Good for you, wait until 2009 if you'd like, you clearly don't need a laptop.

Thats right i dont really need one!

But it would be nice to have portable power. I have powerbook G4 when i go out & Powermac at home when i need power

But i want all in one computer, but faster than what i have.

A quick peer at the Dell site showed me there was no difference in lead time on systems that offered C2D as an option regardless of whether C2D was selected or not.

When you customize an Inspiron, adding C2D will delay the order 9 days for 2.16GHz and 4 days for 2.0 and 1.66 GHz. This is past an expected ship date of the 25th.

On the XPS line they are expecting a ship date of the 22nd with C2D.

The 22nd is a long time from now. If Apple introduced Merom MBP on the 12th, shipping in a week, they would still beat what you can get from Dell right now.

When I start seeing C2D in stores and not in MBP, I would then start to get nervous.

There's a Sony C2D laptop in my local Circuit City.

After my bi-weekly visit to the Apple store in Charlotte to see my future 17" MBP on Saturday I ended up talking to an Apple Store employee for awhile. He was telling me that before the announcement of the new iMacs their in-store stock really slowed down. This is not the case for the MBPs which apparently "are still shipping strong" which led him to believe no updates this week. Either way he told me to wait for Tuesday, and that its prob JUST the iTunes movie store they're announcing...

:(

I talked to a couple folks this weekend too, but my results were much more muddled. They all basically said, "don't know when they're coming." When I suggested might I check back again soon, they said, "yes, definitely." At some point in the discussion the employee mentioned that they would be using their employee discount "next month". I don't know what it means, but heck, this is rumors. So here is another one.

Where do you get the information regarding the channel? Just curious.

honestly im beginning to wonder when the mbp will be released, everyone keeps saying next tuesday, next tuesday, but tuesday keeps comming and going w/ no new mbp! tomorrow doesnt look to promising for the mbp seeing as how tomorrow seems to be the movie store and possibly ipods. although, i would update the ipods after the promotion ends.

Do not expect updated C2D MBP's tomorrow. I would be very surprised if Apple introduced them on the day they're trying to promote their new movie store. Most likely, the 26th makes more sense--Photokina.

Well the "Ships In" lead time on Apple's website is still saying 24 hours, so Im going out on a lone limb here and saying no Memron MBPs tomorrow. :(

Guess I'll be ordering a maxed out Refurb Yonah instead.

I would like to know what sources they cited in the first place, and what sources they trusted more to make them refute their original story. They could have just asked us. We all knew it was bunk anyway. Just read this thread and they'll know. ;)

Have you seen the metadata for the pic? No mention of what type of camera, just Photoshop. Fake. Plus it looks like crap.

I've heard this postulate over and over, and the arguments are very strong as well. But I just can't wrap my head around two things. iMac's will have had C2D's 20 days earlier. Every other computer manufacturer in the world will have been shipping their lines with C2D's for at least a week or two.

The reasons why it won't happen tomorrow? we claim that the theme of this press conference is the movie store/i Tunes/i Pods. This is all well and good; I agree that basing our guess on themes would make Photokina far more apt than tomorrow. And secondly, that the Apple stores are still chalk full of MBP's. mmm, ok, whatever.

In my mind it's like this

If it happens this week it will be tomorrow. 40% chance
Next week -- silent update on tues/wed. 30% chance
Photokina. 30% chance

if I ran apple and was ready to upgrade the MBP, I wouldn't release it via silent update when I have two opportunities for large press conferences. I also wouldn't upgrade it weeks after other companies have (sitting here writing this I've witnessed two Dell commercials advertising the C2D).

here's to MBP's tomorrow!

A computer shop where I live is an authorized Apple service/sales shop, they can look and see what is available for shipping and if they are still accepting bulk orders. What I mean is they dont see any slow down or wait/lead times with them, so in turn, meaning no slow down in the channel.

But not necessarily shipping.

I wouldn't even begin to put a percentage on what we may or may not expect for MBP's in the near or distant future. I do hope we get C2D MBP's tomorrow, and I would jump for joy being wrong on that count. Will we see them? Maybe, but I doubt it.

IMacs should have been a bigger "press conference" draw, yet they were simply announced through press release. MBP's aren't quite as recognized, and I just don't see them getting any space in an event about a new movie store.

I disagree. I mean the very basis of Apple is "Think Different" and yet we continue to compare them to every other tom, dick and harry PC company out there. Apple has an Intel processor in it, it doesn't make it a Dell/Lenovo/HP knockoff. Its like saying my toaster is the same as my oven just because they both happen to have heating elements in them. Macs are high end machines that run a high end OS ... regardless of them having Yonah in them or a Memron. My 1Ghz G4 still runs rings around most PCs in terms of functionality and ease of use. I learned long ago that the only thing having the "latest and greatest" gets you is poor and bragging right ... for about 3 months at the most. All you having to have the "latest and greatest" gets Apple and any other company, is rich.

The only reason Im waiting for the Memron annoucement is Im hoping thatll knock the Refurb prices down a little bit more.

As for tomorrow ... I kinda see maybe a price drop on the Yonahs to help move more stock in preperation for the Memron release. But I dont forsee the m releasing the Memrons.
