I used to be a Mac user for about 14 years (before they were cool), I have now switched to mostly using Windows as my main computer. I now just build my own computer every year or so. I play a lot of games so I always get the latest gfx cards which apple dont offer. I was also a bit disappoint with how the build quality of Apple products has gone so low. My newtons and 68k performa still work but my friends iphones, ipods and mac books were breaking all over the place. We still have an imac in my house but I dont use it much. I do think Windows 7 is much quicker than OS X and a lot easier to use now. I have never had a virus on my pc because I dont do silly things with my computer. I remember on Mac OS 7 getting a virus and using Virex to remove it

Why waste the electronic ink writing this post? Why are you even here? You've switched back to Windows, you're happy with it so good for you. Why come on a Mac forum to share this like anyone would really care much? Interesting you registered here just to post that. Sounds like your company pays pretty good?

I my company we lock down the desktops. If anyone have a work related argument for why they should be local administrators, we oblige.

We would really hate users that try to hack themselves out of the restrictions instead of coming to talk to us. In fact, they might even get fired.

Funny how you people think you rule the business world. I'm going to go vomit, now.

That is your argument? You do know the reason viruses on Apples are rare is because most hackers don't bother with OSX because of the smaller user base.

This comment always amuses me. So how many hackers have you talked with that said..."Yo bro, there aint that many max i mean macs out there, i dont want to waste my time trying to hack OS X" And if you think about it...And the viruses that Macs (not apples) get are so rare i have never even heard of any...:apple:

LOL man all these dumb ass windows loving comments are crazy...its amazing the amount of windows lovers that are on a MAC rumors site....how many windows rumors sites are there that MAC users are all over?? windowsrumor.balls? This is supposed to be OUR site, so all you windows kids get the ****** out of here. MS PC vs MAC site is seriously hilarious...color options....different working mouse...SECURE/SIMPLE sharing....blu-ray.....lol come on...all of that stuff is for the little old lady reading it...saying...wow that does sound a lot better...not sure what they mean by mouse working differently...a mouse scrolls...clicks left and right...moves from one side of the screen to the other...oh..maybe they mean it works different because on a magic mouse you have multi-touch gestures (I.E. two finger swipe to go back or forward pages, pinch to resize photos, two finger twist and rotate for photos just to name a few) and a PC mouse just moves the cursor and clicks...gotcha MS now i get it! lets see...secure...i dont think anyone in their right mind could ever say windows does anything secure. its KIND OF secure if you bundle your 3rd party antivirus software, but thats not windows...and simple?? I have had a PC for nearly 18 years and never have i set up file sharing...the day i had a MAC i started file sharing instantly...and color options..what color options for windows computers do they give...im not saying dell hp asus acer...WINDOWS. so they can leave the cosmetics out of this statement they are making because the one piece of hardware they make is black or white. Unless you go with a few special editon ones like the Halo 360....overall...MS is a serious joke...and its great that way...:apple:

So you are suggesting that I am an Apple hater just because I disagree with your point?!

Nope, I said you were pulling a play from their typical playbook.

You called me 'comrade' and 'Amirite'? Are you suggesting that I'm smug?

"Amirite" means "am I right?" As for smug, you're condescending (and insulting) about people's cars, apartments and furniture while mocking their personal choice of computing platform, implying your priorities should be their own. Seems smug to me - and hypocritical. Not so?

Maybe some people would rather have a nice computer than a nice sofa? (I know I would.) And if so, who are you to say it's misguided?

You obviously have a personal issue with me and I am getting tired of your continuous insults.

Not at all. I have a problem with many of your arguments (and your endless anti-Apple sour grapes commentary on an Apple users' forum) - and I respond to them directly. I have no problem with you personally, nor do I throw personal insults at you (despite your accusations to the contrary). But if you're going to accuse a group of computer users of pretentiousness while simultaneously displaying a level of pretentiousness while doing so, well, shouldn't you be called out for it?

It's unfair to respond to valid counterarguments to your points with the "personal issue" and "personal insults" accusations. It's a defensive reaction and a copout.

As for "cleverly" cutting your comments - there was nothing "clever" (or devious) about it. I was quoting the specific arguments I was responding to. I didn't change your wording. I left your sentences intact. The implication that I am distorting the points you were making is inaccurate and unfair.

Let's just consider ourselves to be on the other's Ignore list from now on, hmm?

