You think, what does that mean? It either is or is not? MS fangirls talk about Apple been guarded but now we have MS not putting out specks.

I did find finally the spec and it shows that its .1mm thinner than an iPad 3.

and this

"Unfortunately, the Touch Cover wasn’t working, but it simply attaches to the bottom of the tablet and turns itself on. The keyboard feels rubbery, but because it is all based on touch it doesn’t actually have any give."

Lets see when it finally actually comes out what it has for the consumer. I don't think MS cares about the consumer this is all for Corp. IT which is fine by me.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technol...-surface-tablet-first-impressions-and-photos/

There is 2 versions of the cover, one that is rubbery and touch, and then another that has feedback but is slightly thicker.

I should have worded that better. A touchscreen would be annoying on a propped up tablet that has a keyboard attached that you are using like a laptop keyboard.

Oh, well looks like MS has you covered. You can prop it up with the kick stand (and invariably the coutless 3rd party cases) and not use a keyboard or prop it up with the keyboard and use the trackpad instead of the touch screen.

Steve-o has past on. I don't think you can put any blame on him or credit him for the current/future products released.

The entire topic is about these new tablets from Microsoft. What exactly did microsoft showcase today? NOTHING. A non functioning keyboard cover, a kickstand that looks like it's holding up an iPad 1 sized toshiba laptop, and the fact you will see windows 8 on a tablet.

Other than that, there is NO point in talking any further about this tablet. No way to gauge how good it is against an iPad that is selling millions and millions. The hundreds of posts are just witty and not so witty comments about how sucky this thing is. The truth is, it's not even going to be out in a month, two months, nor three. That's an eternity. Not to mention, what apps? What ecosystem? Xbox live integration? That's for the geeks. No one cares because if they did, they wouldn't of gotten iPads.

So you MS clowns are just throwing feces up against the wall trying to draw a huge windows logo. Please don't lose sleep over this tonight because you are excited about these non-existing gadgets you can't buy in months. I suggest you guys pull up your iPads and enjoy a netflix show or two. Then maybe read a national geographic magazine about endangered dolphins in japan on the iPad. All while playing music in the background. After that, go to sleep and when you wake up, you will forget this thing was ever announced.

You've certainly made a lot of posts about something that you consider not worth talking about. Strange, isn't it. I'll sleep fine tonight. I have nothing to worry about. I think you do. Perhaps in the morning when you read the gibberish that you've posted you'll think otherwise.

The fact that this topic has gotten so many posts so fast shows that Microsoft must be doing something right. No Android tablet has been able to draw nearly this much attention.

The Xoom actually did gather a lot of attention that was promptly killed when they released the price. I'm not saying anything about this tablet's price (as the price is unknown), but I predict that this will not be the iPad killer or a serious competitor.

But if it did have a vent... It would be a macbook air? That's certainly what you implied, I'm trying to figure out if I misunderstood you or if you should be grouped into the senseless fanboy group?

Haha group me into whatever but I find the fact that this "tablet" has a vent to be a step backward. Thus is why I made the joke that this thing shouldn't be considered a tablet. Think about what this thing is it has a touch screen a touch screen UI over basically windows 7, it has a vent, it has a magnetic attachment with a trackpad and keyboard. So let's go over this thing in bullet points to make it easier for you

-mouse
-keyboard
-point and click UI
-processer that requires ventalation

That does not make me think of a tablet ;p

gibberish? Not far off from the same gib you spew, my friend. Like I said, please post back to this thread when you buy the tablet. I will be happy to help you sell it when it flops.

Yes, I like that about this tablet. The chances of it actually being good overall (let alone being good enough for me to buy, and I won't buy the iPad) are very, very, very, very slim.

Is he even going to buy this? I've only seen him correcting some bad comments you made.

What I am looking forward to is the Apple x86 osx tablet with retina display running Windows 8 by bootcamp or virtualization SW(e.g. parallels). Its price should start at $499. :D

Will it happen?

Yes, it should. Go, Go, Apple~

How does a vent in any way affect the way you use a tablet? I'd love to hear this. Tell me what you coudln't do with an iPad if it had a vent. While you're at it, tell me how much more functional the surface would have been without one. This should be good...

You know the fanboys are pooping bricks when they start complaining about... a vent.

You don't have to use a keybaord
You don't have to point and click
You don't have to use a mouse

You can use it exactly the way you use an ipad... By touching the screen

I'm laughing at you, not with you. Carry on.

sigh, it's OK, my friend. You have been waiting far too long since the courier days. Your dreams have finally come true! Be sure to send me a link or two showing this thing actually turns on and how the keyboard cover works.

Thank you. I have no idea if I'll but it or not. We'll see what it's like when it's released. We all know the iPad is an excellent, proven tablet. It's the best that is currently available. The Surface may be just as good or it may not. Not one person on this forum knows what it will be like. Lots of talk, no facts.

why would you ever want vents? This is a tablet. There should be no vents. Wait I forgot, you need vents because it's very un-pc if it didn't have any.

My laptop blows out hot air. I don't think my iPad should do the same.

For one, you have to worry about covering the vent or getting stuff stuck in it. It also makes it look worse. As for usability, the vent does not hamper it.

Really looking forward to this. Hoping they use these as bribes to get devs building win 8 apps like they did in the past with the nokias.

But I think this is all part of the point, this is part of Microsoft's strategy for fusing a touch screen interface with a traditional GUI. Whether this is wise or not at this stage is debatable (as is whether Windows 8 is trying it the right way).

At some point I think it likely that Apple will try to converge OS X and iOS too...

720p for ARM-based
1080p for Intel-based

ARM-based is expected in October 2012.
Intel-based is supposedly 3 months after ARM-based.

Is iOS 6 vaporware as well?

Only if all the people right now using it are just lying.

Can't say the same for MS bloatware. Still I will hold judgement for when it comes out and if their is benefit financially for me to use or learn to manage these tablets then I will do so. If not its just another Zune. I am sure some people will buy it after all a good percentage of MS fangirls posting here will definitely buy one. For me I will stick with what works year after year. :)

Exactly. Although I have high doubts about this, it looks like it can be better than the other iPad competitors. Really, we don't know. MS could break its bad record with me and make something great that I could even buy.

Will it melt cheese?

I'd find this product much more interesting (regardless of price) if it came with a set of Ginsue knives and maybe a cheese grater attached to the back. It would also be nice to know if the glass were tempered as I think it could serve as a rather elegant hot plate. As with all MS products, I can't help but wonder if it will get hot enough during it's 45 minute run time to melt cheese.

The MSFT Ecosystem is going to be a nightmare and confusing to users because software wont work on both. Then we have to figure out how Windows Phone 8 fits in this.

So will this device have harmony with a desktop or phone or neither. That could mean buying apps or compatible software 3 times in some cases.

My laptop blows out hot air. I don't think my iPad should do the same.

So you'd rather have a tablet you can read webpages on with style, rather than a tablet capable of running Photoshop (which would work pretty well since it has what I assume is a Wacom digitizer onboard). And why? Because you don't like the vent?

That rug totally tied the room together, man.
