I also keep windoze XP in a VM running on Fusion ( unfortunately I have some legacy Access DB applications I still need). I noticed that XP runs better in a VM on my Mac then stand alone!
...

By definition, XP under in a virtual environment cannot run faster than "stand alone". I don't know what kind of PC you had before, but it was obviously much slower than your new iMac.

Even if you run Windows by Boot Camp, it will be faster than running it on Fusion.

OK - so buy a PC. Then replace the tower unit if you want to upgrade and were too dumb to buy something with a simple upgrade path.

Or buy an iMac - and then a year later replace the whole thing including the 27" display.

Are you insane?

Well, by "replace" you generally mean "sell", right? So you could sell the iMac or tower, but you'd fetch correspondingly different prices for both.

Shall I go on?

You could go on, but you still haven't proved your accusation. I don't see where these ads say Windows can't do some of the things you are talking about, they simply argue that Macs do them better (yeah, companies tend to hype the merits of their own products in advertising - it's true!).

You're honestly going to argue that what you get out of the box with Windows compares to iMovie and iWeb on the Mac? Really? Particularly at the time these commercials aired? Please.

Yes, you may want to acknowledge that many of these ads pre-date some of the Windows (or PC) features you cite in your arguments. When the iSight camera ad was running, for example, PC laptops generally did not have built-in webcams. The ad was perfectly true at the time it aired.

Furthermore, the inference that Mac's are 100% trouble free is simply an outright lie.

The inference is yours. Apple never said it - nor implied it.

How can something be a lie if you don't even say it???

If any of these ads were the blatant lies you (and others) assert, Microsoft (or PC manufacturers) would have sued Apple for false advertising years ago. Period. No company is going to put up with a competitor blatantly lying about its products on prime-time television. Do you know why they didn't sue? Because they didn't have a valid, legitimate, legal argument. Just like you.

Microsoft didn't sue because there was a painful truth about their own (or their partners') products in every one of those ads. And that's why they were effective. And that's why the Microsoft apologists hate them so badly.

Your argument simply doesn't stand up to legal scrutiny.

This is great news for Apple, and for consumers. It's much worse to be ignored, but with this, MS is conceding people have a choice, and putting forward what they believe are the advantages of staying with a Windows PC. It's all basically a big message saying 'please don't switch!!' Excellent. Of course us mac users will find many of the points silly or outright misleading, but it's clearly aimed at preventing switchers, which means they are worried about that happening.

Since 05 I've been between the OSX platform and windows platform. Up to now, I always had a custom built windows pc and a mac laptop. I recently spilled water on my 13" MBP and broke it. So now I got an Alienware M11x to replace it. I am completely mac free now, and I don't mind thanks to windows 7. And in fact, I enjoy using windows 7 more than OSX and I like all the perks of greater hardware compatibility and greater software selection.

Liars!

They LIE! "Intuitive, familiar, and easy to use, PCs do what you want: they just work." Only if 22 error messages counts as "working"! It took me 20 minutes to get iTunes installed on my friends pc, and mac it takes 30 sec.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I <3 :apple:

Oh I'm sorry sir, I think you're in the wrong forums this is a Mac forum, not a windows users in denial convention.

Safari for Windows also sucks. Do you blame Windows for that too or should you blame the developer of these applications?

Many anti-Mac people on this forum today??

Hi Guys,

Maybe i'm being paranoid, but there is unusually high amount of people who "owned mac 14 years ago", or "tried macs and didn't like them" on this forum today...

Weird, bearing in mind it'a MacRumors...

Microsoft PR machine working? :)

I love Mac errors like "The file cannot be copied because the file cannot be copied", or how about "The file cannot be modified because the file cannot be modified."

Windows 7 just makes sense. Its faster (even on macs compared to osx), its sleeker, its less obtrusive, its intuitive and its more compatible. Its also a helluva lot more powerful. I can do so much more with my OS than Mac fanboys can. Hell, its even easier for me to just maximize a windows to view it at fullscreen. I love the way explorer works compared to macs convuluted version. I like that I can even move my taskbar to be where ever the heck I want. I love being able to drag files to a CD/DVD and simply clicking "burn to disc".

