I’m getting a feeling meta is nervous about what Apple will be announcing next week. You can just feel the tension.

Actually the Meta Gaming Showcase is in half an hour so they're announcing the new headset now so they can reveal the new games for it.

Plus Quest 3 was already announced last year at Meta Connect to be coming this Fall. This is just the official reveal of the headset now.

Not the first time we have seen desperation in advance to an Apple major product announcement.
You mean the third version of this product (after several others with different names) is desperation? They are just doing their thing since long before Apple was even rumoured to release something in this sector. Apple is the only one who has to prove something, Oculus/Meta already proved they can release a good product at a reasonable price point. Can Apple do the same?

Looks cool however very bad timing on Meta's part. Desperate for attention!

I completely disagree with this assessment. Like the rest of us, Meta has known about the Apple product for a long time. They absolutely and correctly chose the perfect time to announce their new product. It distracts from Apple's upcoming announcement, especially given the anticipatory negatives about the Apple product, especially the price. So, a lower priced new product give Apple customers an alternative.

Meta isn't desperate for attention. They strategically planned to announce Quest 3 at this time. Meta is smiling!

My parents wear glasses and tried out their grandkids' Quest 2 awhile back. It works just fine. There's also a spacer if needed.
And you can even buy lenses to insert in the visor so you don’t even need to wear glasses at all.

I can tell you're wetting your pants in anticipation of getting your hands on these useless devices, no matter what the price. You've been trained to buy hype, not substance. And no, costs no longer "come down". Soon we'll barely be able to afford necessities. The only things you can count on now are death, taxes, and inflation. The rest is chaos.

What's wrong with glasses? Glasses rock

I was with you until the last picture.

but i'm pretty sure it won't get the gaming support the quest does, so he is probably right.
Maybe? Probably? I just get tired of speaking in absolutes in a pompous manner, when the product in question (actually, neither one of them) has been released to market, and one's not even official yet.

Facebook, everyone hates you.
🤣 And yet 25% of the world's population uses Facebook on a daily basis and almost 40% of world's population uses Facebook on a monthly basis.

  • Facebook daily active users (DAUs) – DAUs were 2.04 billion on average for March 2023, an increase of 4% year-over-year.
  • Facebook monthly active users (MAUs) – MAUs were 2.99 billion as of March 31, 2023, an increase of 2% year-over-year.

Maybe this announcement appears rushed to you because you didn't know that Meta had revealed in their third quarter 2022 earnings report (and during the conference call) 7 months ago that they had already planned to release the Quest 3 in the second half of 2023.

"We expect the slight majority of our 2023 expense dollar growth to be driven by operating expenses, with the remaining growth coming from cost of revenue. We expect the percentage growth rate of 2023 operating expenses to decelerate meaningfully as we curtail non-headcount related expense growth and keep 2023 headcount roughly flat with current levels. Conversely, our growth in cost of revenue is expected to accelerate, driven by infrastructure-related expenses and, to a lesser extent, Reality Labs hardware costs driven by the launch of our next generation of our consumer Quest headset later next year."

Desperation? 🤣

It's common practice for companies to announce a product a month or so before it officially goes on sale. That's what Meta is doing here. Meta already said 7 months ago during the 3rd quarter 2022 earnings report that the Quest 3 was coming in latter part of 2023.
This is not the second half of 2023 and If they had already alluded to it then what was the need to remind us NOW when it’s still not available? They’ve essentially said ‘we told you it’s coming, it’s not here yet but we just want to tell you again it’s coming’. There was no reason to release this other than to capatilize on interest generated from Apple’s launch.

I'm pretty sure Meta Quest and Apple's Headset are two very different products with two equally different use cases and demographics in mind.

I find it quite amazing how everyone has just skimmed past Apple verbatim writing "a new era begins" as a tagline for WWDC.

Another VR/AR headset that's just running some sleek Apple-esque UI, with a nice, shiny metal finish on the hardware side is not the beginning of a new era for Apple and not something anyone except wealthy tech collectors would pay $3000 for.

This is going to be far more than that.

This a completely new product category and Apple's biggest bet in more than a decade.

Please forget this Meta-junk and get hyped for what might be the most import new consumer electronics product in the next 5-10 years.
Apple saying something is revolutionary doesn’t mean it actually is. I don’t think there is much reason to get excited. All we know indicates just that Apple will enter the arena much late in the game, with a product that will be a lot more expensive. We can expect some marginal technical advantages (some stupidly bright displays were rumoured a few days ago), some questionable choices (wearable battery) and a lot of software bugs. It will be a hard pass for most people, and definitely not something that will change the world.

If Apple announces one in a few days, that is all anyone will discuss. You never want to go first before an Apple announcement.

Apple has a Trojan horse, I think this headset is gonna be significantly cheaper than 3000 dollars.
I agree someone made that rumor, and everyone ran with it. If it does somehow cost that much, I suspect it will be more driven toward developers and professionals like doctors.

It'd be cool if it were; even if it were twice the price of the Quest I'd be interested. I mean, it's no secret why the Quest is cheap, since it requires an FB account, and therefore they get all that data.

$300 vs $3000 !
The Apple headset should better be something outstanding, out of this world... otherwise it will be as popular as a Newton.
The truth will be unveiled on Tuesday... can't wait!

I'd only be amazed if you can really emerge in an experience that makes you feel like you are actually in Hawaii (as an example). Everything I have seen so far looks like a slightly improved version of Nintendo Wii Avatars
