People call me a fanboy for saying this, but Microsoft stuff is pretty much always trash. The stereotype has been 100% true so far: I have never been satisfied with an MS product. I stopped wasting my time with MS a while ago and went almost MS-free when I got my MacBook so I don't have to use Windows 7 at school.

And they're right

Hey guys! I just woke up from being cryogenically frozen back in 1996! Is grunge still the crazy music all the cool kids listen to?

MS really cleaned up their stuff in Windows 7. Its quality is still far below that of Mac OS, but people like that guy you replied to are far off. I don't think they even have the BSOD anymore.

And they're right

Sorry for not liking MS. I guess people who hate products by Delorean Motor Company are fanboys, too, and the people who hate the Snuggie. Believe it or not, it is possible for a company to be good-for-nothing. If disliking for good reasons all products that Microsoft (and DMC) made is fanboyism, then I'll take it.

Definitely fear Microsoft's BSODs, crashes, freezes, failed boots, data corruption, drive fragmentation, viruses and Trojans , zillions of DLLs, registry corruption.
All of the above that could drive a man totally insane.

The only thing on that list that isn't on a Mac is DLL registry corruption and maybe viruses. Apple has a version of its own for everything else on your list.

Hey, the Delorean Motor Company helped create a time machine! Quit being a hater. :p

Why would you say that? If anything, Android fans should fear Microsoft.

Because I have read every post in this thread. And I see fear. Fear of competition. Of all companies, Microsoft has the best chance to take a big chunk of the tablet market. Maybe not as big as Apples, but who knows what the next few years will bring. There are hundreds of millions of Windows users who don't own an iPad or Android tablet. They may be slightly interested in a Windows version. And so many here couldn't stand the thought of Microsoft competing with Apple in this market. Hence the multitude of hating posts.

Sorry for not liking MS. I guess people who hate British Petroleum are fanboys, too.

You know, Microsoft will never, ever, recover from their greed. They wanted world domination and that everyone will be using windows and they got what they asked for. They are stuck forever with backwards compatibility and hence they can't start fresh. OS X is the best thing ever to happen for apple. They don't have the same market share like Microsoft so they can start from scratch. Microsoft does not have that option, ever. They asked for world domination and they have something that is just a completely convoluted mess called windows.

Put any revision number behind the word microsoft windows X and it's still the same windows from before. Just more added snuff. Many people can't understand that and will not accept it because windows 7 looks and feels great. Go right ahead and the more you install programs, the more you use the system, the slower the damn thing gets.

Sure, go buy faster processors so that your machine will feel faster. It's the same crap in new gear. Sorry, but I will never ever use windows again personally. Even at work, the policy is BYOG - and I would never opt to use a windows machine, period.

Yup.

Now it's Windows 8 with a new improved BSOD.

What's really ironic is that we all try to get away from the typical laptop and migrate over to a tablet (ever since the intro of the iPad 1). Now we figure ways to attach the tablet to a damn dock and a keyboard. If people can, they would probably attach a mouse too. So what does that look like?

Let me guess, a frickin' small laptop. Stop trying to make it a laptop.

It's kind of like tofurky...instead if enjoying tofu for what it is, people try to turn it into the neat they are avoiding.

Yeah, that flashback trojan that infect millions and took forever to get addressed really painted a bad picture for Microsoft... Oh wait...

It's a good thing Apple isn't greedy and doesn't want dominance.

They still have BSODs in Windows. Someone is gonna have a stick of ram go bad on them at some point, no matter how good the machine is. The biggest difference now is that the new blue screen has a sad face on it to really drive the point home.

edit: Peace beat me to it.

As far as Win7 vs. OSX is concerned, I can argue UI. I generally tend to prefer OSXs more homogeneous UI to Windows 7. But from a pure usability and performance standpoint, there's barely any difference between the two.

Also, you still haven't answered my question about how you can make a tablet that doesn't look like a tablet.

I'm waiting.

First off, the snuggie is dumb. There is no arguing there.

Secondly, it's alright to like one product over another. Alright to not like one particular product for various reasons. But you have no excuse to be ill informed about it.

You do know they just skim off the top 10% of the richest people on the planet and that's enough for them ;)

They don't cater to the poor and their pricing shows. It's like asking ferrari to make a car that competes with honda for $22k. Ferrari will tell you to go f'yourself.

Wait, they do make a ferrari branded laptop - and my friend owns one! He can't wait to ditch it for a new MBPR 15.

I guess Delorean's part in Back to the Future (my 2nd favorite series), although indirect, makes up for the stupidity of their cars. I take it back!

Oh, no. One thing is not liking some company, another thing is people like you that only write uninformed crap because of blind hatred

Steve Jobs:

The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don't think of original ideas, and they don't bring much culture into their products.

Tim Cook:

In my view, the tablet and the PC are different. And you can do things with the tablet, if you’re not encumbered by the legacy of the PC. If you view it as different. If you take the view that says this is another PC, all of a sudden you’re pulling along all of the baggage of the PC market… I love convergence, convergence is great, but products are about tradeoffs. You have to make tough decisions, you have to choose, and the more you look at a tablet as a PC, the more the baggage of the past affects the products.

He'll probably tell you that if he has to explain design aspects, you won't understand... At least thats the BS that spilled out when asked how a tablet that looks completely different is, in his words, an iPad ripoff.

All I said is that I was not satisfied with any MS products. That is a fact. There's nothing wrong with hating a company because I got their products and found that they were (and are) trashy.

Of course, I am nowhere near 100% satisfied with Apple, but they have done a better job than everyone else.

I didn't get Flashback. That virus only affected those users who voluntarily let the Trojan install by entering their credentials, users who got fooled to think they were installing Adobe Flash Player; unlike Windows, where a Trojan has a lot of ways to come in, even without the user's direct approval.

In 12+ years of Windows use, I haven't seen the registry corrupt itself on me. Who's right and who's wrong here?

Right. Keep on praying. one day you will have to reformat that sucker just to get it to boot again.

You must either never install any programs or do anything of worth on the machine. Microsoft registry the absolute worse.

I hate that quote. Simply because it's easy to say someone is tasteless without giving specific reasons why.

What's more tasteful about OSX vs. Windows 7? Rounded corners? The dock?

You're right. I mostly use my computers for the screensavers.
