I almost wonder if the MBPs will be updated this upcoming Wednesday. I know that the silent iMac and Mac Mini upgrades were done then. That will allow the huge thing on Tuesday it's limelight and the MBP can take up a little corner box.

Wishful thinking...? :D

Sorry, I am going to pretty much dismiss the Inquirer. I refuse to believe Apple being unable to release until 2007.

Simply look at the list of Notebooks (as of now) equipped with Core 2 Duo chips: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3135&article=Core+2+Duo+Notebooks

I think the updated to the iMacs that happened on Wednesday, occurred because of the Labor Day holiday.

I orded a 17" MBP Last night and it's scheduled to ship Friday the 15th. I switched to the 100 GB 72,000 RPM drive and upgraded the RAM.

Hmmm the Apple Store is saying 24 hour ship time, which is of course for stock machines. In my experience BTO machines usually ship from Shanghi, China and take between 5-7 days to ship. So unless you get a secondary delay sometime between now and Monday night, Im going to go out on a limb here and say no Memrons, at least in the next two weeks or so.

I totally agree with people talking about Apple should be pushing hard to get the 64 bit procs out before they release Leopard (Early 07 release I have heard?) MB and MBP (forgot Minis) are now the only products not updated to a 64 bit processor. But since all other lines have been updated, its not entirely implausible to say theyre planning a simutaneous release of Leopard shipping on the NEW AND IMPROVED MB and MBP. I would hope this isn't going to be the case, but like I said it not implausible.

Speaking of Leopard, no where on Apple's website can I find support for 32 bit procs. So does this mean, unlike Vista, they wont be releasing both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of Leopard? Certainly this isnt the case. Anyone have further info on this?

That's a good point, I forgot about taking Labor Day into account. I know that Tuesday is a stretch, but I'm still hoping.

Either way, I think Apple knows about the urgency in adapting Merom to the laptop line.

Hmmm, the UK store has a 7 day ship on all Macbooks, yet the MBP is 24hrs. Any ideas? If it was the other way around, it would make more sense, as the MBP would get C2D first.

Possibly, Apple holding off on shipping units to resolve these random shutdowns?

Back to school rush. Supply issues with Macbooks.

Wow. Okay this is really REALLY annoying. It's ALWAYS next tuesday, next tuesday. I've waited 12 weeks for Merom MacBook Pros, and EVERY WEEK it's been "Hmm, it wasn't today, so next week" and so on and so forth. I'm going to need a mac soon becuase of a school project, but because i've been waiting so long I can't get one know seeing as how close it already is. This wait better be worth it, because it's getting insane now. I don't know what to do. I need a computer to edit like an hour of video, and my G4iMac with 5GB left on it WONT cut it. I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly the waiting most likely won't be worth it... Its only a slight increase in performance. I'm waiting because I dont need it till sept 25 so any increase is good for me. Sadly in your situation it might just be best to get a Yonah since you do need it now...

It's the old refrain: if you need it now buy it now. Just buy the best system you can when you need it.

Apple loves to keep us guessing about when their next product. Everyone I read said that new iMacs were going to be part of the announcement next week, but there they were on Wednesday. I'm not sure that they will be announced next Tuesday, as the focus of the event seems to be the new iMovie (?) store. I could see how you could tie the MPB (and maybe the MB) into the announcement if you are selling a product for the on the go person, something beyond the supposed new iPods.

Personally, as a grad student, I'm not waiting past the 16th. If Apple wants to give me an iPod I'm more than happy to oblige them. I would like to have merom for the extra ram it can handle, as I do graphics work as well, but if not then I will make do, and gladly.

afaik - the same release should Just Work on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines. (I'm pretty sure Universal binaries can contain both architectures)

Technically, anyone can always wait. What would you do if you didn't have $2,000 sitting in your bank account? But anyways, that's your call :p

Anyways, tuesday! I totally see them coming in a week. Because other companies seem to be beginning shipping on in-stock merom laptops, apple's super expensive top-of-the-line pro "big bragging rights" flagship laptops really need C2D.

Probably been mentioned on this site, but MBP merom on 26th... Photokina...

Remember: MBP 17" NAB?

This seems to me the most likely last-date-to-wait. If it goes beyond the 26th, and we still don't see the C2D MBP, then I will then start looking into the yonah MBP's.

They do need C2D from our perspective because we really want C2D MBP's. Apple may have something else in mind, like skipping this gen and waiting until Santa Rosa in order to focus on a new enclosure design or something to that effect. Who knows? The guessing game is fun, but also incredibly frustrating.

That's right, Apple is going to release its next generation OS, but it will only run on 64 bit Macs produced in the latter half of this year and completely shun the vast majority of Apple's installed base. Oh, and iLife '07 will be 64 bit only as well.

You really had to ask that question?

Leopard will run 32-bit and 64-bit natively. It will even be able to be installed on PowerPC computers. Apple would never come out with an OS that couldn't be ran on 3/4 of the computers they have sold. You do NOT need Merom to have Leopard on your computer.

here's how i see the tuesday keynote running.

basic recap of apple stores/visitors, etc.
how many ipods sold to date
recap of new iMac line.
update to MBP's and maybe MB's (about half of presentation)

one more thing...?
Movie Store and maybe (big maybe) new iPod

I'm sure that 7 day shipping on the Macbooks is a recent thing, I've been close to buying one for a while and I'm sure it was 24 hours up until a day or so ago.

I wonder whether the refurb products give any clues to whats coming. Are they really or refurbs? Or do Apple use it as a way of getting rid of excess stock without being seen to be discounting it?

well the imacs all went upto 3-5 days about a week before they got upgraded. So, thats all I'm trying to point out. BUT, what I dont understand is how the MBP's dont seem to have an effect, but I think thats been answered for me..

ie. Back to school rush and so on.

Either way, I cant wait till Tuesday just to see what happens!

I want MBP Merom so bad, but in all honesty I cant see Merom MBP's out next tuesday. Apple has brought out a few products behind the rest of the game, but still kicked their butt. I have a feeling Apple doesn't mind waiting a week or two after everyone else releases. The only reason I could see them waiting off so that Next week can be only on the Movie Tunes thing, but that makes me sad...

Haha, you sound REALLY pumped to get your merom macbook pro. As far as mods go, I like to keep the icons totally stock, I really do not like to change things AT ALL, I'm a very big apple purist. So pretty much I change my background once a week, but other then that, my macbook pro is 100% pure. If you got any cool software ideas however, let me know :)

Yeah i'm pumped!

The program i'm most excited about is this software that you say to you mac and it will open programs or control certain things. I was reading on here how someone had his MBP programmed so he would say "Hello Mac" and it would say "Hello [his name her]. How are you today"

I'm gonna change my Mac out like crazy. Clear doc. Candy bar. All kinds of things... ok... I should stop or i'm gonna geek out...

What programs that dude? it sounds awesome!!:p
