IF the market only explodes after Apple makes theirs... I'll take it back and say I was wrong. But saying right now that they definitely made the market because of a rumor is a bit... weird.

Edit: To put it into perspective, I wouldn't have said that Apple created the tablet market if it had just been a rumor. But they made the iPad and that kick-started a market that we're all benefitting from.

Not weird at all. Google and samsung only started on their watch due to the rumours of Apple making one.

I went back and looked at my posts and nowhere did I say that Apple created the Smart Watch market. Again, you are creating content out of thin air to debate when there is no debate to be had. I said others are creating a watch now based on rumors of Apple making one. Others as in Google and Microsoft.

And why do you assume that it is based on rumors of Apple? It could have very easily been based on sales of the Pebble. But you assume that they base their ideas on what? Rumors of what Apple might do?

Seriously? Pebble is a small fry, need help from Kickstarter, to get going type deal. I never heard of them before until I read this thread. I seriously doubt MS or Google would be basing their actions off of what Pebble is doing unless they were seeing big time numbers being made. Pebble hasn't made a market where people are running out buying smart watches off the shelves like hot cakes. People are really waiting on what the big tech companies do.

Pebble was 2012, apple rumours were 2011...

I still see it as a bit of a leap to automatically assume Google and Samsung are obviously making them because of an Apple rumor.

Agree.. Hopefully with a proper start button MS!!!!

Why do you want a start button on a device that only has the desktop for about ten programs max, than might eventually not have the desktop at all because they're moving all of it to the Modern UI?

They won't ditch the desktop, they had such a huge backlash for ditching the start menu. Additionally, businesses are talking about not going with windows 8, sticking with windows 7.

Are businesses really buying the Surface RT or are they buying full Windows 8? Because I was talking about the Surface RT.

 forget apple and work on your own products, windows 8 is the most pathetic OS of the decade, work on that!
heavy marketing wont do you a bit unless your product is good.

They're so adamant about having a universal OS, so they'll keep the desktop over all devices

That universal OS is likely the Modern UI. I don't see a reason, within a year, to have it on RT devices.

Most pathetic OS how?

Microsoft marketing showing some fails already.

One, if you are going to mention the weight, make sure it makes yours look better. With how they did it people aren't going to focus on the fact that it's a bigger screen hence heavier weight, theyr'e just going to notice in your comparison yours is heavier. You didn't get the point across well there.

Two, as some one else said, why in the world would you not use the same size storage solution when it would only serve to make yours look like a better value. I guess you were trying to show that yours got more storage for less price, maybe you were trying to make them think that ipad didn't have a 32 GB offering. But honestly, I think in the way you compared, you would have been better off using the 32 GB version and showing hte huge price difference there.

That or at least emphasize the 16GB vs 32GB so people notice they are getting more for that cheaper price (rather than the very small print on storage size and large print on price so they only focus on price).

Geeze, I could have done better than that.

Though I will think their previous ad I have been seeing on tv was pretty clever (The ones I think where they show the two tablets as comparing themselves with each other).

I wouldn't celebrate about RT just yet...

The iPad with Retina, may not be selling as much as before, but at least its popular...

How can you say this about Surface by any stretch of the imagination ?

These Microsoft Ad's are a good chuckle though, i have to admit.

They can do anything they like, but they'll see that everyone has an iPad vs no one i've even seen that has a surface.... this includes international..

If it's more popular than something else, that tells you something. And its something other than the price tag too. The other half are buying nexus 2013 instead.

Im just wondering weather THIS ad will correctly show the iPad's size, since they didn't last time. This doesn't only just show dumb marketing... Its clearly a push in their favor... MS knows what they are doing here......

Why can't they just owe up to the fact apple is just better then they are, only because they needed to drop the price of the Surface... You never saw Apple do this, and the iPad still sold.

I also would bet either its just a 'friendly" game, or its all out war...

If anyone saw that documenty on Netflix "Steve Jobs - One last thing", you would also know that Microsoft bought Apple back to life almost before they went out of business in the late 1990's.. Then Apple became popular...

Thus, all this MS is doing..... my thinking is "blackmail" ..... Its like saying "We gave you money to get back on track, and this is how you repay us by being more better than we are...."

No doubt in my mind this is what it is.

They wouldn't ever sell one more copy if they ditch the desktop.

That's a lot of theories but it looks like you agree with what Microsoft ads say (i.e. that their tablet is better than iPad and it's really hard to argue otherwise - that's why people just stick with quoting sale numbers because there is nothing else they can say).

I recently purchased the RT and I mostly use Apple products. I have to say, when compared to the iPad, I honestly prefer the RT. The app Store on the RT of course needs a ton of work, but the tablet itself is very amazing. It comes with MS office (which Apple hasn't come close to competing with) and looks and feels much more durable than the iPad. The keyboard (on screen) works much better as well. I'm a huge fan of Apple products, but this article was ridiculously biased and failed to look at even a single postive of a very well made piece of tech. Both have benefits and downfalls and avoiding a real conversation is pathetic.

Psssst... someone tell Microsoft they can google for 'ipad + accessories', and find everything they think is exclusive to Surface. They will also find there are cheaper solution compared to theirs.

I can't wait to buy one for 89 bucks and put it next to the HP tablet I never use. Their trying to enter the whole iPad market with a bad copy of the iPad. Maybe Ballmer should have talked to HP.

Phew, thank god. Now I feel better knowing I can find an extremely thin keyboard which snaps directly into the ipad and is powered exclusively by the ipad.

What is attractive about that? A buddy of mine has an RT and in the beginning he was touting the USB port (which I think is outdated at this point). He then quickly realized that when he uses the USB port for things like storage or what not, the battery of the Surface RT is quickly drained. Now he doesn't use the feature that he touted. I'm curious if the keyboard is similar in battery consumption?

Having a keyboard that I have to spend $100+ on so that it can click in and be stationary doesn't sound very attractive to me. A Bluetooth portable keyboard that I could use with multiple devices and cost less than $100 is more attractive IMHO but to each there own.
