iPod touch [Merged] What to expect from third generation of iPod touch?

iPod Touch 3G! (Not IPhone 3G), Check it Out!

I was wondering if an IPod Touch 3G would come out? I'm getting an IPod Touch for my B-day (Late June) but I have those feelings where I might regret buying it due to a newer version coming out. Does anyone have any news? (Even rumors) of the 3G Touch coming out? I heard thats it's coming out late June but not sure if thats true as well as September as they aways have new stuff coming out then :S. Side note, did Apple or some other company announce that the IPod Touch 2G would come out like during spring last yet? If they did, they should announce it soon and if not, then I guess their just going to randomly put it out.

No one announced the 2G early. You may be thinking of the fact that Apple released the 32GB 1G Touch that February.

Based on the past few years though, 3rd Gen will be out in September.

Which is most likely right. The touch is an advanced device, and there's only some much they can add without waiting for technology to shrink once more, so there's no way they'll update it faster than once a year.

Camera would be nice, I personally would love to see Unibody iPhones/iPod Touches.

It wouldn't surprise me if the next generation of iPods/iPhones don't have the Apple USB syncing input, that Apple's newer machines will sync through the headphone jack like the iPod Shuffles.

It would be sweet, although I see it coming to iPods, as the metal interferes with cell and wifi reception. But on an iPod touch(with plastic wifi window) it would look amazing. And it would remove the issue of polished aluminum scratching:eek:.

I don't see Apple abandoning its iPod connecter, as that would remove capability with many "Made for iPod" products. I could see that implemented as well as the 30-pin connecter though.

I'm not going to be getting a new Touch for a few years since I just got my 2G in December. So everything I'm looking for is really software based.

The thing that really has me excited is the bluetooth chip and the ability to use the 30-pin connector for the 3rd party devices.

I'm gonna be getting some bluetooth headphones for sure. What I'd love to see is a small keyboard and word processing app. It would make my life a lot easier.

Everyone I've heard from says that Bluetooth headphones have abysmal sound quality, due to the very limited Bluetooth bandwidth. Be sure you know absolutely everything about what you're buying into, by doing some research.

Before the app store came out, the reason people bought the iPod Touch was because they were tired of the click wheel. If you want a click wheel, buy a Nano or a Classic.

However, It would be much better if they made it thicker. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the thinner the iPod, the less memory and/or battery life. I wouldn't mind it being thicker; that would actually help, because, as it is, it could easily slip through a sewer grate if dropped. My 2nd Gen iPod actually fell right out of my pocket, and was taken before i even noticed, so it would be great if they made it thicker.

Not necessarily :p

The 8, 16 and 32GB iPod touches are all the exact same thickness, so it doesn't affect it that much :)

I agree that they should thicken it. It won't help the memory because flash memory is already tiny but they can fit in a nice and big battery.

the ipod touch gets a tiny bit thicker. buuut we get a camera and bigger screen i think this idea is realistic so reply..... no haters:)

id also like to say that........ for you who think that puting a camera is making it to much like an iphone just think of this....... when apple made maps and wifi on the ipod touch we would probably of argued the same thing...:D

I think it would be great if apple gave choices of different screen sizes. Just like they should do with the macbook. I mean if the macbook pro can get 2 different screen sizes why cant the macbook.
 
I don't get why they don't just make the next touch with a hard drive like with the current iPods (not touches :p), they could make more variety sizes and it has to be cheaper for them to make aswell surely?
 
HD based touches are a dying breed. The iPod classic will probably be axed this year or next.
 
I'm just going to put what I would like to see in it.....
Frist off I would like to see a Camra ,at least 2 to 2.5 megipixle , Bluetooth, flash for the web, make it more custmizabela (I know I spelled that wrong) software wise, better battery life, better, wifi, be able to deleat songs like with app with out connecting it to the computer, video cam, ( if it did have the video cam it would be cool to be able to stream/upload the video directly from the iPod/iPhone to the web to such sites as YouTube, google video, ECt.....(also be able to send videos/songs or other files to other people on iPods on the network that your on. )) make the smallest 16 gb & the biggest 64 gb. Better video res. Be able to download anything off iTunes store ( incuding videos, books Ect....)

sorry to burst your wish list bubble but I don't think apple will be puting a camera on the touch cause it would be making it too much like an iPhone. (who knows they might suprise us all with the 3rd gen)

Bluetooth - well that looks to be a given since the 2g has it

flash - damn straight this needs to be implamented, I cant believe we are on the 2nd generation iPod and iPhone and still no flash support.

battery life on my 1st gen seems to last me a full week I generally only ever charge my iPod on a sunday and I'm set (unless I sit on the train playing games...... which I rarely do)

wifi - how do you mean better wifi?

I like the idea of deleting songs within the musicplayer, then begs the question of how it would work....... what would happen when you next sync? would iTunes (like with apps now) see it was deleted and untick it to be synced.
 
it's exciting to predict what'll be coming. at least I clearly see something that mic will be added just like iphone because voice recording app is added to iphone 3.0 beta (including 2nd Gen. ipod touch). I like to see camera, too. we will also see bluetooth as well. actually, it is already confirmed on iphone 3.0.
 
Well what I mean by better wifi is one that picks up a weaker signal. But on the Bluetooth matter is differnt it is on the 2nd. Gen but you must jailbreak to get it( well that's what I heard.) it has something to do with the Nike app. :rolleyes::apple::apple:D

Here's what I'd like to see in the next iPod Touch

I'd like to see the headphone jack moved from the bottom to the top. You can't use those large battery packs that attach directly to the Touch, and still use the headphone jack at the same time. Different on the iPhone: the jack is on the top.

When I fly, of course. You can't charge it on the plane with their hardware, so you have to use a battery extender. the only one i've seen that doesn't block the headphone jack is the Tunejuice. But it uses AAA batteries. I'd have to carry a case of those little buggers for a long flight.
