From a manufacturing design this looks like a fail. It won't be able to endure the stresses of being stretched that tightly and not tear, crinkle, bulge and number of bad things. It just won't be able to endure that flexibility over any length of time. I could be wrong.

This is really interesting for a lot of reasons. But I think the coolest thing is that for the first time, you can carry full blown viruses, spyware and malware in your pocket. What a time to be alive.

Love all the hate on something that doesn't even exist yet based solely on a Render, which kinda looks a bit like a foldable iphone 5 which I think might look kinda awesome but again a render, and of course not being an Apple product. I know it's macrumors forum but let's try not to hate on other companies trying to be innovative till its at least on the market.

I'm sure reactions would be a lot different if it was an Apple product. Just saying.

Another science project to get praise from the teachers, love from your parents, and get tossed in the garbage when you come in third.

Cool, cannot wait to have a folding device that has just says 'Working on updates' all the time. Want use it... nope.. Windows will say 'Working on updates' . Then when you go to actually use a program it will randomly restart.

What are you talking about ? We have memojis coming. ;) Innovation at its finest.

The replies in this thread are so predictable. I guess most are happy with innovation meaning - removal of ports, milking older tech for years, animojis, watch bands, etc.. I think its great that some companies are willing to push the envelope and think outside the rounded rectangle which Apple so proudly defends at all cost.

I’m not holding out that it will be a good product but at least Microsoft is trying to innovate.

With this being pocketable... will you carry this and your smartphone?

Or is this supposed to be your phone too?

I'm just having a hard time trying to figure out where a device like this fits. We've got smartphones and computers... with tablets in-between. And this appears to be tablet-like while also being pockatable.

I guess it's good to have options.

Microsoft Courier 2.0.

Why not announce when ready? It's the equivalent of Apple announcing their car, now. The tech press need to up their game. Oh yeah, forgot, the tech press cares little beyond clicks and ad impressions. A point against MR for not mentioning Courier.

And why are Microsoft using this wallpaper? It's so close to the wallpaper Apple included with and used heavily in the marketing of iOS 9: http://i.imgur.com/swl1WmC.png
This is not a Microsoft rendering or marketing artwork. It's a concept rendering someone found on the internet based off what they heard regarding Andromeda rumors.

On another note, if it's running another mobile version of Windows OS it's DOA.

Condescending remarks don’t sound smart. Since you’re so grown up or whatever (don’t know what Age has to do with anything old timer) what things will improve people’s use of computers besides faster RAM, more dense CPU’s, and faster storage? Also, name one smart device that uses emojis. Name a wearable that toutes emojis?

You think computers evolution is limited to faster RAM, more dense CPU’s, and faster storage? Yea it happens when you buy too many apple gadgets. You must be using some high end tech at work.

Smart devices are so smart they need keyboards, digital simulation or you can add your even "smarter" physical one to iPad "Pro", rendering moot the whole tablet concept while running candy crush OS. Also, forgot iOS versions specify emoji work insistently, a clear remark of the type of "future" functionality.

Not only do you seem excessively angry, you didn't even read the article...

That's pretty neat. I'm not sure I need foldability that badly, but I like that it exists.

I'm dying to know how they intend on wrapping a screen around that hinge without it stretching the screen in the middle. Especially in that style of hinge in the render. I seriously doubt the hinge will pop out like that because that's just asking to tear the screen in half.

This isn’t confirmed, that’s just a mock up

This is bad for Microsoft. Phones are going the ways of computers. We don’t need new “innovative” interfaces like hybrid devices on the PC side. Phones and PC’s have evolved and really the only thing people will look into when buying phones is the hardware. Just like PC’s today. The future is wearables and smart devices. They should work on that instead.

I agree completely. I've not seen anyone talk about this yet but imagine what you COULD do with cameras and AR glasses. No need for prescription lenses, the camera could compensate for the wearer being near or far sighted and enhance what is shown in the glasses (really bridging the gap between VR and AR). You could even get "bionic" vision like Col. Steve Austin from the 1970s "Six Million Dollar Man" series.
