addition to nextgen iTouch?

I've only read first page of posts, but, surprised that no one has suggested ability to have some sort of storage card, microSD. this would make sense if Apple ever added camera/video capability to the iTouch. otherwise, it seems like most users can handle all their music on 8GB or 16GB.

I like idea of nicer screen like the one on my BB Bold. Its great.

It can't be that good...

Apple would not be putting a camera, SMS etc. inside an ipod touch, because they are some of the reasons that people would buy an iPhone. Apple prefers to sell iPhones to touches because they make more money off them. What they do not want is people to not buy an iphone and have a touch instead because the features are so similar, but the touch is cheaper.
I think the new touch will have a better speaker, 802.11n wifi, OLED screen and 64GB storage, where the iphone will be limited to 32GB, although a 64GB will be available later. 128GB would not be released in the near future because it would be too expensive. Maybe iPod touch 5G.

Hold on a second... People don't buy the iPhone because it has a camera! They buy it because its a phone. An awesome phone! Camera's are so common on cell phones today that everyone takes them for granted. So I highly doubt that the camera is a very large factor in ppls minds when they decide whether or not to buy the iPhone. However put one on the Touch and that's revolutionary. There is not a single mp3 player that I can think of with that kind of a capability. I think the addition of a camera would increase up Touch sales but in no way decrease iPhone sales. Besides the iPhone is unique enough with 3G and phone capabilities.

a camera (eventually, maybe not this release) and a bigger screen that takes up nearly the entire face (eventually)

I like the bigger screen idea, agreed no camera yet, but I think we will see hints of design and features when we see the release of the new iPhone this June :D

All I Want.

I just want a 2.0 megapixel camera just like the iPhone, but with video recording. Also I want a vibrator like the iPhone, so when you play games you get the feel. More RAM like 256 MB would be better than the current 128 MB. Thats all I want.

The bigger screen (or maybe a smaller bezel) is interesting, and definitely apple-like. Although, if they shrunk the bezel they'd take away space from the innards of the 'Pod/iPhone.

IIRC, in an article a while ago someone mentioned how 128MB is as big as they could go without some extra trouble. Here's hoping though.

Maybe Apple could make the black bezel touch sensitive, even if there's no screen under it. It would really help with games like X-Plane, with sliders on the edge of the screen.

3rd Gen iPod Touch

A larger screen sounds nice. Some places I go prohibit devices with cameras, so that's not one of my priorities. What about a way to add memory, like a mini SD slot, store large txt/doc files and the capability to read books or other documents when the iPod Touch is turned horizontally? I still don't know if I'd need more than 8GB, as I normally carry less than 1GB music on my current iPod nano. Some of the games and other apps look really neat. How much space do videos take up on the average and should one leave space in RAM for the iPod Touch to work properly?

"What to expect from third generation of iPod touch?"

I'm a product/furniture designer, and it usually takes two prototypes before you get to more of a "final" product. "3rd time's a charm", they say. There is always something I see that can be improved with my own designs, even though I thought they were nearly perfect before building the latest version.

So I expect polish. Apple has been creeping up on "perfect", but there is plenty of room for polish. The UI should always have both portrait and landscape modes. Even the home screen(s) should change when you tilt the Touch. If nothing else, the icons can spin 90 degrees in place. We're getting landscape modes for email, stocks, and notes. IMO the maps app, clock, calendar, iTunes and the App store should also get a landscape mode. We're getting stereo bluetooth (which should have been "ON" in the first place with 2nd gen!). We're getting search, both local (to each app) and system-wide. The screen could be better (AMOLED), and the whole device could be lighter (see the cowon S9).

For additional hardware, there are two possibilties. One is to add things to the Touch itself. The other is to make add-ons that use the dock or bluetooth to interface with the Touch. Given Apple's reference to the latter, I'll bet we see both GPS and Camera devices that you can "add-on" for an additional fee. Keep your Touch in your pocket, but have the iCamera send photos to it via bluetooth. Park the iGPS on your car's dash, and have it send coordinates via bluetooth to your Touch while you navigate from the back seat. Everyone who insists the Touch will never get camera or GPS are half right. Everyone who want this hardware with their Touch gets it, externally, for the usual Apple (high) price.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
4D ;)

Third Generation iPod Touch Features??

