Ok well it’s not a complete system like macos or Windows it’s just icons and apps like I said I like mine but it’s just a big iPhone
Maybe when it came out, but not anymore. I use mine to hand write sheet music among other things. Can’t do that on the phone, or Mac.

One with icons that can be organized in little pictures of folders on a desktop, I’m guessing. :)
I’d be curious to know how many people use a Surface Pro without the keyboard or in portrait mode. Microsoft never shows the product without the keyboard or the kickstand or in portrait mode. I have a 12.9” iPad Pro with magic keyboard. I use it all the time. Obviously there are limitations with the device and it wouldn‘t be a desktop or laptop replacement for everyone, but for a lot of people it is. There isn’t one device that can be the perfect everything.

What Microsoft should have done....

See, with a Microsoft surface tablet, you can minimize your work, switch to something else, come back later and hey, it's still there ready for yout to finish, app doesn't suddenly 'forget itself'.

With an ipad, look lets minimize our work, switch to something else, but when you come back, oh look, app has reset itself and totally forgotten where you were at. Hope you saved that work somewhere else to pick back up.
Is this a real issue on iPads? I'd think it a major flaw of the app if it doesn't save your work when it receives a memory warning, or better yet, save it a few seconds after you make a change.

people switching to the iPad for a month and they end up going back to a laptop of some sort.
That was a foregone conclusion on a couple levels, though. if you have a system that is configured the way you like and it works for you, AND you try any other system that’s not configured the same, then of course you’re gonna go back to the system that you started with, or something like it. Also,“I tried to switch to iPad for a month… and this happened!!” is some of the tastiest click bait, ever! Just the ad views alone would pay for the iPad that was purchased, AND the reviewer can sell the iPad. Score!

people who can also afford to buy a laptop (or in rare cases, a desktop)**
To get a useful Surface though, it's WAY more than these silly ads let on. My Surface Pro 4 was nearly $2K. The $899 or whatever model it is they're talking about is so underpowered it's barely useful as a web browser, IMHO.

To give credit where credit is due, that kickstand is the best in the industry. I've looked for an iPad Pro case with a similar kickstand and have not found anything even close.

After my 2014 Macbook Pro broke down I bought a Surface tablet with keyboard. Boy was that a mistake. Windows is so slow and laggy and it is not optimised for touch input to the extent that iPad OS is. Brought it back. And now here I am clicking away on my 2018 Macbook Pro - all be it while deleting double e's and l's because of the infamous keyboard. Apple makes the best smartphones and tablets that are better than Android and Windows. While OS X is so underrated - it is light years ahead of Windows. Can't wait for the 2021 MacBook Pro 16 with the M1...

I use my Mac to edit photos. I definitely don’t want fingerprints all over it.

If I didn’t edit photos I can’t imagine a single reason I wouldn’t use my iPad Pro exclusively.

To be fair in defence to Microsoft the iPad is just a big iPhone it’s not a computer or full operating system where as surface is a computer
To be even fairer, the iPhone is a computer and with the split between iOS and iPadOS it is hard to even take a statement like this seriously. I'm not saying that iPadOS is the equivalent to MacOS or Windows but the number of users who would experience any meaningful limitations are shrinking with each OS update.

Me, too. I would guess that, since few applications on Windows are fully touch enabled, the majority use the device with a keyboard. From the developer’s perspective, they would probably tend to develop with a keyboard assumption as well, because they know that everyone either has one, or has access to one that they can connect to the Surface.

I would absolutely welcome a touchscreen on a future MacBook, specifically for instances where my “tablet brain” tries to tap, swipe, pinch, or zoom (reading documents, news, map manipulation). Maybe I need a full-featured desktop OS - but maybe my touch devices have also made me a little handsy.

It should have as much touch functionality as an iPhone and forgo any stylus support - it’s there when you (subconsciously) try to use it, but stays the hell out of the way otherwise. Sometimes your fingers do a better job than a mouse cursor.

My previous employer's IT department also deployed these to those of us in the field. They were worthless. Brand new and would over head, keyboards would intermittently just not work, and Surface would randomly restart. Its embarrassing that they are still trying to sell these things.
Same here. We deployed them department wide and within 6 months most people had returned them for a laptop (usually a Dell XPS model) and an iPad. While combining a tablet and a laptop into one device seems like a good idea, it just never did either job very well.

comments are turned off on microsoft youtube video. pretty much indicates that even microsoft is not confident in their own product when that happens.

I love my Surface Pro 7. i7, 16GB RAM, Windows. My Surface Pro 1 lasted 6 years and was effective for all 6.

I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max / beats flex. My only Apple ecosystem products.

Sorry Apple people, I’ve been using Windows since 1996, the Mac ecosystem just isn’t for me.
I have a Surface Pro 6. Two years on and still going strong. Recently but a Mac Mini M1. Its nice but I just wanted to see what all the fuss is about. You really cant compare games on Mac... at ALL. I do like the ecosystem in the Mac, but for our needs the Surface has been great and no issues that have been stated previously. I dont get the purpose of the iPad if you have an iPhone.

LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ad is too little too late. Microsoft got ROASTED for airing ad comparing MacBook Pro to surface to they scrambled to make this to compare Apple to Apples.

the ad STILL compares Apple to Oranges.

because ad FAILS To mention performance. Apple Silicon A12Z SMOKES what Surface has to offer. And they are only going to fall behind once A14X is announced in April.

plus, NO one wants to buy a tablet with a clunky and bloated operating system that is Windows. They want simple and easy to use OS like iPadOS where it’s straightforward and to the point.

You fail again Microsoft, you fail again. Come back when you have much more decent product. And stop bringing a kid to do a product comparison.

I think it’s more of a realization that there’s an army of Microsoft trolls, fingers at the ready for anything Microsoft related. The comments on a video such as this are fairly useless :)

I’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion here, but yes I would choose the surface pro IF I were looking for a single device solution. iPad is a better tablet by far, but even now, it’s a poor substitute for a computer with a desktop OS.
Opinion is opinion which is fine. But, if we're going to call the iPad Pro a poor substitute for a computer because it lacks a desktop OS. Then lets call a spade a spade - the Surface Pro tablet is a poor computer and a poor tablet because it's trying to cater to both. Now, there *is* a niche for it. But, only that. It's had nearly 10 whole years, a decade, to prove or improve itself otherwise. If was anything more then niche - it'd have at least dented iPad or PC laptop sales.

Imagine having products so good that your competitors constantly produce comparison commercials.
That’s precisely where my head goes. Apple currently poses no real threat to either Intel or Microsoft BUT both must see something in their numbers that indicate that it’s wise for them to put out ads such as these at this time.

I really like the concept of the Surface... but the iPad is just immensely better as a tablet. That kinda forces me into having a tablet plus a computer.

Though, it's also made my choice of computer easier. I don't need to consider tradeoffs of laptop vs desktop anymore. I just use the tablet and can get a desktop instead.

the surface is basically a mediocre laptop that can be used as a tablet but as a tablet it’s pretty awful.

the iPad Pro is a great tablet with currently mediocre laptop functionality but with a lot of growth potential in that regard.
There is only so much "growth potential" one is willing to wait for. I've been waiting since iPad 2 and it still isn't there. It's a great consumption device and some work can be done on it, just not MY work.
