One of the first rules of sales I was taught:

Avoid criticising your competitors, it just reflects badly on yourself.

I was 17 when I was taught that.

I think it just really shows the whole market leader/market follower dynamic. Negative ads against competitors, or comparison ads, are only done by market followers, trying to chisel off a piece of the market leader's share. Market leaders should never mention the competition.

Samsung could pull teasing apple as they have more parity in their comparable devices

Microsoft is a distant third place! Who are they kidding

I got one or two "I guess that's funny" chuckles between all the videos combined.

Regardless of the possible tasteless portrayal of Jobs, these are just simply pathetic and not humorous for the most part. All of that on top of not giving you a single reason to "switch".

Yeah, very funny, hilarious even that you're talking bull to some guy who's been made up to resemble a dead guy, my sides are literally splitting.

But which of the two companies has a warehouse full of Surface tablets they can't freaking sell?

That's even funnier.

Very funny indeed. :p

About the 5c: at one point in the ad they say "Will they tell people it's plastic? No." Then like 15 seconds later they talk about how Apple will tell people about the plastic. What? Also, Apple specifically says its "unapologetically plastic."

Just.. dumb.

Actually it kind of reminds me of the GET A MAC adds where if you were 'cool' you get a Mac and if you are not, well....you know the rest.

SJ was a great business man and visionary but he was not a god. And how he used his marketing skills is the stuffs of legends so he is fair game. Microsoft is in a full spin-out and they are trying anything they can to resonate with new customers. From a marketing perspective, I get it. But I'm not sure new customers will.

BTW, the iphone 5C and S and the announcements this week, in general, were, weak. Colored phones is innovative? Wow! How far APPLE has fallen. So Apple has brought this upon themselves.

----------
iP5, MBP, iMac, Apple TV

Um, when's the last time Apple ran one of those Mac vs PC ads? 2008 or 2009? Also when did Apple ever claim colored phones were "innovative"?

I don't have so much of an issue with the dialogue of the video, as I do think Apple has strained to remain innovative lately, but I agree with MR in thinking the placement of guy with his back to the camera in this video is done in extremely poor taste.

I think it's obviously meant to be Steve, from the hair coloring to Steve's signature black t-shirt (I've never seen Tim in a black t-shirt). And maybe I'm the only one seeing this as it hasn't been pointed out yet, but I even find the actor to be slightly emaciated, as Steve was shown to be in his later PR events. If this actor was cast with that intention then that is despicable, and I find it very unlikely that it was just a coincidence.

Like Apple products, but don't think they're always right. For instance, i think the pricing of the 5c is at least 100$ above what it should be.

This said, what Microsoft has done is beyond pathetic. So much i can't believe this is coming from a company as big as that.
Someone, somewhere must have realized that portraying an universal recognized and respected icon like Jobs, who is dead, as an idiot, is not the smartest of the moves.

Someone should be fired over this.

So much defense for a person you never knew....

Either way, there is no guarantee that the executive portray in the video is SJ. Even if it is, I see it as a metaphor... the entire clip is full of sarcasm.

What?

So i must defend only people I personaly know? Whats wrong with you?

Its look like Steve too much to be a coincidence.

You see what metaphor? Its called lack of respect, and Apple have never made fun with any person in their ads.

Whta is innvoative for you? A time machine? 4D reality display? The innovation is in the small things, but this time Apple passed themself. 64bit CPU in mobile device, fingerprint sensor integrated in a button with saphire glass cover to mention a few.

"Innovative" means making a phablet like everyone else. /sarc

I'd say the A7, M7, fingerprint sensor, and camera upgrades are pretty aggressive for a mid-cycle update, which is what the "S" series phones are. It's funny how a lot of folks don't like being on the "S" cycle, but I actually prefer it - I get some of the big features later than others, but by the time I get them, I also get something with next-gen internals to go with them.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months?

Among other things

iOS 7
Mavericks
Mac Pro
Two new iPhones
Several content deals for the Apple TV
New AirPort Extreme
Scored a huge iPad us deal with the second biggest public school district in the US
Etc

Very likely as yet announced
New laptops,
New desktops
New displays
New Apple TV
New iWork, iLife
New iPads
Even more content

What has Microsoft done?
Seems like only taken a loss on no sales with their Surface and 'retired' their CEO

The comments in here are biased. You're either a lover or a hater. Hardly anyone comments here with a level head. Just read the YouTube comments to see what the general public is thinking, they all hate the ads. Think they're tasteless and not funny.

Love this commercial

Awesome !!!!

microsoft has posted seven new videos to its windows phone youtube page, as part of a new series it calls 'a fly on the wall in cupertino'.

The ads purport to show iphone 5c and 5s product pitch meetings with characters that bear a striking resemblance to steve jobs and jony ive, though the jobs-esque character is called tim several times.

youtube: video
if the executive in the videos is intended to resemble steve jobs, then they would appear to be in very poor taste. It's not at all clear how the videos -- which don't ever explain how windows phone is better than ios -- help microsoft achieve its stated goal of getting users to switch to its platform.

- a fly on the wall in cupertino
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: Colours
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: Polycarbonate
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: Innovative materials
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: The phone for everyone
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: Fingerprint reader
- a fly on the wall in cupertino: 8-megapixel camera

Those are funny as hell, but I'm not sure that they work well as a means of advertising. If they were to be available only in streaming mode on YouTube, that might be best.

The changing shirt colors was a very funny touch, brilliant even, given how it subtly reinforced the theme.

Taking the low road with one attack ad after another just makes a company or individual look outclassed and desperate. MS used to take the high road with their advertising and this just makes them look washed up.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months? But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves like nice little iSheep. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

Innovate (according to the dictionary): make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products

New iPhone has a fingerprint sensor. The Atrix had it, but it was nowhere nearly as popular as this. This may make passwords irrelevant in the future, as people will be forced to come up with something better. Kind of likewhat people are doing with Siri.

iOS 7: Fits nicely with the definition. As well as a (polarising) aesthetic makeover, it has a boatload of new APIs and features.

Improved camera: There have been huge strides with the underlying software and the ISP in the 5s, as well as the improved sensor/optics. Apple just don't market them as aggressively.

M7 chip: Has a lot of nice stuff apple didn't make a lot of noise about. Has a lot of the contextual computing of the Moto X, but apple didn't make as much noise about it as they did.

Moreover you still regard them as "not bad" phones. So why the hell do you insult them by calling them "iSheep"? If people should only purchase devices that only conform to your definition of "innovate", then every single person buying a phone in these past few years should also be insulted in a similar manner.
