Everyone who insists the Touch will never get camera or GPS are half right. Everyone who want this hardware with their Touch gets it, externally, for the usual Apple (high) price.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
4D ;)

...yup. No need to wait. It's called an iPhone.

The UI should always have both portrait and landscape modes. Even the home screen(s) should change when you tilt the Touch. If nothing else, the icons can spin 90 degrees in place. We're getting landscape modes for email, stocks, and notes. IMO the maps app, clock, calendar, iTunes and the App store should also get a landscape mode.
Completely agreed here. Sometimes I turn an iPod touch landscape only to find it stays in portrait.

If we wanted a phone, we'd get the iPhone (see sig).
Turning this around...

If you wanted a 32 GB iPhone, then get an iPod touch.

what is with people and 802.11n? There would be zero advantages to it and it would just cut down your battery life.

Simple answer is that any non 802.11n devices on an 802.11n network slow everything on that network down (including 802.11n devices), so there is a definite advantage to having 802.11n on your mobile devices.
Currently, I run two wireless networks to get around the problem, but it would be a lot simpler to just run one!

Apples new Airports support dual networks so your N network works independently of the B/G network to avoid the slow down issue while maintaining compatibility.

easy there trigger. how about people start being more realistic on what apple will produce on the ipod touch? you know they sell unlocked iphones now so go that route then.

"i want a camera, gps, built in mic, etc etc..."

get real people.

Microphone.

Does anyone have reason to believe that it may home an internal microphone?

I would like to hear your opinions please.

What about a camera? It is not impossible.

Please share your thoughts on this also.

Adam.

Ipod 3rd Generation

Im imagining the 3rd gen. ipod touch to hav a camera and gps.Possibly a bigger screen and a tad bit more battery life.

what im hoping for the 3rd gen ipod touch

-camera
-more gb. maybe an 80gb if its possible
-longer battery life
-improved speakers
-maybe a mic

*Ahem*
$600 for 8GB? $700 for 16GB? I'll pass. ;)

Considering the state of the memory market and Apples push for games/movies/apps, anything less than 128gb is worthy of mocking.

I'd like this to work as a device to offload pics from my DSLR.

N wireless would be nice, as would a faster chip.

And a mike could be very helpful.

They could make a device that would make me weep with joy, but knowing Apple's tactics the past years, it will probably fall short in many areas.

iPod Touch 3rd Generation needed updates!

iPod Touch 3rd Generation needed updates are:

1. 4G internet that you can get for a monthly price. This will help business users that just want the iPod Touch and not the iPhone. Also, this will make it a better navigation system and more.

2. 4 to 5 megapixel Camera! Why all the space and can't capture moments or VIDEO!

3. iPhone 3.0 software - Pretty much completes most wants.

4. Documents to edit on the go - Almost here thanks to Documents to Go, which will be available on the iPhone and iPod Touch soon.

5. More space for the buck. Scratch the 8GB and make it 16GB.

6. Longer Battery life!

7. DivX and more codec support. Which I think it will have, because Quicktime X will have it.

8. File Mananger!!!!!!

9. Boost Mobile speakers!!! LOL! Those phones are very loud.

10. Flash, Silverlight, etc.. support for Safari.

I have a lot more ideas, but some I have to keep for myself.

here's my list

1. iphone 3.0 software (plus a mobile iwork thing)
2. Camera
3. gps
4. bluetooth \
5. 32, 64, 128gb
6. wireless sync
7. built in support for that new wireles charge pad
8. built in mic
9. merged app store and itunes (video downloads)
10. horizontal home screen (like leopard)
11. flash support
12. wireless n support

Inclueded accesories:
1. headphones with mic and remote
2. universal dock

My List:
cheaper 32gb $300 would be perfect
bluetooth headphones included
camera
louder speakers
mic would be good
touchstone like charging /sync device
bigger HD screen
longer battery

All I want for christmas ...

Is GPS in the iPod Touch! A bit sooner would great as well though :p

3 generation

some things i would like are built in camera and maybe built in making videos.another thing would be longer battery life. so these things would be great and i would by it in a heartbeat :)

You all are gonna be very upset when you don't get your "built in camera" and if you do I will eat me words, I just don't think apple will do it.

I want:

Aluminum Back ( Silver/ Black ) - won't be a problem because the wifi antenna is separated anyway.

Thinner - No need but you know Apple will try.

Better Resolution / Bigger Screen - If the new iPhone has it the Touch will.

64GB Option - number one reason I haven't updated yet.

Better Speaker - probably the same quality as the 3G ( The new iPhone one should be better )

Touch Controls on Bezel - Only when games or Certain applications are active to prevent accidental touches

DO NOT WANT

GPS - why ? you can't get real time directions and everything has to be uploaded before you leave anywhere

Camera - again why? even if they put a 2 MP Camera it is still not very good and people will complain, plus I do not want a camera on my iPod, I know the iPod does many things with the OSX software but the Hardware would look like an iPhone if they did idk I just can't see it nor would I like it.

PLUS adding these 2 features would make it more expensive, the 3G is what? $700 if bought outright and with the Touch you'd only be 3 features away from it being an iPhone, meaning:

antenna
phone software
and mic

If you add GPS and a Camera Apple is closing there own gap of Product Recognition. Yes there's the old argument " Well an iPod doesn't cost $2000 a year in monthly fees " That's not the point I am making, I'm talking about 2 products being presented with similar features and similar hardware casings.

Ever heard of preloaded maps, which exist on practically every GPS device in the market that's not a phone? Would not even take close to 1 GB of space to have the entire US mapped in detail.

Far better than the iPhone's way of doing it.

I'd rather fill up the 1GB of space with music/apps then have it taken up by a feature I'd never use.

+1. I don't need random streets in West Virginia on my ipod/iphone. I live in California; the most I'd need is So-Cal and Atlanta, Georgia, the rest I would rather download as I go.
