What programs that dude? it sounds awesome!!:p

I looked through my favorites but i didn't save it!!!!!... Hmm It was iGriffin or something like that... hmm... think... I must have wrote it down somewhere

It was a program acctually made to be used so that you could talk to the companies products, but it also made it possible for voice commands on your Mac...

Yeah i'm pumped!

The program i'm most excited about is this software that you say to you mac and it will open programs or control certain things. I was reading on here how someone had his MBP programmed so he would say "Hello Mac" and it would say "Hello [his name her]. How are you today"

I'm gonna change my Mac out like crazy. Clear doc. Candy bar. All kinds of things... ok... I should stop or i'm gonna geek out...

Things like candy bar and clear dock I've got, however, I won't do anything major. most of the icons i keep stock. (although I can't stand the adium icon)

I dont mind waiting until 2007

i want my MBP to have iLife 07 and Leopard on, but i was hoping for C2D MBPs to be out this week then faster onces in 6-9 months time.

I currently have a dual 2.0ghz Powermac G5 which runs at a similar speed to a 2.0Ghz Core duo iMac so getting a MBP not or with the current C2D chips found in the iMacs, it won't be a lot faster.

I want more than a 50% speed increase

I want a Mac Pro laptop!*

Good for you, wait until 2009 if you'd like, you clearly don't need a laptop.

Haha, you sound REALLY pumped to get your merom macbook pro. As far as mods go, I like to keep the icons totally stock, I really do not like to change things AT ALL, I'm a very big apple purist. So pretty much I change my background once a week, but other then that, my macbook pro is 100% pure. If you got any cool software ideas however, let me know :)

Same here, but I'm also not opposed to trying new things for the sake of trying them. You can bet when I finally do get my C2D MBP, I'm going to be experiementing on it quite a bit with appearance and UI. I used to love doing that on my old '99 iMac.

Leopard will run 32-bit and 64-bit natively. It will even be able to be installed on PowerPC computers. Apple would never come out with an OS that couldn't be ran on 3/4 of the computers they have sold. You do NOT need Merom to have Leopard on your computer.
It's incredible to think that the sarcasm of my post was lost on you.

Question to all of you who have MBP's. One of my main reasons for getting a laptop is for portability, so the 17" MBP is out of the question. Now Im debating on whether or not the 15" is too big also and just go with a top of the line MB. This will be my first Mac so Im kind of unfamiliar. Ive played with them at Apple stores and whatnot but Im still not sure. Is the 15" small enough to be highly portable?

That's right, Apple is going to release its next generation OS, but it will only run on 64 bit Macs produced in the latter half of this year and completely shun the vast majority of Apple's installed base. Oh, and iLife '07 will be 64 bit only as well.

You really had to ask that question?

Ive been into computers for the better part of 10 years now ... stranger things have happened in the computer world. Like gaming systems that arent backwards compatible. Besides, my question stemmed from Apple's website, there is no mention at all of backwards compatibility.

Well.. I don't have my 17" MBP yet but one of the reasons I got it was that it's the most portable 17" laptop I've seen. I have an HP 17" P4 laptop that my consulting firm provided me. It's 2 inches thick, weighs over 10 lbs, overheats, gets only about 45 min - 1 hour battery life, and the AC adapter is literally the size of a brick, 180 watts!

I'm a developer and consultant so I need a powerful laptop with good screen real estate. I have to say, that is my HP's only saving grace.

I've played with the MBP in the store and it is almost half the weight of the HP and is only 1" thick. It's the perfect travel companion for me.

I also have a 3 year old 15.4" Dell Inspirion 8500. It's definitely more portable than the HP.

I can't stand a screen smaller than 15" (scrolling back and forth in a code editor is a pain) so I passed on the MacBook. I guess it depends on what you need the laptop for.

They'll probably wait unril Macworld 2007 for merom in macbook

If they do, they will lose sales.

When the competition is dropping Merom is lower mid-range systems, Apple can't use an older, lesser CPU in their premium line and not expect it to impact sales.

Shipping Waits for Merom Dells

Didn't someone say the Merom laptops in PC's have 3 week waits for shipping or something frightful like that? If that's the case industry wide, it gives Apple a lot of time to play with doesn't it?

How long do folks typically wait for a product update like this to ship after it's announced? (Maybe factor in that the MBP could very well get a new case design now or when Santa Rosa arrives. The current design is what, 5 or 6 years old?)

BTW, I use Fruitmenu from Unsanity on my Macs. Not really sure what it's doing for me it's been on 'em so long. I think I have the little Safari graphic next to the Apple at the top left of the screen because of it. It also lets me identify items on the desktop and move them to any folder I specify with one click. I use that ALL the time.)

A quick peer at the Dell site showed me there was no difference in lead time on systems that offered C2D as an option regardless of whether C2D was selected or not.

The current design was announced in January and started shipping around March.

The first aluminum cased Powerbooks with a similar "style" of case appeared in 2003.

The TiBook appeared 5 years ago, which is what I assume you're getting at, but that is in no way the "current design". Superficially similar, sure.

I've been into computers since punched cards. Be that as it may, Apple wouldn't cut its own throat by dropping Leopard support for 32 bit Macs. Can you imagine how much revenue they would leave on the table if none of the 32 bit Macs could fork out the $129 for Leopard? Besides, if you had paid any attention at all to the Leopard preview a month ago, or read any of the resulting discussions in these forums, you'd know that Apple will be providing 32 bit and 64 bit versions of all the libraries, frameworks and other OS bits using the universal binary packaging mechanism.

I have a five year old 1 GIG 17" Powerbook G4 and it looks identical to the current 17" Macbook Pro, casewise.

Correction -

My Powerbook came out in 2003, so you were on the money. But, the Aluminum and Titanium designs were quite similar. It's time for a new case!

First of all, I don't really trust The Inquirer. Apple can't let the competition get too far ahead, as I remember hearing that the Macbooks are actually quite popular in the notebooks arena. So unless Apple want to lose some money here, I don't see them announcing Merom MB/MPBs after the holidays. I'm definitely hoping it'll be before.

Some ports etc. differ, and there's other minor differences. Sure, they're very similar in visual terms.

However, I wouldn't expect a major redesign now because Santa Rosa will likely require redesign work anyway and it's due early in the new year; that's when I'd expect the new case.

Of course, a brand new case with the Intel changeover might have made more sense, but I think keeping very similar cases to the last Gen PPC was a delibere marketting tactic on the part of Apple to try and ensure that people felt it was the "same" Apple, despite the new processor.

HA!

Those guys make me laugh!

Merom MBP next year??? As If! We're expecting Merom Macbooks this year, if not this week!

Yep, Merom Macbooks and Macbook Pros on Tuesday or maybe wednesday.
New iPods definitely on Tuesday. That's inevitable. And of course Movies at ITMS, and TV shows for international ITMS, like here in Oz.

Mini Mac Pro before the end of the year, for under AU$2G! ;)

Seiously though, Apple and Lenovo were supposed to get first Meroms, therefore we can surelly be expecting some neat hardware very soon. And remember MBP's supposed to get a redesign...

Yes, macbook pro is supposed to get a redesign, with santa rosa. ives and the design team have been working on something big, something that takes a lot of time. we'll see a case re-design w/ santa rosa. if we get something new this time, it'll be on the scale of titanium to al., and I liked the titanium design better anyhow :)

I REALLY hope we don't get a magnetic latch! I could not handle a huge dent in the case of my macbook pro thats less then an inch thin. It looks SO ugly.

I am sure Apple has a way to make it look good :)
