The iPad 1 was a real Apple innovation, and it was a product for a market that didn't exist at the time. It created the market. I think investors and the public, in general, knows where the 5S and 5C stand. The market already exists, is mature and is saturated with regurgitated phone hardware. The 5S and 5C just add to it.
If it's a product that is in demand, there is nothing wrong with improving it and keep the market flowing. In your sig, you have a 2012 MBP. Laptops have been out for at least a decade or two, so it's not a new concept, except better technology and design in general. Why do companies keep advertising and selling newer versions of their laptops? The Apple I or II was the real innovation, but why do we keep buying desktops and laptops with better specs? It's for improved performance and capabilities. The same can be said for the iPods, iPhones, cars, and so on.
As for Microsoft, I wouldn't give much hope for them. They did the same crap with Windows ME, Vista, just ads and campaigns and no real improvements. It'll pass by and no one will miss it. Microsoft have no discipline and consistencies in quality products. The only reason why they are still alive is because of business contracts where they could use their OS on other companies' products. They're a cash cow but have no idea how to use their money effectively and efficiently. What a waste. They should focus on restructuring their business and be a company that can come out with great products. It's easier to slack off and make fun of others as a way to defend yourself if you have no discipline.
