Well I am an engineer and first of I will Guarntee you that they are not being delayed because of "engineering challenges". They have teams of engineers working on those case layouts for a loooong time before your eyes will ever see them, Ill tell you that. I dont know whats their problem anymore...this conference mad me mad. This was going to be my first Mac but Apple is letting me down big time right now. I will continue my wait only because I dont need a new computer at this very instant...but I am not happy.

Ditto, my first as well.... I'm not really mad, just frustrated at the delay.

Putting in a new chip that fits and doesnt generate more heat doesnt seem to be that formidable an engineering challenge to me.. Well, I wouldn't know, I'm no engineer, but I do know that other manufacturers have managed to do it, and I know (Or heard from many sources), that Apple has had these chips for some time now. It's not like they got them when Intel officially launched them..

Of course we can adopt the usual fanboi mindset and try to goad ourselves into believing that the delays are due to something BETTER... Perhaps they made some revolutionary changes that are going to WoW us all off our socks (and as a added bonus the undies off the ladies too!) this coming Photokina. Some pundits will even point to the underwhelming iPod updates and cite that as the result of such a move, "They've pulled engineers off the iPod design teams to work on the MBP!"

What will we ultimately get? When will we get it? Hmm.. good questions

You're far from alone, based on the forum discussion.

I figure the end of the month now... we'll see I guess.

It will? WOW!

I'll buy two! (better not tell my other half tho' ...)

Does the faster model remove more clothing, have a great effect radius, or...? It's important to know these things when making a purchasing decision.

As more and more time goes on I would answer: "Less than wanted and later than needed". A pleasant surprise on Wednesday would be :) - probably two more weeks though - and then................???

I'm thinking tomorrow

Wednesday is the new Tuesday.

I think they'll be updated on the web site tonight, and in the stores in the morning. I didn't think they'd be released today, but I do feel if they're not released tomorrow, I'll stop watching. I'll still wait, but by then, I'd say it doesn't seem like a wise move from Apple.

Here's to tomorrow morning.

I think the main reason we saw the iMacs updated on Wednesday last week was because of the Labor Day holiday. Everyone was off Monday, so the updates got pushed to Wednesday.

Important Update!!!

I have mentioned this before, not sure if many have read, but my friend who works at an apple store, whom will remain nameless, informed me last week that he will be working late thursday this week, from 9pm to 4am, to move apple computers for new products! Other than that, there is no information on specific products, but it might just be the macbook pro's we've all been waiting for! What do you guys think? If not this week, which I hope it is, I Hope and Pray it's by the 26th!

hey there, why don't u ask yr friend about mbp, see if they're updating mbp merom any sooner so that we don't need to scratch our head for new rumors...

maybe a redesign?!

Does anyone think that maybe the reason Apple hasn't actually said anything about the Macbook Pro is because they are busy doing the redesign. I recall hear that there was a problem with getting everything to fit and function, as well as the heat problem in the current Yonah MPBs....think that maybe they have something up their sleeves as the reason for the delay more then the lack of new chips? I just know that Apple likes to upgrade the designs on their computers when they change to new things. For example the G3 to G4 changes in design. Think we'll see a G4 to Intel soon now that all of the computers have them?

Just thought I'd throw that out there. This is my first post btw, I've been reading for awhile now. :D

My friend has asked and no one knows anything about macbook status. He did say there was low inventory on macbooks last week, but that could have been due to education purchases. so who knows...

hey guys,

i've been anxiously waiting to buy the new core 2 duo macbook pro, and i've been waiting for a couple weeks now, and i was really hoping that it would be coming out today...but i guess it makes sense it didn't because it was basically an ipod event. but it's really taking long now...when do you guys think it'll come out?

i looked at dell, alienware and another company with core 2's, and the shipping date for them are for the most part around the 20th of september. maybe apple will release them next week? i don't know if i can wait any longer...lol lemme know your thoughts.

My money is on the 26th, I doubt they will be released next Tuesday. Here me Apple, if you don't come out with them by then, you lost at least 1 customer.

Welcome on your first post! What you have outlined is what we are hoping for: Merom, better engineered cooling system, fast swap hard drive bay, magnetic closure, better keyboard design, etc. Apple has had plenty of $$$ and engineers to get this done by now. IMO, lack of Merom chips is NOT the cause of this delayed Rev B introduction. So, I basically agree with your post - welcome again.

Cheers!!

I agree with you man. I've been waiting a long time for this...and virtually all the other companies have released their core 2's. We need ours! lol The new ipod's today were not too big, in my book...not even a touch screen ipod...I was surpised they called a special event just for this

Oh well...

I'm a former Mac user (owned 3 Macs from late 80s to around 1995) and someone who (like a lot of other ppl, I guess) has learned to put up with PCs/Windows since then. I've had several company laptops over the years and deciced finally to get my own machine (partly bcs I'm frustrated with my IT department who refuse to get me a new one). I almost bought a MBP in early August, but decided to hold off after reading all the Merom rumors. I know I know, compared to some of you my wait time has been quite short, but stll... I'm begining to lose hope that we'll see an updated MBP before the end of the year. Chances are, if updated MBPs are not released by the end of the month, I will get a Windows laptop. Hey, they may not be as pretty as a MBP, but they get the job done. This will be sad, so sad -- I really wanted to get a Mac again after all these years :(

Well i am buying my mbp on the 16 so i can get a free nano and i am not going to open for 14 days so that way if the mbp comes out by then i can return it and get the new one without paying the 10% stocking fee.

Will I ever be as cool as you?

One word for you to hope for: Photokina

the MBPs WILL be updated this year. Not to do so would be beyond stupid for Apple. Steve is NOT stupid.

I hope you're right about Photokina. But "this year" is not good enough for me. I can't stand this company craptop I have and the prospect of going another 3 months without a new machine is simply unbearable. If nothing happens by the end of the month, I'm starting to research the Dells, the HPs et al., and pulling the trigger by the end of the first week of October.

I don't blame anyone for impatience or need. Get what you want/need and be happy with it. If you can wait to the 25th/26th during Photokina, that would be the last possible date(s) I would think C2D MBP's would be available. I will say with 80% certainty that we'll see something by then (why 80%? because 20% of me expected them at the keynote today, so it makes sense in a weird way. :) )

I'm done waiting. My powerbook is failing and I use a computer for notetaking in my classes and recording lectures. I'm not waiting any longer for a 10% increase in speed.
