Everyone who says Microsoft windows is a real joy to use vs OS X is a complete liar. Not only do you have to install virus scanner program on your windows machine, you have all the other defragging crap, malware, and a majority of the time you don't know if your system is stable enough to run something intensive that you can't have interference with from other programs installed so you resort to restarting and kill off every single program except the one that you need to run.

I've had Modo, Zbrush, and Photoshop open along with 4-5 tabs in Chrome (the most ram-eatingest browser out there). I've switched between these rather high end programs constantly with nary an issue. I've done this on a machine with 4GB of ram. With 8. Finally 12. No issues. Didn't even blink.

I have kept my Windows 7 machine running for 2 months straight. No issues.

Haven't seen a BSOD in years. (Well, not completely true. I had one a week after installing the Win8 Consumer Preview. But that's beta software).

I have had no troubles out of Windows. Not even XP.

Am I lying? Why the hell would I lie about something so stupid? I have no vested interest in MS. I generally like their stuff, but it's not like I have a huge emotional attachment to it. I just use it because it does what I need it to do. If it sucked as badly as you and some of these other people here claim it does, I would've gone 100% Mac years ago. But it doesn't, so I keep using it.

Your arguments are worthless and have no basis in reality. All you're doing is proving to me you know absolutely nothing about what you're talking about. Quit while you're ahead.

Then you don't use your Mac or you're lying, plain and simple.

OS X has kernel panics, beach ball freezes, permission corruption, hard disk fragmentation on HFS like Windows has on NTFS, etc, etc, etc

No it is not plain and simple. My last Kernel Panic was around 7-8 years ago. Since then I have not had ONE kernel panic, permission corruption, or anything. Yea I get the beach ball freeze every now and then, but that resolves in a few minutes at most.

So go ahead and say I don't use my Mac or I'm lying; neither are true.

did microsoft pay macrumors for this promotion ? cos this is all pc related news serious!!! - angry user looking for mac news only !!!!

Macrumors likes to put any apple-related story on the front page. This is probably one of the most non-apple worthy stories they've posted lately, specifically because it represents the largest competition Apple has seen to the iPad.

The iPad does dock with a keyboard. In fact, Apple did release a keyboard dock along with the first iPad. Then again, do you really need a physical keyboard with a tablet?

As for the rest, do you really need it in a ultra-portable consumption device like the iPad?

Of course not, if Apple doesn't have it, then no one needs it.

Windows 7 just came out the other day, and even with Antiviruses and all kinds of protection it gets infected one way or another.

Most Mac users don't have Antivirus software, so this Flashback Trojan had it easy once it fooled the user.

If by the other day you mean nearly 3 years ago...

You can keep making excuses for why so many macs were infected but at the end of the day, that's what they are, excuses. Complacency is no excuse unfortunatly.

But yeah, I see where this is going already. Me telling you how it is and you just hunting for excuses and blindly defending a brand. Not surprising though.

Windows 7 doesn't need a defragger, it will install anti-virus automatically if you don't, and it really isn't all that bad.

Windows 7 was a big improvement (except for the extra RAM usage). I was surprised at the quality level. It's still below Mac OS, but it's way better than XP in terms of security and cleanliness (and definitely Vista).

re: horror movie trailer?

Trailer for a horror movie?

I'll admit the video was cool, but I found the flashes and distortions to be very horror-esque. The music was also a little odd (although I suppose it went with the video well enough.)

My first impression exactly.. sounds and looks like it was copied from American Horror Story..

Just because you don't have it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know when Tiger came out for Intel, there were all sorts of issues, they were releasing OS updates on a seemingly monthly basis. Lately Apple has been pretty good with their updates, but so has Microsoft.

I doubt he's ahead at this point. Even someone who doesn't like any of MS's products (me) doesn't like this guy's arguments.

No, you must never run more tha 1 program on your box, because you use an iPad. I use a PC, and usually have 2 IDE's, 2 web browsers, an email client, office, and an emulator open and music playing. It runs quite quickly too.

Well, good for you for running a few programs at a time on a windows machine. I would expect it to do so at least. I don't know what you are getting at with the iPad statement; I'm also thinking about installing some AV apps on my mac. And perhaps a defragging software like many on the PC. And yes, my iPad only runs one app at a time.

PC owners buy a new computer every year. That's the norm. Why? Because it makes their machines run better. 1 day in 4380 days? Right. you must never run more than one program at a time in your box.
Really? I'm using a Dell XPS M1330 in 2007 right now with Windows 7. Works like a charm. I did upgrade to SSD because it's awesome. You mean like upgrading to 3GS to 4 to 4S to run the latest?

Why do you think 3D fly-over is disabled on the iPhone 4? Because it sucks. Look at how it performs on YouTube after someone got it to run on an iPhone 4.

FYI: On my old 2007 laptop with 2.5GB of RAM running Windows 7 has the following programs running:

- Windows Media Center watching a high-definition OTA show using my HDHomeRun over wifi.
- Three instances of Chrome with 5 tabs each
- Mathcad for my work.
- Connected to my 24" monitor.

So yes, I only run one program at a time.

You're the one who's worried about Windows 8, not me. The more great products I have to chose from, the better for me. I'll chose the one that is best for me. You chose what's best for you, even if it's not.

lol, i'm not worried about microsoft. My money is in AAPL. And if I owned MSFT, I'd be really worried. You can choose windows if you'd like. I'm not here to judge YOU. Guess who won't be buying windows anything? That's right, me :D

And you know, the same is about using Windows. Perhaps the sarcasm was not clear.

I deal with Windows at work every day, all versions up to Windows 7, so stop trying to be a smart a--.

Then it is clear that you're lying

I'll spell it out for you:

You're mocking Windows for only being able to run 1 program at a time.

I'm mocking you for using an iPad, and being stuck with the same 1 program at a time paradigm.

Unless such an Apple devotee like yourself doesn't own an iPad

Seriously, take a chill pill. You're getting worked up and not making much sense.

So when is it that you're actualy ********ting? Now when you claim you work with windows machnes all day, or earlier when you said Win 7 "just" came out? You're either BSing or don't know what you're talking about so which is it?

There was that whole Beach ball of death debacle upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6. There are also grey screens of death that I get a few times a year. Hard drives get fragmented on Macs also.

Actually, Mac OS stores the files in a way that prevents fragmentation. Mac OS is certainly not perfect (and has problems), but it is better than Windows. The lack of a feature similar to Expose in Windows is enough to make me annoyed with the interface. Dragging windows around the screen is the weakness of window-based GUI, and Apple has done a good job of fixing it.

Of course you're worried. It shows in every post. You can't be objective.

Yeah, that flashback trojan that infect millions and took forever to get addressed really painted a bad picture for Microsoft... Oh wait...

Good job picking up on the one rare security issue a tiny number of Apple users faced. I'd do the same for all the viruses and trojans Microsoft Windows users face everyday, but that list would likely spawn many trillions of pages on here.

So you want to throw in a 2007 laptop to debate about how well it runs your workload with only 2.5GB ram? How about I boot up my 486DX2 with OS/2 using only 4MB ram? Productive, nope - but if you insist on using your dell, good for you!

Agreed. Don't you think Apple should have 2-app multitasking on the iPad? Not a window system but a 2-app system. MS Snap comes to mind, one of the good features added to Windows 7.
