Oh no, not that oblivious kid in the video ad again....
Last time in the forums, we all agreed to not let a kid tell us which laptop/tablet to buy haha
That “kid” will take his payment cheque and buy an M1 Mac, long Battery life, no fan, light and I can use iOS apps on it.

I’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion here, but yes I would choose the surface pro IF I were looking for a single device solution. iPad is a better tablet by far, but even now, it’s a poor substitute for a computer with a desktop OS.
Apple fanboy here but I agree. If I weren’t so into the Apple ecosystem I would absolutely take the surface. Serval coworkers have them and I’m generally impressed by the power and flexibility.

In pretty sure Apple has repeatedly said they have no interest in doing this. And honestly, they shouldn’t - it would be better to make iPadOS more functional than to cram macOS on to an iPad.
iPadOS is maddeningly close in many ways. But the file system is a big holdup.

To get a useful Surface though, it's WAY more than these silly ads let on. My Surface Pro 4 was nearly $2K. The $899 or whatever model it is they're talking about is so underpowered it's barely useful as a web browser, IMHO.
Core i3 4GB. Yikes...

Sounds like an iPadOS update to align its abilities to Finder. What is Microsoft going to do ditch Intel and go AMD on the Surface or better yet ARM. One sound like an OS update the other sounds like a pray to be answered.

Me too. Definitely something I miss on iPadOS.

I'd call the Surface Pro "decent" at both being a tablet and a laptop, but yes, I agree, far from great at either.
Well, sure :) Likewise, I'd call the iPad Pro "decent" at being a laptop. But, the OP i was responding to used the "poor" adjective regarding the iPad Pro as a "computer".

Dude just stop. Your post is foolish. Those Mac vs. PC ads ended well over 10 years ago. So funny how MS defenders love to bring up the Mac vs. PC ads. There's no other defense but to bring up irrelevant ads from over 10 years ago. SMH. 🙄

Going back that far to the pilot just to give Palm and M$ some credit they don't deserve just shows that you're defending M$ and that's pretty pathetic.
Also your memory isn't too good. Maybe you forgot about Apple's Newton Message Pad. That came out many years before the Palm Pilot or the Pocket PC, so your argument is 100% FAIL.

One, so what if it was ten years ago. They did it.

Two, The Newton was not a phone. And you certainly could not put it in your pocket. Pocket PC's, a cellphone with bluetooth, wifi, cameras, apps and app stores, media player - I was rocking a Pocket PC in the early 2000 that could do all basic stuff smartphones of today do. You must not be very old and certainly never used one.

Neglect to mention that the Surface Pro 7 needs active cooling with a noisy fan. Gee, I wonder why.

Seems like a very Apples and Oranges comparison to be making. The only thing the two have in common are their size. They're otherwise different devices with different use cases and purposes.

I don't understand the ad. Is the kid suppose to be auditioning for being a shill on YouTube? Because they got plenty of those, mostly of the talentless hack variety on there already...

I couldn't agree more. We have a good mix of Apple and Windows devices in the house. My spouses' main computer is an older surface pro that she loves using. But it's Windows with all the good and bad that goes along with it. I bought a 7th gen ipad last year, and while certainly the use cases overlap, mostly in consumption the ipad wins for that hands down.

The surface wins in a lot of tasks, because well it's windows. I'm glad there are both in the world though.

As much as I dislike the Surface, I think I’d still take it over the iPad.

The Surface has better IO and an OS that isn’t so locked down that it’s completely useless to me.

if it was my only device I’d even take a $250 Walmart Special laptop over an iPad.

I have a HP EliteX2 issued from work and I really only use it as a laptop with a broken hinge. I have my own MBA and iPad Pro and while these are two separate devices, I like that each offers the most optimised version of the laptop / tablet experience there is. Rather than a hybrid device which does neither well.

still got my newton [my first ever Apple device and it still works - dog slow though !] but the Palm and HP Ipaq were definitely better. It was the stylus input and poor interface that let those down and tried to replicate windows too much rather than create a tablet os properly.
I can safely say the iphone was a gamechanger in my eyes, but really was a development on palm and pocket pc [and a much much better development].

I am expecting the same to happen with AR.

Also had the original surface to get back on topic. I liked that device but also relies on the stylus too much.

I will always remain an ipad and laptop guy until Apple make the 2in1 version with detatchable screen. Still my dream device!

iPad is superior as a tablet in general, but I agree with the dongle part, it's absolutely atrocious that donglegate.

No one has an iPad and not a Mac it’s a luxury tablet I use mine as a media player but I will never see iPad os as a computer
No one? Me - no personal Mac. My wife. My in-laws, my parents... my brother... I know we are a product of our environment, but recognize that you aren’t everyone.

For personal use, I seldom find a reason for a Mac anymore and I use affinity apps, do some video editing, etc etc. I personally have a work mac laptop but that’s more of a work requirement to separate work from personal stuff than a necessity. If they would have purchased an iPad for me, I probably could have made that work just as well.

Don’t over generalize.

LMAO I don't think that "donglegate 🙄" as you call it bothers anyone. Apparently the iPad Pro is extremely successful. It's so successful that Microsoft has to do a disparaging ad to get people off the iPad to buy the Surface. Obviously very few people even want a Surface. I see iPads in big corporations, restaurants, news stations, banks, hospitals, etc. I see the Surface nowhere but on an NFL football game sideline that Microsoft paid to force the coaches to use and shamelessly advertise the Surface by using a case with the name SURFACE on the back. M$ is a POS company.

What a ridiculous response. Also Apple did not compare any hardware. Those ads were about the OS's. But by all means bring up old irrelevant ads from over 10 years ago. It just shows that your sad argument has failed and you're reaching down to the bottom of the barrel looking for anything to defend poor old Microsoft. You can't bring up anything current so just stop. SMH.

So what if it was comparing OS's vs hardware? What's the difference? Comparing competition products is as old as advertising is, and Apple did it too. I happen to like both MS asnd Apple stuff. I'm typing on a $6500 maxed out Macbook Pro 16 right now.
