You want scratches on phone screen. Just wear your diamond ear ring when making calls. Won’t need to press hard at all. In a few days walla! Nice set of scratches on screen.

And for those micro scratches all over, a few grains of sand in pocket will do wonders. When is last time you turned out your pockets? Betcha there are at least a couple sand grains in there.

I doubt it’s sand in everyone’s situation, it’s likely just ‘grit’. The key if someone is worried about debris in their pocket where they carry phones, turn the pocket inside out and use a lint roller to remove any debris. Also, when washing any pants/shorts, turn the pockets inside out. Not difficult Measures that can alleviate any future problems.

I have always used a screen protector on all of my phones and was thoroughly happy, when the tempered glass protectors came out. I had my launch day X until 12/21/18, when it was replaced during a botched battery replacement. Even then it had 3D tempered glass protector on the front and on the back. There were 0 scratches and micro scratches as I don’t use my phones without a case or screen protector. The rep I had couldn’t even tell I had protectors on the back and front and commented on how well the screen and back looked. Even though I have moved to a 2 year upgrade cycle starting last year for my phones, the last thing I want to do is go to Apple to have the screen replaced, or have one of my kids pick up my phone and drop it, causing the screen to shatter or get scratches. I don’t sell my devices and keep them as a backup or give them to family members. I have been using my X for the last 2 days without a case, but that’s only because I have glass protectors on the front and back with only the top, bottom and sides exposed.

Soft “grit” is fine. Only hard “grit” will scratch. Like “grit” with mohs rating of 6 or higher. That’s “grit” like silica quartz. Sorry for using non-technical term like sand. Not all silica quartz congregates on beaches. A few grains find their way into pockets, sleeves, pouches, etc. Anti social silica quartz, hard grit.

It’s pefectly logical that the actual scratch resistance of the new phones is worse. The new glass is formulated to be more shatter resistant, which almost certainly makes it slightly softer and hence more scratchable
Essentially it’s a trade off between hardness (which gives scratch resistance) and flexibility in the glass which gives shatter resistance

Anyone getting really small micro scratches on their screen? My iPhones usually do but surprised I have so many after just a week of use. I’m really careful with my phone too. Granted, this is only visible under a bright light or spotlight but don’t know how they got there so quick. Anybody else noticed this?

I’ve been getting scratches on the bottom of screen. I didn’t want to pay for a screen protector because the iPhone 8 was awesome never scratched. Did you get any answers to your problem

All screens get micro scratches from normal wear and tear. Put a screen protector on and you won’t see it

A screen protector can even hide smaller micro scratches on the screen. Also you get a new oleophobic coating every time you replace your screen protector.

It really is a win-win. With better quality protectors you can't even tell it's on.

If there are scratches bottom of the display, obviously something is coming into contact with it, (Keys, perhaps the way your docking it, etc.) As others have suggested, once the display scratches around display, it’s permanent. You will have to use a screen protector

I removed all my surface scratches with toothpaste but it has 2 be white toothpaste from what I herd the white Colgate toothpaste has less addictive and coloring meaning less of actual toothpaste. I tried using a blue crest one iPhone XS Max took it out a lil.. the white Colgate eliminated it where U couldn’t see it.. if there deeper surface scratches it a take um out there visibility, making um match ur screen polish but they a still be there if U really look for um..

Toothpaste is NOT a good idea.

Depending on the brand it could be way more abrasive and actually damage the screen.

If you do not use a screen protector, there will be micro scratches. Not really an issue unless in direct sunlight.

I haven't used a screen protector for years and have never observed scratches. Then again, I don't go actively looking for scratches under a bright light that I can't see otherwise. Protectors are nasty. They get gunked up and hard to clean with time.

Agreed... The screen has oleophobic? coatings to reduce fingerprints among other things. Using toothpaste (sandpaper basically) is a terrible idea.

Use a screen protector, man. $20 for some peace of mind.

You can find decent screen protectors for less than $20, even purchasing like a five pack, if you have to replace them every three months, then they literally pay for them selves.

In My own opinion, iPhone displays are plenty durable, where I don’t need a screen protector, but I’m also fairly cautious with how I handle my iPhone as well.

In my experience all the iPhone's I have purchased have come with micro scratches on the display out the box, I think there must a veritable sand storm in the Foxconn factory.

I find the QC on Apple products to be very very poor.

I'm sure you will defend them though Newton as that seems to be consistent in your (over 22000 posts!)

If you are unhappy with Apple, stop buying it. I am no fan boy as I got a bone to pick with the MacBook Pro that could not be resolved so I went back to ThinkPads and Windows.

Far as phones go, I have tried most and Apple has served me the best.

If you think their “QC is very, very poor” and you continue to buy . . . Well that is your fault!

I feel privileged that one of your 207 posts was to me!:p

Apple’s QC is above average. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant or hasn’t actually bought other brands. All of the iPhones I’ve bought since the 4s (my first iPhone) have had perfect screens. Bought new though.

Please don't feel privileged, your not.

I have not continued to buy Apple phones having got rid of my max....and am very happy with my Oneplus 7 Pro.

I continue to use a Mac and iPad as the QC on those has been better and I like iOS for a tablet.

Are you house bound as you seem to spend the vast majority of your life on here?

Just saying

You seem a bit jealous of my post count.

Enjoy you “perfect” OnePlus “Pro”. LOL!

Anyway, done here.

Our family has been buying iPhones since the iPhone 4. We skipped the 4s/8/x. Out of all of the phones since 2010 only one was returned out of the box for issues other than appearance. I find the QC in Apple products to be excellent.

So as it goes in life ymmv.

That’s good to hear, alas my experience has been very different on their iPhone product line.

I like apples product design very much but Foxconn is not up to snuff getting phones out the factory without cosmetic imperfections.

Some people may not look that closely or care as long as it switches on and works but for the money apple charge and how much they bang on about the materials they use and their design I expect more.