Actual quote from the site:

Things just don't work the same way on Macs if you're used to a PC. For example, the mouse works differently. And many of the shortcuts you're familiar with don't work the same way on a Mac

What? :D Microsoft should stick to the "more-of-everything" argument because in terms of simplicity and quality software, Windows 7 CANNOT compete with Snow Leopard and they shouldn't even try. A couple of those arguments are pretty shady, too. Like saying using Apple's office suite could lead to compatibility issues, while true in some cases, Microsoft forgot to mention you could just use Microsoft Office for Mac.

So on the right-hand-side of the page there is this scrolling thing showing "what all the buzz is about". Apparently they are gleaming anything "Win7" or "Windows 7" from Twitter and such.

My favorites are highlighted there..... "Finally managed to fix all the problems...." and "unresponsiveness is progressing....".

I keep hearing this accusation from the Winbot horde yet no one ever mentions any specific examples.

Please, point out a single lie found in any one of these Apple commercials. Seriously. Back up your argument with a fact. We're waiting.

Grow up. 'Winbot horde'. Seriously. I use OSX and XP and Win 7 daily. I'm not a blinkered ' bot ' for anything.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN_Y6yyqvS8&feature=channel is just pure crap

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezQ247u_7uw&feature=channel - again - pure crap - making movies websites and photobooks is just as easy on a PC.

You can make photobooks on something other than a Mac you know
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aUFkMP-LyI&feature=channel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzEtRrZVFIQ&feature=channel
Magsafe actualyl pulled my UBMB straight off a table when I accidentally stood on the cable. And PC's come with built in webcams as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-a4t-YuloNg&feature=channel - this is just a lie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe9o-LVZDrU&feature=channel PC's can do movies, music, podcasts and ' fun stuff like that'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxOIebkmrqs&feature=related this is a lie - my experience with Vista ( and to be fair, it was a piece of crap in general ) is that having turned of UAC, it asked for my password exactly as often as a Mac would

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci2D1ig4df4&feature=related Absolute pure crap - you didn't need a faster graphcis card for Vista.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU9EflLJuf8&feature=related - err - what the HELL is this about. Digital camera. USB cable> photos off. Trying to infer that a new digital camera won't work on a PC. PURE crap and nothing else. Moreover, Mac support for HDD/SSD based HD camcorder codecs was WAY behind last time I bothered trying.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpOvzGiheOM&feature=related - so Apple never made promises about future OS's? Yeah right.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rclBZ6ffHQ&feature=related - I have had more freezing and crashing with OSX than XP or Win 7

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-byd3bPXawo&feature=related - Funny- there was a complaint that forced Apple to add legal copy to their disgustingly misleading iPhone Ads in the UK. Furthermore, the inference that Mac's are 100% trouble free is simply an outright lie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1NV58ZL1lE&feature=related What the hell? Moaning about an advertising budget IN AN ADVERT - an advert that's part of a very very long and therefore very expensive advert campaign? Really?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWLfEVGwjrA&feature=related See above. Microsoft spent $300M advertising Vista. Apples advertising budget is more than 50% more than that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV9f6RJKDeU&feature=related - umm - you can do all the things Mac is trying to say only it can do - on a PC. And you can do all he things Mac derided PC for doing...on a Mac.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYHTWLN2VyE&NR=1 That's right - you might get an error message on a PC. The Mac'll just keep you guessing with a beachball. And burn your lap because the machine gets up to 75 deg C on the bottom because you're on Youtube for 15 minutes ( personal experience )\

Shall I go on?

My point is this - Mac, PC - they're just tools. Neither is better. Neither 'wins'. Some a better for some things. Some are better for others. If any hardcore Apple fans in this place object to these Microsoft adverts... grow up. They're nothing like as misleading as Apple's campaign of misinformation was for years and years.

Good for you. Maybe the reason IT people don't like you is because you're exceptionally rude?

Doubt it. Because I'm generally not exceptionally rude. Mostly I'm just trying to get work done. And they try to prevent that.

And all the ones that don't like me have one reason: I like Macs. (different topic)

Let's just consider ourselves to be on the other's Ignore list from now on, hmm?

Deal! I just can't be bothered to respond to these comments. I also suspect that you took some part of my comment far to personal. I wonder why.

Anyway, do whatever you want. You are not one of 'those' guys, are you? Have you got low ceilings? Do you rent while being middle-aged and single? Have you got an old Mac that you bought second-hand? Enjoy your own medicine! You haven't actually thought that Apple Inc's success substitutes one's personal failure, have you?!