I also love being able to use whatever hardware I want and not having to worry about my OS supporting it. Thats so important to someone who wants speed out of their PC without waiting 6 months to a year for a full system replacement to come on the market. I also think its great how an open ended hardware system creates competition in the market instead of leaving it potentially stale if OSX took over.

Isn't it great that Windows 7 is also very touch screen friendly? Man, who woulda thunk that Windows 7 would be more compatible than a mac for touch screen when Apple created such great devices as the iPad and iPhone.

Also, I love that it doesn't come with iTunes! iTunes blows. I know its a minor annoyance, but its great that not everything on Windows has an "i" in front of it.

If you were to create 2 countries, one for mac, and one for pc, you'd find that even though the pc country outnumbers mac by more than 10 to 1, they would be quiet. We windows users are too busy using our PC's to constantly insult the other. You guys spend most of your time in forums thinking of ways to defend your stupid waste of money so you don't have to feel so bad. Its ok, you made a mistake, your next PC can have windows on it.

And best of all, even though there are vastly more windows fans than mac fans... there are less windows fanboys to deal with than mac ones.

Last, but not least.... I win.

I am confused as why you are taking everything so personal? In the end, they're just products to get work done. It's not like you had a say in creating either one of them

Also, you don't need to own a Mac to post on these forums, and it still doesn't change the fact that this forum isn't about macs only. I own an iPhone, iPad, and an iPod, aren't there forums for them here? I believe there's also a forum for windows.

Instead of getting offended by people's views on computers and what platform they use, learn to respect that people have different reasons for being on a particular platform.

Wait a little bit and *LTD* will also come. He/she then will tell you that "Winblows is trash, LOL".

Bingo! You got it. Microsoft has lots of people who roam the Web and post messages wherever they think the company needs defending. MacRumors is no exception, and that's why you have to wade through lots of Windows lies here.

Here's my bottom line on PCs versus Macs as someone who is not being paid to say anything here, has been using PCs my entire adult life, switched to Macs as home a decade ago:

Both can work fine for you, depending on your needs. Windows has gotten better, but mostly is not quite as unified and nice as OS X, but it does the job. Viruses exists for Windows, but are pretty much under control with anti-virus programs. Blue screen of death is no longer true for most users.

BUT, and this is important, the PC market is in a race to the bottom in terms of costs and profit, and that means the boxes get cheaper UNLESS you pay to get a better box like Alienware.

Safari for Windows also sucks. Do you blame Windows for that too or should you blame the developer of these applications?

And Internet Explorer for Mac OS X also sucks. And I still haven't forgiven windows for my horrible experience for XP. I don't care if its better, there bad reputation sticks. Also there costumer service sucks. There is no "windows store" all across the world! I want a 1,000 dollar powerful computer with a person I can talk to in person for support. Enough said.

unless your pc is not hooked up to the net, and use it solely to work.
pretty much what I do.

manual updates, no antivirus or firewalls draining any resources few as they may be,

So you've posted this from a Mac?:D
More seriously, last time I checked, a lot of people DO need to be connected to the Internet to, you know, work.

4 simple facts:

1) Mac can run both OS X AND Windows.... PCs don't

2) We see lot of PC users that want to switch to Mac... We never saw anyone that *want* to switch back to PC.... there's surely a reason.

3) Apple really leads the market.... Microsoft doesn't have a "bit" of creativity and always copy what Apple does... (look: OS X, iPod, iPhone, iPad, ...)

4) Steve Jobs could sell you sand in the middle of the Desert.... Steve Ballmer is just a douch*** that probably can't even convinced himself to use his products.

Well said my friend, well said.
If any of you don't like what he has to say then don't read it.

I have - you just don't want to hear it. Fair enough - blinkered fanatics to a brand will often not let facts and evidence get in the way.

So submit your vast amount of "facts and evidence" to Microsoft and argue for a slander and false advertising lawsuit against Apple. Then take your cut of the settlement. Microsoft will be thrilled to see all the blatant lies you've uncovered that will make for an airtight case. You could have saved them years of public prime-time humiliation had only you spoken up sooner. I can't believe their legal department didn't think of this first.

Please keep us in the loop.
