8/10 for a non-screaming fan? I may very well get this game after all. I didn't read the full review but it looks like they're going back to a snowy environment. One thing I didn't like about previous MGS games was the lack of environment changing.

Hmm!

So people were critical of Haze's review from IGN until most of the other press pretty much slammed it too. But how things change in the space of a week, as IGN UK post their review of MGS4 ( I wonder how many fanboys are going to be moaning at the score this time? ) :)

Who cares? Along with GTA IV, it seems that MGS4 is one of the two must own games of the year. It's not often you get two games this good in one year.

i too cant wait for mgs4! Was a huge fan of mgs1, 2 and three. They all have their strength and weaknesses. I love MG1 and MG2 also. Gameplay and story above fancy graphics anyday. Though if mgs4 does look pretty damn hot!

Just as a side to this, can anyone get the flash videos to load from the MGS4 site? Mine go all the way to the end of loading, then just stop doing anything at all.

My point being as soon as IGN give a game a bad score there are hordes of fan boys declaring IGN has 'HATERZ' of all things PS3, and then as soon as they give another game a glowing review - all of a sudden IGN are the 'GREATEST' ... Just bloody ironic and hypocritical.

However it doesn't detract that hopefully they are right and MGS4 is the first MGS game I can finally get 'into'...

Being getting into loads of new style games lately. NBA, Fifa etc. Currently playing both GRID racer and to my surprise GT5 Prologue which I don't actually suck on :) (used to be hopeless on drivers but now I've suddenly aquired this skill from nowhere :D)

EDIT!! Can someone clarify for me - is MGS Online packaged with MGS4 or will it be a seperate release ? I keep reading contradictory information about this and the IGN review didn't mention the online game.

Its provided all as one. The online play included is a starter pack, and new maps and game modes will have to be downloaded.

Wonder why I always have to set the record straight?

The Metal Gear Solid series is meant to play out like a movie. There really isn't any other game out there that can come close to claiming it can do this.

Sure, some of the cut-scenes may be long, but it adds to the overall feel of the game and accompanies the story very well, and for those who are too incompetant to actually look around, the cut-scenes can often give clues to easier routes or items.

For those slamming it for it's "cheesiness;" really? Do you have NO concept of humor? There are tons of examples in metal gear where humor is used, not just for the hell of it, but what can make the game progress in ways other games don't. I mean, how many hard-core, snap-neck, shoot-em-ups allow you to throw a nudy magazine on the ground to distract guards? It's a tension breaker. It also adds to the replay value.

Hell, look at the CARDBOARD BOX! That right there is easily in the top ten best game strategies ever. It's straight out of a cartoon.

MGS4>all.

Chill out. Kay? :)

It's certainly true of some other sites. The North American media in particular has an anti-Sony flavour to it, part of the perverse and insane nationalism that afflicts many Americans. Some of it has to do with different gaming cultures.

Europe and the US are probably about five years behind countries like Korea and Japan when it comes to gaming (especially online and social gaming), as you would know if you lived here. My students think my taste in games is terribly old fashioned.

which is something not everybody likes ... some simply prefer their games to stay games instead of becoming movies

^Well then this game is not your/their cup of tea...simple and plain no harm no foul.

I myself enjoy the cut-scenes because much of the story lies within them and they are presented in top quality...plus it gives me a break from tension of sneaking around.

This game is not different from others.....some will love it and some will hate it.

I know I'm going to enjoy myself to the grandest kind when I get my copy.

Bad blood brewing.... Konami has apparently set limits on things that reviewers (early ones anyway) can discuss. No-no's include things like install time/size & cut-scene length.I heard that every 'act' of the game has a brief install time in-game although there are little activities or something to cover it up.

****ing metacritic BS again. That damn site and all the others like it are the worst thing for the game industry... All about getting that good metacritic score...

^ Yeah installing after every chapter ? What a balls.

To be honest this installing thing is utterly flawed. It's done to speed up load times of a game, and yet in itself waiting 20 minutes when you stick in a disc, as opposed to waiting a few seconds at intervals throughout the game. The time your waiting is probably about the same overall.

Then the other argument is that it helps the flow of a game, but if your like reports say having to face install at every chapter in this game, how does that speed up anything...

Added to the fact that your HDD becomes pretty full quickly, and your forced to have to either clean your games which you could still be playing off your HDD, spend more money on a bigger HDD, or just not bother playing the game you've bought.

People moan at the 360, but in fairness I have never exceeded the normal 20GB HDD in regards to my gaming goes, but everytime I seem to buy a new PS3 game lately I'm having / forced to clean games out that I'm still playing.

To me the benefits of installing game data to HDD are not worth the cons (this generation).

I went to london yesterday and met Kojima himself (and Yoji Shinkawa and one of the beauties, her name was Yumi, cant remember her second name) and got myself a limited edition case Sleeve, signed by all three. On the back its got all the sort of specs, and this game is gonna need 4.6GB of install space... thats pretty massive, but not too much imo.

And the pictures on the back show snake riding a motorbike chasing Eva... looks pretty awesome!!

40/40 from Famitsu

MONEY HATZ!!

Not to pour salt on a wound but why give credence to a FAMITSU score ?

Basically what they have said is MGS4 is worth 6 extra points over HAZE which scored 34/40 and turned out to be an utter frickin turkey of a game on ALL levels.

Not that i'm saying MGS4 is a turkey, but just put simply why on earth get excited about famitsu when their review scoring system has certainly been very dodgy of late...

I dont really care about Famitsu, I just care about IGN, Gamespot, and Gametrailers (Gametrailers being the best). But with the glowing reviews so far (okay, just the IGN one) I might have to pick this one up :D

Dude seriously....No. IGN is cool but the others are garbag'e...GT is only good for trailers and thats about it.

MRU...just hush:D

I don't know why we are still discussing the reviews.....we all know this game is on the grandest scale and MOST everyone will enjoy it except MRU.

Another AAA title for the PS3 my fellow PS3ers

^Exactly.....pictures or it didn't happen.

as requested....

Sorry if they aren't that good quality; the only scanner I have is pretty old.

For snake on a motorbike, its the second picture on the bottom row on the back of the cover.

PM me if you want full size scans, I had to downsize them to attach them.

FYI. Other games that got a perfect score from Famitsu:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
Soulcalibur (1999)
Vagrant Story (2000)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003)
Nintendogs (2005)
Final Fantasy XII (2006)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008)

I'm pleased that MGS4 will be on a par with Nintendogs. I never played Vagrant Story, is it any good?