You've definitely hit on my general sentiments in the whole debate. In a perfect world, I guess I would have the Mac OS X interface with all of the universal compatibility of Windows. And if anyone tells me to run Windows within my Mac OS, please don't waste the effort.

BUT, when it comes to desktops, I would never be caught dead buying a Mac for myself. Again, someone else might be okay with an iMac, but the way I see it, buying an iMac is like buying a new car. As soon as you drive it off the lot, it's obsolete. With a PC tower, you can upgrade EVERYTHING and do it for a fraction of the cost of building a new computer. That's the kind of freedom Windows (and Linux) machines grant you, and I think that's a pretty sweet deal. So, like you said...both OSes have their purposes. This isn't an 'either-or' scenario.

I agree with your first point / paragraph, and your second about build/durability.

BUT your third point concerning the ability to upgrade everything????

True, a PC builder can build a new machine each year, but an Apple consumer can buy a new Mac each year. Suggesting the analogy of a car being instantly obsolete? You may upgrade your PC's video card, but a processor switch might not fit the motherboard's socket if it's 'new architecture', and swapping out the motherboard for the next generation might be like changing the chassis on a vehicle - not practical unless you're doing 'like for like', so where then is the gain? The point I'm trying to make, the suggestion of 'infinite upgradability' is 'worse' than buying a new 'next generation' machine each year.

Comprenez-vous?

Wow, you last had a virus on a Mac what, 9 operating system versions ago? Over 15 years ago? Wow, that is almost as long as MS plans to support XP.

Frankly, use what you want. Apple always paints their products in the best light, as did MS. IMHO, I find the MS claims to be more outrageous than Apple's but that is my opinion. Years ago, I wanted to convert people because I loved Macs and wanted the company to survive. It is clear for the foreseeable future, Apple will be doing just fine. If you don't like Macs, fine live on Windows competition is great. If you are a family member, get your ass on a Mac as I'm tired of the phone calls helping you fix constant problems on your Windows machine. Family is all I care about converting to Mac now.

OK - so buy a PC. Then replace the tower unit if you want to upgrade and were too dumb to buy something with a simple upgrade path.

Or buy an iMac - and then a year later replace the whole thing including the 27" display.

Are you insane?

Wow, this did exactly what MS wanted to do. Give something for PC users to say to their mac friends and really, really tick off mac users.

MS just pwned everyone.

Now I am a Mac user. I am sure there will features that I am missing out on. But it works and it hasn't crashed once, only occasional programme. I am not a gamer, just the occassional poker. I love my Mac and I am never going back to that horrid windows experience!

Ditto! I've been a windoze user from windoze 3.1 to XP. After dealing with crappy windoze for 2 decades I decided enough was enough. My family and I converted to Mac's last October. My first Mac was the C2D 27" iMac. I then added a few more Apple products over the next several months. I wish I would have switched long ago. Since having my Mac, I have spent zero minutes on trouble shooting. Everything just works!

I was in Best Buy the other day and I overheard an elderly couple describing a windoze issue they were having ( no surprise there) and listening to the geek squad agent confuse them with windoze jargon. I felt their pain because I was once there. It is so nice to not spend an entire day doing a clean install on a corrupted windoze OS. Plus the bonus is Macs look elegant!

I also keep windoze XP in a VM running on Fusion ( unfortunately I have some legacy Access DB applications I still need). I noticed that XP runs better in a VM on my Mac then stand alone!

Here is my summary of windoze, [Enter Luke Skywalker from Star Wars Episode 4 upon first seeing the Millennium Falcon] "What a piece of junk!"

Microsoft, for all their faults is working very hard on Windows.... Windows 8/snip/

What's Apple doing on the OSX platform?

It's a secret.

Why not even a mention of OSX at WWDC?

Read above.

Why all this hate from Steve Jobs for computers or as he calls them, "Trucks"?

Because He can. (notice the capital H)

Why did apple get rid of their 'Get a mac' campaign and replace it with...NOTHING? Surely not everyone at Apple is working on the ipad and iphone?

Because probably Steve said so, it was boring him, and he thought ahead of the group. Most likely he thought, if this was boring him, imaging how much it was boring the world.

You're way ahead for now Apple... but I wouldn't rest on your laurels

Apple's Moshe's is going to get you...
