Updated too... i just don't get why they would retina ready every onboard button, but the demo-type window still has blurry images. Either way, written text looks great, so ill keep the complaining to a minimum. I really didn't think they would even update... at all!

wow really impressed

i don't what they did, but microsoft office 2011 launch time is amazingly fast on my Mac

I keep on getting baffled my Microsoft's recurring inability to provide solid installers for their Mac Office Suite (had to do the touch trick as well).

Otherwise: Pleasant surprise. Thank you, Microsoft!

I am trying to, but Apple's ignoring of iWork for more than three years for OSX is starting to bother me. It works okay, but MSFT is going to get my business again soon as long as iWork for the desktop languishes.

And yeah, it works. I get that (anticipating the snark back). But the UI is dated, and some silly mistakes need to be rectified, and as any software program just needs some refresh to help with speed and stability.

I don't disagree with a thing your saying. I think it's just the overall viewpoints of the two companies. Apple's post-PC, Microsoft is PC+ (I think that's how they put it). Apple may neglect, or even let some things die as they move forward in what they think is the future. And I must say, even though it's a harsh way to do it, I agree with Apple.

I first thought the same as some of the posters here, the text and graphics looked the same despite the update. So I used OnyX to clean out the OS & app caches, rebooted OSX, and now the office apps started working in highDPI mode on the retina display.

Worked perfectly for me. Thanks! :D

Just spent 1.5 hours with MS tech support trying to get this version installed. Something about an older version kept the new one from installing.

Anyway the jerk forced quit all my apps without asking. Then emptied my trash - again without asking.

That said he got it installed.

When I asked why it was still pixally he told me that this update was NOT to make it retina compatible. He said I should see another update "in the next few days".

Let me add, that he had wiped my computer complete of any microsoft product - all preferences, library files, etc. Everything. So the fact that a clean install and update didn't give high resolution gives me concern. Especially as some here claim to have a retina quality install.

Update

Great update, I actually had to go to an external website to showed me how to properly apply the update, because i was seeing no change like everybody else, you need to go to your terminal, sodu touch it, put the location of your app, and then enter... do those for all 4 and you be a happy camper!

Cheers!

Mine just updated fine. I did not have to go to terminal and sudo touch each app. I updated through Auto Update (opened Word, then went to check for updates, then as it was downloading, I closed Word).

I'm not surprised it's been inconsistent for some people, I'm just letting you know that in some cases, the auto update is working.

smh

Every once in a while, I'm reminded of why I don't deal with Windows Laptops when I have a choice.

I'm sorry that you're having the problems that you are. I installed the update, touched *.app in the MS Office folder and everything is working properly. That said, there are certain deficiencies in the UI that I'm noticing. In all of my apps, the non-Home ribbons are all still pixelated, and even on the Home ribbons, some inset selected panes (like the Styles pane in Word) are pixelated.

I think MS's goal for this update was merely to make the documents themselves be Retina-enabled and they achieved that. I'm not happy with the update but it's satisfactory.

There are good people at the Mac BU. Redmond isn't the Borg ship it is sometimes made out to be.

Report the bugs, they'll get prioritized and fixes will be worked into a future release.

Not sure about anyone else, but still pixelated.
Either the update hasn't "applied" yet or Microsoft did a crappy job.

Does everyone need to do the "touch" update or just some? Mine seems to be working right without it but my ribbon bar and font preview sections are still non-retina (but this may be the case for everyone).

(FYI, I did a clean install of Office 2011 because I didn't want it to touch my rMBP until it had been retinized.)

Huh? Sorry if this comes across as excessively noobish, but how is this touch thing supposed to make the update happen? I did it and the terminal just says this:

-bash: /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Microsoft Excel.app: is a directory aasu-105-230:~ coreybonsant$

I opened up Word and it definitely doesn't look Retina to my knowledge. I compared it to my Pages to be sure.

I tried using touch, nothing worked. Can someone explain how to correct the .plist issue? Also, how do you duplicate a application? it is the same as create a alias? Sorry, I bought a mac to not deal with these issues:) leave it to microsoft...
