This seems so cringe.

It’s not that much different to the 2nd gen model. They’ve not moved the operating system forward and it still looks like a heavy but cheap plastic headset. It’s a hard pass for me.

The headset's main benefit is mixed reality passthrough, as it features color passthrough just like Quest Pro. Outside of that we don't really know what software benefits there is to using this over a Quest 2.

Otherwise...yeah there's not much reason to get this over a Quest 2. I'm a big VR guy and I ain't getting this since I already got a Quest 2, and I primarily use it just for PCVR.

I think Meta should do a buyback program to allow users to trade in their Quest 2s to upgrade to Quest 3, otherwise I don't see this headset selling many units at it's $500 price tag when the much cheaper Quest 2 is still around.

Honestly Quest 3 is just making me even more excited to see the Apple Reality in action, to see Apple show Meta how it's done.

The bot accounts are real. Nearly everyone I know has abandoned FB. I realize that is only a couple hundred users but it is still telling. I left 3 years ago and I've never regretted it for a second. But to each their own.
I left as well. Medical misinformation, political misinformation, bullying, harassment, and homophobia are alive and well, but if you tell someone their comment was "stupid" - boom! 30 day ban for you.

I just don't get the appeal I guess. I remember some classmates used to make their own foam swords and battle in a huge get together in the park with this big community all dressed as samurai or whatever. This is similar but from your bedroom with no one and probably neck pain later on? I miss when people used to be social, didn't think that would go away but we seem to edge closer to The Matrix battery parks every year.

Agreed. It is really sad how anti-social we've become since the advent of social media. I prefer reality. I guess some people don't, and that is truly sad, but I believe I always will.

$300 vs $3000 !
The Apple headset should better be something outstanding, out of this world... otherwise it will be as popular as a Newton.
The truth will be unveiled on Tuesday... can't wait!
According to Apple's advertising it will be. Reality might be something different if history is any guide.

I was just thinking about this recently. Will Apple really ban apps like Virtual Desktop?

Apple really has the ability to make the best PC VR headset on day 1. Really hope they don’t blow it.
I've been an Apple user for a long time and worked for them for a while too. Unless something has changed drastically in recent years, I'd put the chances for the ability to play non-Apple app store VR games on this headset at like... 5%. Which is probably overly gracious. I've only ever used Quest link though, so I'm not sure what it's like using Virtual Desktop apps for games. Are you able to enter a VR environment by way of Virtual Desktop?

If the pricing rumors are true then I'm certainly priced out of it at the moment, but it could be something I'd save up for if the ability to connect to Steam is there and the hardware is good enough. I suspect that they'd see the potential offerings on their own app store as compelling enough and feel that they don't need the PCVR market for their headset to thrive.

Bodes poorly for being able to shoot bad guys in video games.

Already spoke with my bank about a second mortgage to buy all the products Apple gonna release next week. For iPhone 15 Ultra, I will sell my second kidney if wife wouldn’t allow me to sell hers. 😂

I don't know why some get bothered by and external battery pack on the Apple VR? I think it's a good move.
1. Makes the headset lighter
2. headset will run cooler
3. No battery explosion in your face
4. Can swap out the battery pack

I was actually frustrated Meta didn't do this with their headsets. Yes its more elegant to have everything in the headset but just not practical with current technology.

… says the person glued to their device commenting on macrumors 😂

Seriously, folks, do as I say not as I do!
I begrudgingly have to agree with you.

I've started with online forums in 2000. 4 years prior it was IRC and mailing lists.

If I could have a redo I'd want the genetics to only visit forums upon needing to ask question rather than answer them.

So say at most 1hr/week?

Online interaction is addictive as hyper focus subjects could be talked about by hyper focused interested persons.

Being physically and mentally present with the people around you is much more important.

Apple better have something that blows this crap away, cause I’m not remotely interested.
I mean if the price rumor is to be believed and Apple's iteration costs $2,500 more, then it better blow it out of the ***** water.

Apple has a Trojan horse, I think this headset is gonna be significantly cheaper than 3000 dollars.
This is what I'm thinking... Remember when rumors were floating around that the Apple Watch Ultra was going to be around $999 then folks were pleasantly surprised at the actual price. I think they are going for the same effect here.

I think it was a bad strategy to pre-announce this now. Since neither product will be available until (presumably) the fall, what was the point? And why did Meta decide to drop the price of the current version now not long after raising it, and before the new version is even available? They talk like VR/AR is a long term opportunity for them, but their actions speak otherwise.
