Given the way Elon's driving it into the ground (with artificial limits and the like for free/unverified users) - Twitter basically deserves to burn at this point

Making a big deal out of inconsequential changes is what biased people do.

Gods forbid the man want to actually run twitter like a business, one. And two, those limits prevent bot from freely scraping data and used in AI/LLMs that will jus fuel more bots... People forget there are two sides to any coin. Don't have to agree with everything he says to acknowledge the good things.

It's already terrible. Flooded with scam, spam, thirst traps, and links to OnlyFans. So, basically just like Twitter (and Instagram)

Imagine saying “I’ll start a thread about that” instead of “I’m going to tweet that”, just saying.

Do you realize how silly “tweet” sounded like before it became mainstream? And it wasn’t that long ago.

Seeing the Threads pick up on day one, the ease of use, overall satisfaction users are expressing, the big accounts that made Twitter the success it was already on Threads, with many of them winding down their Twitter accounts, Elon should be very worried that Zuck is currently incinerating 44 billion of his dollars.

Al Jazeera just reported that Threads just needs 10% of Instagram users to use it in order for it to be bigger than Twitter, in terms of user base anyway. Twitter is still where all the grown up celebrities go so Threads will probably never have that kind of cachet.

That’s why Threads will grow very quickly.

I was quite surprised to see that most of the organisations that I used to follow on Twitter were already posting on Threads only a couple of hours after it launched. I only ever used Twitter to follow credible news sources and organisations that I was interested in, not for social media purposes.

I’m not a fan of Meta or Twitter, but barring any major mistakes, Threads will probably become significantly larger than Twitter very quickly.

Meta not launching this in the EU because they are not allowed to use your data as freely as in the rest of the world should tell you all you need to know about the purpose of this app. It’ll never be a success without being in the EU either. They’re cutting off 477 million people just because they can’t suck in all their data. What more do you need to know?

They are planning to launch in the EU, but they’re not ready yet. The Threads launch seems to have been brought forward to take advantage of the chaos at Twitter, and given the complexity of EU requirements (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), I suspect it will take them quite a while before they can launch there, but they will eventually.

As opposed to the unchecked proliferation of child castration a mutilation propaganda that was going on before he took over?

You forgot the "What about" part at the beginning of that.

Regardless, I was able to go on Twitter prior to the 5D Chess-playing Boy Genius and not see any of that, but every time I go on nowadays, it's loaded with right-wing, racist garbage and white supremacist noise everywhere. I've tried blocking and it doesn't seem that the algorithm does the job anymore. I get loads and loads of it. He's allowed Twitter to become the intellectual equivalent of a sewer. Quite the achievement.

Yeah how could a guy that sued a companies founders to get himself listed as a founder when he wasn't, then built up that company that's had years of losses by taking millions in tax breaks and grants while jacking up stock prices, then complains about other companies that get government funding are untrust worthy due to their govt connections, repeatedly does the opposite of what he says, threatens people that openly state opposite opinions of his own and give his products bad reviews, and refuses to pay the bills to vendors/landlords of a company he just bought ever be corrupt....

I think this must be what they mean by “bringing the receipts.”

Same. I thought that was the only value in Twitter and diluting the verified checkmark concept pretty much yanked the rug out from under that. I don't go to Twitter nearly as much anymore. It's like some kind of frat party now, just a lot of obnoxious behavior and loud people. There's a huge need for a Twitter-like app that has a non-broken verification system, so you know the celeb/news outlet/politician whose post you're reading is the real deal.

… parroted straight from Musk’s tweet.
