i am so close to just ordering a MBP and saying SCREW it...but than again, i CAN wait i just have no patience and as soon as i do booom...the C2D will be out...

Don't worry, my luck and patience are worse than yours. I ordered my MBP on the 8th, shipping on the 15th and arriving on the 20th. So, the C2D MBPs will come out probably the 21st. ;-)

Wednesday is the new Tuesday.

I think they'll be updated on the web site tonight, and in the stores in the morning. I didn't think they'd be released today, but I do feel if they're not released tomorrow, I'll stop watching. I'll still wait, but by then, I'd say it doesn't seem like a wise move from Apple.

Here's to tomorrow morning.

No updates of Core 2 Duos till 26th I say.

Well i am buying my mbp on the 16 so i can get a free nano and i am not going to open for 14 days so that way if the mbp comes out by then i can return it and get the new one without paying the 10% stocking fee.

I wonder if that will work. The iMacs with the c2ds are not acceptable purchases for the iPod deal, while the old core duo iMacs are.

I'm debating between a MBP and a desktop since I'm not paying for a change. But at some point I'm going to have to pull the trigger, so if they don't introduce a c2d MPB, the decision becomes a wee bit easier.

I'm done waiting. My powerbook is failing and I use a computer for notetaking in my classes and recording lectures. I'm not waiting any longer for a 10% increase in speed.

And that is why everyone needs to get Applecare extended warranties

If you all wanna sit and wait for the next best thing to come out instead of getting what fits your precious desires right now then continue sitting
Meanwhile I'll continue getting all kinds of work done on my "ancient" "slow" iBook G4 1.33 :p

Why don't you just not order it until those 14 days are over 'cos if you're not going to use it anyway is there any point in ordering it? like at the moment im thinkin ill give them till monday todo somthing about it then ill just order the yonah otherwise i wont get it intime for uni and i could say i wont open it but i just wont be able to... you're a better man than i am if you cant open the box to see your shiny new MBP:D

My powerbook is being replaced by my insurance company & they supply new for old replacements. This morning I spoke to the company they appointed to deal with my claim & they offered me a 2.0ghz Macbook Pro they had in stock. I asked if I could upgrade to a 17" Macbook Pro, they said ok but had no stock & would check with their supplier for delivery time, the supplier said they had none in stock & were expecting updated Macbooks on Thursday :)

I struggle to understand why people take these hints so seriously. Even apple store employees don't know when a release is coming until 1hr before so why would a 3rd party know anymore?

I wonder what's the heat problem like with the meroms in the MBP. Maybe they've done some redesign for better cooling.

We'll see...

Yes, the merom runs hotter - for obvious reasons. Using it as a drop-in replacement for the current MBPs doesn't exactly sound like a good idea...

no more room for MBP?

I was just looking at the Apple start page... sure doesn't seem to be much picture room left for a MBP update anytime soon, since all of that content is no older than a week.

This is my first post! I just wanted to say, I've only been reading here and waiting for Merom MBP for a little over a month, and already I'm cracked out/not sleeping well/etc... I can only imagine the rest of you who have been doing this for multiple months (years? )...

My Mac history:
IIe, LC, iMac G3, Powerbook G3, Powerbook G4 (I was raised on this stuff!)

Well, I would say yesterday's event was almost a let down. The iPods hold more songs and we can watch a couple of Disney movies. The new TV device is pretty cool, and yesterday would have been worth it if it was released, but that seemed like an awful big hype for those announcements. Maybe it just seemed bigger than it was because we mad a big deal of it here on this board. If the updated MBP is released at Photokina, it had better be a big update. If not, it will look ridiculous because they waited well past other’s ship dates to announce a new processor. Look at the iMac, it got a 24in screen with a C2D and all they did was a press release and a store update. If they are going to make a big deal out of the MBP update, I would think that it would be more than just a chip. If released before Photokina, it will most likely just be a chip update. I really hope it is worth the wait. I don’t need a laptop soon. I don’t really need one at all, but I want the portability for school. So really the only thing it is hurting is my patience. It’s like waiting for Christmas morning. We know it is soon, but not sure exactly when.

I can see them definitely getting rid of the "Watch the Webcast" button on the front page. Also keep in mind that the new iMacs had been up on the front page for less than a week before they came down. I'm pretty sure they'll make room on one of the little buttons along the bottom of the start page to advertise new MBP's.

Most likely, they won't make a big deal of out the MBP update. It'll be another press release/silent upgrade like the iMac, Mac Mini, and countless other upgraded products in the past.

Supposedly there's an apple event on the 25th at the start of Photokina. Whatever they announce, it probably won't be upgraded MBP's, but I can certainly see apple releasing them on the 26th, the Tuesday of Photokina (if not before then.)

My money is on the 26th, I doubt they will be released next Tuesday. Here me Apple, if you don't come out with them by then, you lost at least 1 customer.

I agree...but the thing is that before yesterday everyone's money was on that event, and when this one passes everyones money will be on the end of the year etc etc....Im done speculating and will just sit here at my craptop waiting....and waiting...and waiting...

I have also wondered if this would work...maybe Ill call the store this afternoon and get an answer. Is the 14 day policy only if you open it? or is that 14 days to return once you buy it period?

I agree. I don't see Apple making a big deal. I was saying that if the did wait until Photokina, it better be a big upgrade or they will look stupid. I am kinda hoping for both. If before Photokina, I get my MBP earlier. If at Photokina, probally big changes to MBP.

At idle, it's the same.

At peak under most workloads it appears to be the same, with one site reporting about 7% under, most reporting around the same or close enough (withing 2-3% will be within the margin-of-error).

Only Intel's TDP figures show any significant increase, going from 31W to 34W, which is still (just) under 10%.

It seems unlikely that would be any cause for alarm, since it doesn't appear to be a situation that occurs often, and the processor will throttle itself if such a rare situation occurs.

The only real issue I could see would be down to operation in high ambient temperatures, but even then, that would likely be just as much an issue with Yonah on the current MBP.

When it comes down to it, we're all basically blowing off steam here.

None of us knows what Apple is going to do. We can all strategize, hypothesize, etc. etc., but the current situation is this:

1. All of us on this thread are interested in getting an updated MBP from Apple.

2. None of us knows when Apple is going to actually release the updated MBP.

3. Based upon historical improvements in price/performance, it is virtually inevitable that Apple will release an updated MBP in the NEAR future.

4. We all just might as well take a deep breath, do some yoga, maybe have a coffee, and just relax. It WILL happen. But wishing it will not make it so.

Do you take cream & sugar?:)

I think 99% of the people on this board realize this. But that's why it's a rumors forum. We come to "stategize, hypothesize, etc. etc."
