 4's, talk about them being available at the same time as the black model, and then pulling it at the last minute with no explanation or ETA. It's B.S. No matter what you say or how firmly you believe Apple doesn't owe us "spoiled brats" a damn thing, the big point here is that we are very big Apple fans who want this white iPhone 4, we want to give Apple our money for a yet unseen in person product, we were LED TO BELIEVE it would be available, and then slapped in the face. I don't care what you say but that's not good business. Pissing off your customers is not a good thing no matter how you look at it. And they are pissing a lot of people off.

The only thing that is going to get Apples's attention is picketing outside their stores on launch day and getting the media envolved!

Sadly, this sounds crazy but is probably true. Anyone remember what eventually caused Apple to accept cash & giftcards for the iPad?? It was a woman (in SF i believe) that went to the media about how she didn't have a credit card, saved all this money and then was denied an iPad by apple. Next thing you know, Apple announces dropping the "no cash" policy, came to the woman's front door with a FREE iPad and an apology! The power of bad press goes a long way, friends.
As much as I'd like Apple to hand deliver a white iPhone 4 to my door... I don't think crying about my color preference in front of a news camera is going to get me anything.
Don't get me wrong, I am not happy with all this uncertainty about the phone's availability... but it doesn't tug at the heart strings like that poor lady who has bad credit in SF.
I've no problem with waiting for white. I haven't even decided which one I want. I was just exhibiting how Apple has a way of turning bad press into good press. And getting the phone COLOR of choice is a far stretch from getting an iPad as your first computer, which if I remember was said woman's situation (i honestly don't know how her credit comes into play, though you seem to make relevant in your sarcasm). So is not being able to spend your cash in hand vs. a color preference. I think it's ridiculous how people are so worked about it this, though people seem to say it's nothing to do with the color, but rather how Apple "lied" to them. Corporations "lie" all the time. It's called advertising, andis one of the best in the game. That's all I'm saying.

Unfortunately you're in the camp that just doesn't get it. I for one do not believe Steve Jobs or Apple lied to us at all. It's the lack of communication and COURTESY I take issue with, and just because most, or even all corporations may behave this way in your eyes, that does not make it OK, and I expect more from Apple and so do many other people.
I think something happened after WWDC to prevent the phone from being available right away... but instead of leading us on and having us plan for 8 days on getting the white one only to find out for ourselves at 2am Wednesday morning we cannot get it, or even know when we could get it, was just rude. I don't think it's smart to treat your customers that way, especially high end ones. Period.
Whatever. You were up til 2AM. Gosh! That's rough. I was up til 7AM. Now who's looking to pull at heart strings. I say, "Poor babies!" Are we so spoiled in our consumerism that we take issue with a decision/indecision by our favorite computer company, rather than with issues that actually matter?
I'm just as much an avid fan as most on these forums, but there has been waaaay too much fuss made over what comes down to getting the COLOR of phone you want WHEN you want it. You lose respect for your fav company? So be it. Maybe instead of whining, we could use this "unfortunate" series of events as an opportunity to GROW UP.
LOL how about you grow up and visit another thread since you have such a problem here? You're obviously missing the point.
I wasn't complaining about being up until 2am either, please. That isn't it at all. I'm talking about 8 days looking forward to a product that wasn't there when it was to be expected. Yeah, it's not the end of the world. I never said it was. But that does not excuse the fact that Apple handled the situation badly, by ignoring the situation, leaving people in the dark only to wonder and speculate and run rampant making these types of posts on message forums all over the internet. Had they given an ETA or said something, people could have made a decision and moved on.

Exactly. Being ignored is the reason we are all so pissed. We hope every day that news about the white one will be sent down from Apple and yet nothing!
