Meta's Twitter Alternative 'Threads' Now Available

Twitter has “tweets” — what will Threads have?

Posts or comments. Like on this forum or Reddit or Discord. No need to have fancy terms for each new service.

The bigger problem might become that "threads" will be ambigous. Companies should stop using such generic names. (They should have called it Metathread, or Meth for short. ) But hopefully that service will tank anyway.

Really. I didn’t bother responding to it because it was obvious justification of how it was a genius move to massively overpay for a break even business and then systematically destroy it burning value and put in a course to bankruptcy by destroying revenue and long term prospects.

Same. I thought that was the only value in Twitter and diluting the verified checkmark concept pretty much yanked the rug out from under that. I don't go to Twitter nearly as much anymore. It's like some kind of frat party now, just a lot of obnoxious behavior and loud people. There's a huge need for a Twitter-like app that has a non-broken verification system, so you know the celeb/news outlet/politician whose post you're reading is the real deal.

Agreed. What FB and Tw cover is essential territory. Fb never did it well but nobody did it better at scale. Twitter did well until Musk. There is a huge open space here for an entity to replace both of these incumbents.

I’d hoped Apple would buy Twitter but they don’t want the hassle even if it would improve folks lives by offering a solid sanely run platform.

I guess the elites did not like having to find another site for their child trafficking endeavors. And of course the main other reason is some people’s definition of free speech is only the type they agree with. I use Twitter to share astrophotography and try to make sense of breaking news since all the regular media is just opinion based and agenda driven.

Yeah, people are forgetting that Instagram had (has?) a LITERAL PEDOPHILE RING. The fact that threads is an app teenagers are going to use is really scary and unsafe.

It’s also very healthy for Twitter that kind of people who would embrace meta do leave…. I understand the excuse people give for staying on fb… friends and family.., or some groups that don’t exist in other places, however most are not meta fans and recognize the company for what it is.
