Can someone post a picture of where the messages app store is supposed to be? I am not seeing it anywhere with the GM release.

This is where the store is.

What a terrible gimmick this is... How many man hours were spent developing this cr*p? I guess anything for a buck, eh Apple?
Many orders of magnitude less than were put into the new cameras, the new CPU, the new GPU, the new home button, the new taptic engine... All those were, technically "anything for a buck", too (i.e. Apple got the impression that a lot of their customers wanted them). If you don't like it, don't use it - there's no requirement that you use it, Clippy isn't going to be popping up saying "you must choose a type of glitter to attach to this message". I can't imagine that I'll use it much (beyond playing around with friends the first couple days), but I'm not angry that it's there.

But yet you can't use it in a web browser on a machine that isn't yours (work let's say) like Messenger (Facebook) can. Wish Apple would add this but seeing as how slow they are usually with software, it'll take forever to be added.
Much harder to prove who the web browser "is", and harder to protect it again eavesdropping, compared to a phone.

I have a question for someone who knows, if I download a sticker pack, will the other person see it if I send it but they don't have the same sticker pack? I'm assuming and hoping that they would.

Yes, the other person will see the stickers that you send.

I know I'm not speaking for everyone, but who on earth actually uses iMessage anymore? I've used it a lot in the beginning, but these days everyone uses other messaging solutions such as WhatsApp or Telegram. I think this 'stickers' thing (including its own App Store) is a bit overreactive for something that - at least that's what I think - is not being widely used... :p

Um, I don't know anyone that uses those other two services. The only service that I think is in close competition with iMessage is Facebook Messenger, which is why Apple added the stickers and such to compete with them. Then again, Facebook bought WhatsApp for 21 billion dollars, so maybe more people use it than I though. Just not anyone in my social circle.

EVERYONE in the US lol. Most people have never heard of whatsapp and i've never even heard of telegram

I still wish I can just turn all this nonsense off, especially when I am on the receiving end of any of these effects. Most of the pending updates on my phone include stickers or iMessage extensions. I wonder how much space this is going to cost me.

I'm gonna guess not much. Most of this stuff is just a couple KB at most. I don't know about iMessage extensions, but stickers don't take much space all.

Hit the magnifying glass, then type "Mario".
I just got them!

Can't find the IMDB app though...

I just updated the IMDB main app and the stickers showed up automatically. On the "Manage" tab of the iMessage App store, make sure you have "Automatically Add Apps" checked and whatever iOS apps you install should automatically install the iMessage parts with it.

This completely failed for BlackBerry 10 but no direct comparison except that the majority of users will be youth willing to spend their parents dollars to purchase "stickers".
I'm guessing that a lot of "stickers" will be free for purposes of generating buzz: a week or two before your new animated movie comes out, release a free sticker pack and watch a bunch of your potential customers enjoy advertising your movie to each other, and it only cost your marketing department a little time to cut and paste graphics and get legal's stamp of approval. Meanwhile, folks get funny images of Buzz Lightyear, or Spiderman, or whatever, to send to each other.

I doubt this will ever happen given the security of iMessage.

Currently the end point for all iMessage messages is a personal device where it is decrypted, read, and stored. If there were a web application for this all of a sudden Apple would be responsible for the security and storage of people's messages. I don't think they'd ever want to get into that.

Well, google can manage it with gmail and google hangouts. I'm sure apple could as well. Except it would probably only work in safari because of their insistance of the walled garden.

Almost everyone I know uses iMessage, myself included.

You I reckon that building hardware is done by a different team than the one managing iMessage development. My mother uses stickers in Facebook messenger but I don't. I am more likely to use some of the native effects with iMessage.

I have zero interest in third party messaging services. I have three services already - the stock sms/mms on my phone, iMessage and Facebook Messenger. I am not sure what value a third party service brings.

I wonder if they will be sticker packs that can give me changes to team formation that the assistant coach can send me during a game whilst I am on the field with the team.

My son and I will probably play iMessages chess. It'll be like the old chess-by-mail games, but a lot faster.
Don't let me stop you from playing chess through Messages, but be aware that there are a bunch of really good chess apps for iOS, including ones that are free, where you can play against the computer, or random opponents, or specific other people (like your son). Two good starting places would be Stockfish and the Chess.com app (both free).

Yes, I'm sure it's the walled garden that's the problem, and not that Apple is more concerned about your privacy than Google is.

So that's just my own experience then. And I think it may depend a bit on the country as well. WhatsApp is by far the most popular messaging service in the Netherlands, I learned about a few months ago. That might make a big difference. :p

Agreed. Being Dutch is an issue. ;) Although to be honest I always look forward to the RNLAF F-16 Demo at RIOT each year. Your sled drivers are among the best. :apple:

More dependent on your circle of friends and colleagues . From my experience whatsapp is the most popular .

Geographical is the other one , especially when it comes to roaming .

If your family and friends all use iPhones, iMessage makes sense.

Gmail and Hangouts are not end-to-end encrypted. iMessage is. The private key has to be stored somewhere. iMessage generates it on the device and only ever sends the public key to Apple, so that other users can download that key and send encrypted messages to you by encrypting them with it. The private key never leaves the device and Apple never sees it. If iMessage would be provided via a web interface, then either Apple stores the private key for you or you would have to provide another keyphrase whenever you log in. It is not possible to do this in any other way.

Hmm...last time I checked I can access iCloud.com using any browser I want.

It appears to me to be a North Americian thing, for the rest of the world where Android is so popular WhatsApp and Telgram are far more useful
