my 2 cents
Thought Id chime in here since I, too, am waiting to see what happens on Tuesday. The Inqurier, the Apple Reps, the Apple Store clerks, etc know very little, to nothing at all, about major updates. New MBP/MB bumps would be a major release, so the information just isn't going to be out there. I've read posts where people said Apple reps told them to "Watch the Apple website" ... really? OMG? ... cause I was expecting them to tell me to watch the Dell site for MBP upgrades.
Secondly, does anyone here have a MBP currently ordered? Is there a delay on it? When I bought my 1st Mac, a PB 12" 1Ghz, three years ago I put in an order for the Rev A. They delayed my order and bumped the machine I recieved. If no one has delayed MBP orders, my hopes for Memron on Mon. are slim to none. If there are delays, any at all (esp. BTO machine) then I might allow myself to get a little excited.
My real dilema is this. I perfer Refurbs when it comes to computers. They have the same warranty, the same "As New" look, all the software, all at a price hundreds less than new. PLUS, you know that your Mac was tested and coddled MORESO than a new one off the line. As such, the question arises. If Im going to spend X amount on a new MBP, do I get the Memron, as an entry machine (2000.00 w/o tax), if it is released? Or do I get a Maxed out Yonah for the same price (2064.00 w/ tax), if not slightly less? Its a quandry to say the least.
Regardless, I have placed my current Powerbook in an eBay auction that I have scheduled to insert on Tuesday at Noon PST. If no Memrons by the time it sells, then I order the Maxed out Yonah refurb. I am a long time computer professional, and I realize that having the newest, latest and greatest doesn't really mean alot in the long run ... well unless you count adding extra money to Apple's coffers. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Im just making a point. If it runs and does the work then buy it, you really think your going to notice the few extra seconds the newer proc is going to shave off? Probably not in most cases.
