Microsoft Courier 2.0.

Why not announce when ready? It's the equivalent of Apple announcing their car, now. The tech press need to up their game. Oh yeah, forgot, the tech press cares little beyond clicks and ad impressions. A point against MR for not mentioning Courier.

And why are Microsoft using this wallpaper? It's so close to the wallpaper Apple included with and used heavily in the marketing of iOS 9: http://i.imgur.com/swl1WmC.png
Did you even read the article?

Reading can take you miles in this life. They are not announcing anything and they are not confirming anything. These are renderings done by someone who knows someone on the inside.

This comment right here? Yeah, this bad boy did not age well.:p:D #RIF

Cool concept but the seam down the middle would bother me. Finding a way to stretch a single continuous sheet of screen across when unfolded, with a rigid backing, would be so much better.

Who would've thought Microsoft would become the innovator while Apple is the one stuck in the corner, hyper-focused on the same, tired design features. Jonny Ive is beginning to seem like he's some sort of obsessive compulsive Rain Man.

Instead of developing new and interesting products, it seems that the only things that matter at Apple are:

MUST MAKE _______ THINNER.
MUST REMOVE ALL PORTS FROM ___________.
____________ SHOULD JUST RESEMBLE A SINGLE SHEET OF GLASS.

I used to hate Microsoft but they've really been doing a great job the past 5 years.
If it wasn't for Mac OS X, I'd have jumped ship a long time ago.
If Microsoft ever does for their OS what Apple did years ago, then I'll switch and never look back. I'd love to move to Microsoft, but I just can't stand that OS of theirs. But lately, their hardware sure is looking pretty damned sweet.

MacRumours keeps using the phrase “Edge to Edge” to describe the screen of the iPhone X and of future iPhones. Given that the X does not have anything like an Edge to Edge display it leaves us with absolutely no idea what you mean when you suggest future iPhones will have Edge to Edge displays.

Why would you want a dumb OS on a pro device? I can't even do something as basic as putting an active SSH session in the background on my iPad without it dying.

Naming something "basic" you can't do doesn't automatically make all of the other uses for a device like this (running iOS for example) go away.

And just run screen or tmux or something, sheesh.

If it runs iOS, I’m in!

Why? You love Siri and like to be limited on what you can do?

Granted this is microsoft, and you will get some awful windows based tablet. If it is android though, that would up the stakes. iOS is so limited, Andriod is really outpacing them. I give credit where credit is due. Tim can shove siri down his own throat.

But Nadella has done a great job with microsoft. He is really brought innovation back to Microsoft. Tim has brought us rose gold.

Drink the decaf, have a nap, and take the joke.

Microsoft is working on a pocket-sized dual-screen Surface device according to information sourced from Microsoft internal documents and shared by The Verge.

Called Andromeda, Microsoft's dual-screen Surface project has been in development for at least two years and it's designed to "blur the lines between mobile and stationary computing," according to an internal document.

Microsoft's device will feature a wraparound display that bridges the gap of the hinge when it is fully opened, and according to The Verge, December renderings shared by David Breyer are "identical" to the current prototype versions of the upcoming Surface. The pocketable Surface can be folded in either direction or laid flat, as can be seen in the renderings.

Microsoft is said to be experimenting with stylus input for the pocket Surface, with prototype devices equipped with styluses and notepad-like apps for note taking.

The Verge's sources warn that work on Andromeda could be ceased at anytime, but Microsoft is said to have tentative 2018 release date plans, which would mean development on the device is nearing completion.

Some nebulous rumors have suggested Apple too is exploring some similar concepts, working with LG to develop an iPhone with a foldable display. Apple explores many concepts and designs for its devices, so there is likely to be some truth to the rumor.

The folding display technology being developed by LG is still a few years off, so if Apple moves forward with some sort of design that's similar to what Microsoft is working on, we won't be seeing it for several years.

At the current time, Apple is focusing on edge-to-edge displays and making a transition to OLED technology. In fall 2018, Apple is expected to introduce a second-generation 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X, a 6.5-inch OLED device that can be thought of as an "iPhone X Plus," and a 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display that will be available at a more affordable price point.

All three devices will feature edge-to-edge displays and no Home button, instead adopting Face ID and the TrueDepth camera system.

Sweet, that looks awesome. I must say I was VERY VERY disappointed when the surface mini never got released. Can't wait for something like this so I don't have to carry a full tablet anymore.

Thats one thing about MS is they are always innovating .

This is bad for Microsoft. Phones are going the ways of computers. We don’t need new “innovative” interfaces like hybrid devices on the PC side. Phones and PC’s have evolved and really the only thing people will look into when buying phones is the hardware. Just like PC’s today. The future is wearables and smart devices. They should work on that instead.

I'm guessing you haven't seen what MS has done so far with Windows 10?? 800+ million Windows 10 Devices. PC's, Laptops, Tablets, Game Consoles, POS Machines, Banking ATM machines, Healthcare Machines etc.... All Windows 10 Devices. Oh dont worry MS or their partners will be introducing Phones down the road. Once Everything is Windows 10 and the App stores and cross compatible its going to be awesome with Windows 10 Devices. That's their s strategy

Personally, if there's going to be one story sitting on the front page of MR all weekend as there usually is, I'd rather have it be something directly related to Apple offerings, rather than MS or Samsung or ...

Buy a middle-man server just to work around iOS' limitation? That's sillier than the limitation itself.

Odd assumption- that you'd need to buy a middle-man server. I don't usually ssh to any machine that doesn't already have screen or can't run tmux. And it isn't as if these tools were invented for iOS. There's always been a need to preserve a terminal session for when/if the network drops. Probably even more so with modern mobile devices with cellular connectivity.
