That almost an oxymoron, since their x86 line of products is pure stay away from it junk.

I wonder if Apple will make it an 8th straight year.

Windows 8 may be awesome, and you surely can see their interface is unique, but when will Microsoft stop showing half-baked products before they are done? Why not show people things when they actually exist?

In one year, we will likely be speculating about the iPad 4 and iPhone 6, using iOS 6 betas and who knows what else. Not to mention, how many iPad 3s and iPhone 5s will Apple have sold by then? Windows 8 will no doubt be a huge desktop success, but I have a feeling their repeated attempts at catchup is the mobile world will fall short, no matter how cool Window 8 turns out to be.

I can't find the sample size for this.

So why even bother putting it on a tablet?
Because of the convergence argument. I really dislike a lot of devices that does almost the same. Sometimes, we're carrying together more than one: smartphone, tablet and laptop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt these tablets have the necessary hardware to make drawing with a stylus work better than a wacom tablet.
It's ok not being better. You could use a wacom tablet if you wanted. Apple is the king of not using state-of-the-art hardware and it is successful. That is the same as saying an Apple Cinema Display is worse than an Eizo high-end display. This doesn't make ACD useless.

No, scrolling is not the problem as people rarely use the UI interface elements to scroll (they instead either use gestures or dedicated hardware such as scroll wheels). I'm talking about things like the close window button or menus (notice how they don't do any of that stuff during the demo videos). The Aero UI just does not have enough space to make up for the loss of pixel accuracy in a touch interface. And a touch interface wastes a huge amount of space in a mouse driven interface.

You're being pessimist. HP has already made touchscreen PCs for Windows Vista and Seven. A finger can be used as a mouse pointer since pixel accuracy (or at least some accuracy) can be achieved calculating the center of finger's pressure. Or there are not drawing apps for iPad?

They're two completely different metaphors for interacting with a computer that do not mesh. Morphing back and forth capriciously like Windows 8 will only confuse the heck out of the user.

You're underestimating PC users (or maybe Mac users). If they could use Windows 95, they surely can handle a (presumably) well made W8 UI-switcher.

Why so threatened? And don't say you aren't - because anyone that attacks Ballmer, MS and the like so much has at least a FEW issues. If you weren't threatened - your posts wouldn't be so nasty towards the company. You have this "if you're not apple, you're crap" mentality and quite frankly it's both hilarious and sad at the same time.

Relax - Apple ins't going anywhere. You don't have to try and knock the competition to make yourself feel better. No one is coming over to steal your Apple products and replace them with other manufacturers.

If he's being this defensive just imagine the folks at Apple. Tim Cook, Jony Ive, and Scott Forstall, all of you better be taking notes because this is how innovation is truly done, ladies.

See, Microsoft gets it. Apple doesn't. Microsoft knows that you don't have to sacrifice specs to gain excellent user experience. Because that's dumb. You need top-of-the-line specs to achieve top-of-the-line user experience. Apple made compromises because they're more concerned with how pretty things look. Microsoft aren't making any compromises because they're more concerned with crafting the best possible user experience and that means cramming the OS with every possible feature, whether it's needed or not. Complexity is always better than minimalism.

That's why the fan noise and heat are non-issues. Microsoft is trying to achieve unity and that requires a real CPU, not some baby CPU. Now people can finally get real work done on a tablet using a real program, not some dumbed-down-specifically-tailored-for-tablet program. God, I can't wait until this iFad nonsense to end and for Microsoft to finally delivers a usable tablet OS.

Kin, Zune HD, Windows 7, and now Windows 8. Wow. Just wow. I'm speechless.

The cannons are primed and ready. Aim.....

Win 8 may slow Apples growth rate, but it could wipe RIM's tablets off the map.

In fact, Win 8 Metro UI will do wonders for sales MS phones as well,
might be a time to sell Apple stock for MS :)

I'm afraid you are cherry-picking data to fit your confirmation bias. The iPhone 4 fiasco contradicts the so-called evidence you provided. Also, HTC's CEO conducted a survey that proves that the iPhone is quickly becoming unpopular.

I'm happy that you're enthusiastic about the products you love but your talent for prognosticating is poor. Your prediction that the iPad would be a revolutionary device has yet to become true. In fact, I don't think you've ever been right about anything. Apple's released more duds than successes: Cube, Apple TV, MobileMe, iPhone 4, Final Cut Pro X, and Lion.

You actually need to know exact sample sizes to figure out there's probably a good reason Apple sells record numbers of Macs quarter for quarter despite the availability of cheaper and openly-licensed options (and even in a recession)?

You need a sample size to determine how and why Apple gear keeps topping consumer satisfaction ratings year after year?

Hint: they're probably doing something to Macs to make them score that way with consumers. Consistently.

Hmmm . . . what oh what could it be?

I was referring to the graph.

I mean, who are they seeking the opinion from? Disgruntled users aren't likely to give a good impression, are they.

I just thought this was the best quote ever because I honestly thought your post was completely sarcastic but I'm not really sure now.

I saw the headline and KNEW what the majority of the responses would be. You fanboys are SOOOO predictable.

You don't like windows then that's fine but no reason to trash something only for that reason. I have been and will continue to be a windows user and love every minute of it. Picked up a MBA for the wife and it's ok but in my user experience windows is a better fit for me. I however wouldn't trash Lion simply because I don't particularly like the way it operates.

So I say grow up and don't trash something you have no clue about simply because windows is in the title.

Now let the - ratings begin....

I'm getting the dev tool one first and 32 bit for a VM later. 50% done.

B
I have some friends that want the ISO tomorrow. I want to have a chance to play tonight as well. They were expecting the 11 PM EDT launch. I was not expecting it out early.

It's just my opinion. I don't understand how removing features is actually a good thing. Complexity leads to choice and the choice is freedom.

I really, really hope to God that was a joke post. If not, you should seek help.

You accuse him of cherry picking data, while he's linked to several prominent sources who share the same opinion, and counter that with... a supposed survey from frikkin HTC CEO?? A company who is in direct competition with Apple?? Are you insane?

iPhone 4 is a dud? The best selling phone on the planet, which sold 20+million units last quarter, while being more than a year old? The same phone that has garnered dozens of awards, has the highest customer satisfaction of any phone out there, and is still selling like hotcakes 18 months later? Lion, Apple's most successful OS yet? Those of your definitions of duds? I'd be curious what the hell is considered success to you. You have any ideas how many real duds companies like Microsoft and Google have released? The ratio is certainly greater than Apple's release history. But again, its clear you're irrational and any response to you would be useless.