Okay... so i bought my iPod touch 2g in January.... and now i'm extremely unhappy about how soon the 3rd Gen is coming out... some are speculating about all the features it has... So now i'm wondering if i should sell my Touch on ebay... and get a 3rd gen touch. THe one way to determine if it would be worth it is if there is enough of a hardware update..

so do you think:

1. The new iPod Touch will have a camera?? with video capability?
2. Will it have XM satellite radio (highly unlikely, but i remember reading it)
3. Significantly Faster processor..
4. More than the 128MB of memory available? (that would be nice!)
5. Wireless 802.11n support?

So which of these features will be there? and if not in the iPod touch which of them will show up in the iPhone? -- i ask because my sprint contract will be terminated by the end of this year... and an iPhone would be nice and if that is the case, then i will sell my 2nd gen touch and instead of buying an iPod Touch and keeping my Sprint service... iPhone HERE I COME!!! :apple:

I want
1. a camera!
2.COPY AND PASTE!
3. editing documents on the go
4. Printing Wirelessly
5. Syncing Wirelessly
6. Bluetooth to add peripherals (headphones, keyboard)
7. Ability to use as a flash drive
8. Better Speakers and easier microphone input with having to buy those applebuds!

1. Hopefully
2. Confirmed with Iphone 3.0 OS
3. That would just be a software update
4. Probably not
5. Hope so but drain battery
6. Probably
7. Never
8. Speakers wont get better and apple wants you to buy their earbuds

if you are looking for major game changing features...i highly doubt it. apple isn't going to ostracize millions of users from the APP store in itself...especially in this current economic state. (let me clarify...apple isn't going to create an ipod touch that requires its own special store because of how advanced that ipod touch is. there will always be a few distinctive apps that require the latest gen to operate properly or as intended.)

however, as each new model of the ipod touch is released the CPU has improved and i imagine ram being boosted as well for overall "snappiness."

it was already mentioned the wireless n would be supported as well. as far as a radio is concerned i do know that bluetooth and the radio chip will be activated in 2nd gen ipod touch when 3.0 goes live.

camera is a no-go.

the magno which was discussed earlier is another interesting approach for the iphone and possibly the ipod touch. but, it is a feature that really doesn't make me want to wait for - considering i would like to replace my first gen ipod touch now simply for the ability to use my skull candy fmj to make skype calls.

if you need it - buy it. you won't regret your purchase...and when the time comes just sell it (take care of your ipod touch).

no matter how long you wait - there will always be some kind of latest and greatest a few months later...just be content with what you have and when you need it.

so do you think:

1. The new iPod Touch will have a camera?? with video capability?

NEVER going to happen, makes it too much like an iPhone (why people want a camera on an iPod is beyond me.... do people not have camera mobile phones?)

2. Will it have XM satellite radio (highly unlikely, but i remember reading it)

very unlikely

3. Significantly Faster processor..

most likely addition so far

4. More than the 128MB of memory available? (that would be nice!)

this would be a choice by apple and if they can get it running sufficiently with 128mb then they will stick with this cheaper option.

5. Wireless 802.11n support?

this could be a good chance addition

Knowing Apple there is no way to know. Enjoy your Touch. It'll get better in June with the 3.0 update. There has been nothing in the 3.0 firmware to indicate new hardware features, although we might see another Touch, perhaps in a different size.

Okay... so i bought my iPod touch 2g in January.... and now i'm extremely unhappy about how soon the 3rd Gen is coming out.

The 3rd generation touch is not coming out soon. iPods are updated in September. (The latest iPod shuffle is an exception because it hadn't been updated in years)

Flash

I'd like to see the third generation of the iPod Touch Micro SDHC compatible that way you can extend your library if you need to but can understand why they wouldn't "production/sales of the larger format devices" but i think i saw something about the new iPhone being able to have Micro SD cards now

if apple gives the iPod Touch a SD card reader then i'll defiantly buy it "especially because of all the music i have on my MBP"
