But that [multiwindow] is exactly what users want. Hence the perception by M$ that such a lack in Apple's products is a selling point for Windows 8 tablets.

Exactly. This is what many people in this # just don't want to admit. WinRT (and, soon, Android) is definitely superior to the pretty much stalling iOS in this regard.

My iPhone 5's battery (bought slightly after the launch) dies a month ago too. I've never been used the phone for phoning / everyday stuff chewing thru the battery so it was certainly the battery's fault. Apple exchanged the phone for one manufactored on week 22 / 2013. It seems you should take in the phone for repair or exchange - you may also have a bad battery.

Apple fanboys continue to hate everything non-Apple ;)

Thanks. I'll speak to O2 about it.

iPad

I love my iPad even that I have a Galaxy S4. But for my tablets I use iPad, but I like how my phone can have two apps open on the same screen.

I beg your pardon, but Apple has been doing this for 30 years now.

Thank you. It seems folks were born yesterday when it comes to advertising as a whole.

They call this ad misleading like the Mac vs PC ads weren't.

Overall, this ad did just what its creators wanted it to do. Showcase features that someone may want but can't get on an iPad.

You seem to have forgotten that Apple spread quite a bit of false propaganda about Android too at WWDC... and the "I'm a Mac" TV ads shouldn't be forgotten, either.

----------

That's AirPlay only. There are cases when you would like to output some video to an external display while doing something on the iPad. For example, while playing back a video for he kids in the car where an Apple TV as an AirPlay receiver obviously can't be used. Or, when playing back non-AirPlay-compliant videos, which either require mirroring (doesn't work in the background, obviously) or native TV output with software decoding (doesn't work with AirPlay either).

I know, but I meant that the current commercials all seem to involve Apple. Either good or bad:)

Did anyone else notice that the Apple guy is The Naked Man from How I Met Your Mother? haha

Wow I did not notice that lol good catch!

Yea and the problem is people think there's something wrong with that. It's like people think ios has to be better at everything than those other two or there's something wrong with the world.

What's idiotic is saying it is great to have USB so you can transfer photos from your tablet to your desktop...

Expandable storage (physical) is one of those legacy computing thought patterns that is becoming less and less relevant every day. People get stuck thinking they need to carry their entire video collection, 128 gigs, with them on the tablet on the off chance they want to watch one particular episode of Lost. It's a hoarding behavior that people need to change.

Im afraid its neither idiotic or hoarding.

Give you a few examples that have happened to me...

-Im in the hotel room abroad, I do my check-in and now want to print boarding passes. just place them on my USB drive, hand them to the reception and they print them.

-Im in a work environment and want to quickly pass data from a PC/Mac to my tablet

-I want to carry sensitive work files (USB drive)

-Need to review a Microsoft word/excel sheet (best seen and edited on original software)

-I am taking pictures or movies, I remove my SD card from the camera stick it onto USB card reader and I can review them.

-My Business POS software produces xps files.

-im at a Fair (no wifi) and someone wants to hand me a pdf (USB drive)

I could go on but it would be tiresome. I am sure that with some ingenuity you could overcome some of these problems if you have an Ipad but it would take some work. This is the reason I bought a windows RT, that and the micro SD that can cheaply expand memory

Im not saying the RT is fantastic, its not, but for me its the best compromise Battery/functionality

Superior in what regard? Is it more secure than iOS? Better ecosystem? Overall better interface? And in Android's case, what version are you talking about specifically since Google doesn't encourage vendors to use the latest or to ensure their is an upgrade path for recent devices with and older version.

As for iOS stalling, please illuminate. iOS 7 looks to be a strong upgrade to keep it relevant. I agree iOS 6 is stale & even tedious to use and look at but that is in the past. Forstall is no more.

I think saying Android (JellyBean) or Win 8 is superior to iOS is a bit of a hyperbole. It's also silly that these insidious "my OS is better than your OS" wars continue from back in the Mac vs Win days. If you drive a Honda do you also get upset because your neighbor drives what you believe is an inferior Toyota product?

