People and their personas are so varied. I don’t expect anything.

But to entertain your point, I expect that if they need those power user features so much, to an extent where they cannot function without them, then spin up a Windows VM for those specific use-cases and use Outlook for Mac with everything else.

Not saying that is ideal, I have no real opinion on it, just giving you a solution.
That's not a solution, nor is that acceptable. If Microsoft is going to dumb down the Mac version then charge Mac customers less money than the Windows version. Period. You care more about looks. I care about functionality because at the end of the day functionality gets the work done, not "prettiness". If Apple was pulling this stunt making the same software for multiple platforms and charging the same money for all platforms yet the Mac customers get a lot more for the same money there would be lawsuits left right and sideways. There should be a lawsuit for how Microsoft cheats Mac customers but charges them full price.

Excellent! Now let me create Teams meetings from Outlook reliably! I'm so sick of 50% of the time, Outlook never inserting the Teams link into the invite

MS is still blowing off most IMAP mail accounts in the "New" Outlook. U need to use the "Old" look to keep those accounts.

So I tested this in the insider slow path on my works Office 365 tenant, and one thing it dropped support for from the prior version was contact lists i.e. I add a contact of "Email List 1" and it can be expanded to the 50 people I need to send reports to. Without this I don't want to upgrade because I'll have to copy and paste the To: and CC: fields every day which is just way way way more cumbersome.

That looks great!

As anti-MS as I was years ago, it has really stepped up and improved.

Seeing this took me back to Windows XP. Bleh! Yucky. This is not a good fit with macOS. It's a custom UI.

Thankfully I'm not an Outlook user, but I do respect Microsoft for the future strides that they've finally been making. Guess they can't be perfect all the time, though. :p

and yes I agree that teams is a big slow pile of electron crap
I agree Teams can be a bit slow, but I don't think Discord shares that slowness and that's made using Electron too, I think. 🤔

Anyway, like many others I too think Microsoft is doing a good job recently when it comes to the graphical look in its software. I think the Edge browser looks great, for example.

Been running the beta with this design for a couple of months. Honestly love it. Besdies work, I use outlook for my gmail account now. I think Microsoft really knocked it out of the park with this client.

Very much looking forward to this, and glad to see Microsoft continuing to recognize that Mac users are also potential Microsoft business customers.

Maybe if MicroSHAFT finally makes the Mac version 100% the same as the Windows version with all the same features and apps as what you get in the Windows version then I will take M$ seriously. Publisher and Access are Windows only yet the Mac customers have to pay the same price for 365. SMH.

This plus lack of local storage on OneNote has caused me to ditch MSFT on my Macs.

I think my favourite new "feature" of this is that when you accept/tentative/decline a meeting with a response through the context menu, it now takes you to the same message compose screen, with the same three options repeated on the screen, regardless of the menu option you chose.

The number of meetings I accepted with a polite decline message before I rolled the new UI back....
🤦‍♂️ Reported it to MS and they said it's supposed to be like that.

I’d be happier to hear they’re making a big push for feature parity. Getting tired of not being able to do simple things like see my team’s calendars etc. I even put myself on insider fast channel just so I can get some the more important stuff sooner.

It looks great but if it keeps signing me out of my iCloud email like it currently does, it's useless to me.

For anybody beta-testing the update, does Outlook now sync with Mac OS Contacts and Calendar?

I'm beta testing (and agree it's great for the most part) and I'm not aware that Outlook syncs with macOS Contacts/Calender (I believe that was back in the days of iSync) but rather syncs with contacts/calendars of accounts you add (Exchange, Gmail, etc)

It's laughable that the 'new' version of Outlook for macOS, nor *any* version for iOS/iPadOS, are yet capable of viewing or decrypting S/SMIME emails from 'old' Outlook from Mac or Windows. But iOS Mail can.

I’m on the outlook beta and don’t see any options for single line view with the reading pane to the right. Also in conversation view it shows messages in sent items and filed messages which makes the thread look very confusing.
On the windows side, in conversation view, it would show messages filed or archived in italics. This made it a lot easier to go through emails.

Yes. This ain’t happening. Microsoft still sees the iPad as a Mobile device. Do not expect such apps to get developed for the iPad

But isn’t the same app ? Why bother make two apps , since it can compile it to iPad.

I have been testing the new Outlook for a while and I will not be making the switch from the standard OS apps. The reasons are:
* No widgets
* currently Outlook cannot import ics files (which I use extensively) into Exchange calendars
* No support for extensions in macOS
* doesn't currently support Exchange Online archives (the old version did - now we have feature parity with the Mail.app which also doesn't support online archives)
* doesn't use macOS notifications for calendar
* no support for S/MIME mails. It might come before RTM though..

Apart from that Outlook is just prettier and faster than before..

But isn’t the same app ? Why bother make two apps , since it can compile it to iPad.
No there are two separate apps, with completely different base code. Do not expect that Microsoft will unify the code...Two different teams working on two different products. the iOS version might be ok for the iPhone but on the iPad is severely crippled..
