Do they show anything but the back of the head? If that's the case it's a bit silly to claim "striking resemblance" when you don't see their faces at all.

The first executive could be impersonating Tim, but he also closely resembles how Steve Jobs began to look as his health declined.

These videos are just done in such poor taste, they should be pulled immediately. Shame on them.

One of the things about that clip that stands out to me is the implication that they could do so much better. And the wish that they would. Not that they would fail, but that they would succeed better.

This is the story of Microsoft's entire existence.
So much potential. So many billions wasted. Such crappy products.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months? But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves like nice little iSheep. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

Hahaha, its funny because it is true...

I think the Guy who is suppose to be Tim, looks like steve because is just a metaphor. Everyone wants Tim to be Steve...

Hey guys, sorry but slightly off topic question...how do you like working for samsung...I mean is it cool? Can you wear jeans to work? Oooh, better yet....do they allow nerf gun wars in the office?

Let's say for a moment that their phones aren't innovative. Then, what Apple has been doing is keeping their massive ecosystem alive, without any broken links since their first phone release, and with solid, incremental progress. They have a consistent message and consistently better design than other manufacturers. Those are reasons enough, and no one else is doing it.

What phones are innovative these days?

- Making a screen bigger isn't innovation.
- Using a better camera isn't innovation

The retina displays were the last innovative thing that has happened to any smart phone, even that can be considered to be not more than a spec bump.

Prior to that, the App Store was the most innovative thing ever to be introduced to phones. Even the original iPhone could be considered as being not more than a huge improvement over existing smartphones. The App store made the phone functional in ways that even Apple didn't dream about. That was innovation.

Smartphones have moved beyond innovation stage and will see little more than spec bumps for a long, long time.

Well has there been a more 'innovative' phone since the iPhone was introduced 5 years ago? I'd say no. Maybe UI / software has changed, but in terms of actual phone... probably not.

So what innovation would you like to see? I think the fingerprint sensor is huge for people that want hassle free security. As well as corporations that want some sense of security with their phones.

And I think the M7 is brilliant and with good implementation it can be a game changer.

Then again Samsung's poorly executed "innovations" (eye scroll that doesn't work well, bigger screens, etc.) are not really innovations. And MS has 0 innovations other than a FUGLY UI in Windows Phone 7/8/whatever.

What Apple doesn't do is bring out 1/2 baked innovations....

I don't understand what is so questionable in this.

Just because M$ does not have better phone does not mean that they cannot make fun of Apple strategy.

It's like common public complaining about how Lebron is/was not clutch etc. even though they have never held the basketball in their hands.

People need to lighten up. Pretty funny ad. This was no knock at Jobs at all. The ad said Tim and in a Youtube ad like this, they weren't about to search for the best Cook look a like possible. 99% of the people who will watch this ad realize Jobs passed away so its taken for a given its not him. Most people don't even know who the new Apple CEO is and yes Cook often does dress in black somewhat similar to Jobs. And he is pretty thin himself.

Apple does deserved to be bashed for STILL not coming up with a good midrange phone in the $399 to $449 price range. I'm an Apple shareholder that has made a good chunk of change on my Apple shares but until they come up with such a phone, they will continue to lose market share to Android and yes Windows phone. Windows phone is already doing better then some people think internationally and looks like it may gain further ground next year as well.

It's understandable that Apple doesn't want to compete with an excellent entry level phone such as the Nokia Lumia 521 with Windows 8 at $124 but not competing in the $399 to $449 price range with a darn good up to date phone is taking your customers for granted. The ad points this out.

And before folks say iPhone 4s, it should have at least been updated to LTE and had a few more upgrades if they were going to still try and charge $450 for it.

People should be applauding Microsoft and Google since quite frankly those companies are preventing Apple from trying to charge even more for their products.

Windows phone market share is increasing in some European markets and in Mexico, while shrinking in China and stagnant in the US. Nokia finally managed to gain momentum in smartphone sales, and it's up to Microsoft to keep that trend alive. Their current performance in devices doesn't lend itself to that at the moment, but only time will tell.

These ads are extraordinary. I can't believe any company, let alone one of the size and professed importance of Microsoft, would have authorised them.

They really do seem to be the sort of thing you expect spotty teenagers to release onto YouTube. Most bizarre.

The guy talking is a Mac user

The actor making the pitches is Luke Burbank. He has a podcast called TBTL which I listen to regularly. He uses entirely Apple tech products. He frequently references his iPhone, iPod, Mac laptop, etc. He does frequently berate iTunes (rightfully so), but other than that he is entirely an Apple fan.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of writing that. I think a lot of people underestimate the potential of the M7 chip; I think it's gonna be crazy interesting how the CoreMotion API is used.

And in light of that 64-bit processor? Seriously, Apple is paving the way for some exciting things.

People are just complaining the 64-bit is just a waste of time. But 64-bit addressing is not the only advantage to it. There are several benefits that ARMv8 provides, such as more registers, etc. And some special types of calculations will be naturally faster with 64-bit register.

I laughed at the ad. Its funny. I don't care if it's true or not, it's funny to me.

Considering its the first ever, I think the 64 bit processor is more than a "spec-bump".

On topic: Sad commercial. I'll stick to just a ps4 this fall.

charts.dll.gif

Ten year stock performance - AAPL vs MSFT. MSFT is that yellow line at the bottom of the chart (squint to see it).

And they are trying to raise the question of "innovation?"

Amazing. Not only are they good at making embarassing phones, they're also good at making embarassing ads to promote the phones. Keep up the great work, Microsoft!

Is Apple really Microsoft's biggest competitor? I would argue not. It is clearly Android. If MS wants to have any relevance it has to convince people buying bargain phones to buy MS phones instead of Android phones. There really is only one brand that competes with iPhone in the premium smartphone space and that is Samsung. The people that will spend money on a new phone will most likely either buy an iPhone or a Galaxy S4.

Apple should make a commercial called Developers. Queue the Balmer Developers, Developers, Developers video. But whoops, where are the developers? Windows phone is still a dumpster baby.

They didn't try to find a Cook look like. Which is why that guy looks nothing like him.

But he bears an uncanny resemblance to Steve. So much so that it is unlikely it was an accident. Nor was it an accident how they framed the shots in such a crappy way in order to make sure that head dominated the frame.

1 year later, major update is to the color and an expensive downgrade to plastic
And the world's first mobile 64-bit chip, motion co-chip, fingerprint scanner, dual warm/cold LED, and a better camera. For being an incremental "S" upgrade, those aren't minor upgrades. For the 5C, yes ... it's pretty much an iPhone 5 with multi-color polycarbonate casing and a better battery ... but the 5C isn't the phone with the big updates. "All they did in one year was make more colors" is a really stupid statement.