Nah, I gotta disagree here. Yeah I know it's a cloud era and I love having my data on the cloud, UNTIL the cloud is not accessible. Data is expensive and the days of unlimited data are GONE. At my work we do not have the option to connect our tablets or phones to wifi, so we have to rely on cellular coverage. I'd eat up my data pretty quickly if I watched movies, streamed music, or even streamed pictures over cellular. So it's nice opting for a usb drive, memory card, or just having stuff on my hard drive.

It's not necessarily that I disagree about the hoarding part, no you are right there, I disagree that physical expandable storage is becoming less relevant, at least in terms of the U.S. where cellular coverage is not ubiquitous, and cellular data is expensive, and it seems this trend continues. Now if cellular data goes the other way and becomes cheap, and if fast data coverage is brought to all areas then I would agree with you more. But in day to day use I just find too many times where I either don't have fast data, or I don't want to burn up all my data and pay extra.

-I want to carry sensitive work files (USB drive)

I'm confused by this point because files on a USB drive are no more or less secure than if they were on a hard drive or SSD. Any file that isn't well encrypted is insecure by definition. But you can encrypt an SSD just as a USB. In fact iOS has a very good built in encryption system.

Typically one carries around a USB drive because they don't want or can't carry a device with them or they need to deliver it to someone. It's not about security.

It all depends on the users needs. Windows does have a much better ecosystem for me, for example, but it may not for you. I find the hundreds of thousands of legacy programs provide me choices that are more useful to me than iOS apps which to me are limited in functionality and are overblown in that one concept exists in hundreds of different iterations. Once again though that's just my experience and needs.

As for iOS7 being stale, meh I find it funny that "flattening" icons is such a progressive step forward. To me it's just a huge waste of resources with all that graphic useless revamping they did. Don't get me wrong, iOS7 has some great stuff, but most of that was just catching up to where Android was a year or 2 ago. Still though I don't really care that much because I use my phone as primarily a phone, that's why I stay with the iphone. But in terms of tablets, it's very stale.

But yeah, in essence I think we agree that it depends on the users needs and functions. Everything I say about iOS lacking on tablets is for my needs and not anyone elses, at the end of the day the market and consumers are what will decide. I just personally see some windows tablet functions which iOS does not have that I think consumers might find very valuable.

I find this the more I travel. Era of the internet but you either pay prohibitive roaming charges or your left without the Dam cloud. There is also the question of trusting the cloud services...

I wish people would stop calling it cloud...its a dam drive thats not yours and is somewhere else...Load of Hype!

The only fake about the comparison is that either user could actually see the display in the daylight.

Android tablets have great multitasking features, but let's face that there are hardly any Android apps tuned for high-resolution tablets because there are hardly any high-end Android tablets could sell.

When I am on my Android phone, my most used multitasking feature is putting a calculator app in front of an Internet browser. Also when you go and see how the Note 2 users run their phones, I bet you can barely even find 1% of Note 2 users who really utilize its multitasking feature. Most of them are still running single app on their Note 2 at a time.

What I am looking for in iOS is a Downloads folder which I can really drop file between my iPad and MacBook without using AirDrop and iTunes.

Oh, it doesn't run iOS?

Then it's a LESSER PRODUCT.

Next thread.

Bingo.

Haven't we learned the lesson yet that more features does not necessarily mean a better product? A decked out Hyundai Equus is about the same price as the entry level Mercedes E series with fewer amenities. If I'm buying my money goes to Mercedes. Nothing against Hyundai, but its cars are not Mercedes-level anymore than Macaroni Grill's food is worth of a perfect score in Zagat.

For some people, it's all about a checklist. If device A does more than device B, device A will always be better no matter what. Always. Apple devices will never be catered to these people, and the sooner they realize this the happier they will be.

It's not that it irritates me, it saddens me and makes me wish people has a little more independent thought than just what a company produces.
It is almost exactly like a religion for many where you are not supposed to question what the leader of the faith had degreed is the case.

Search these very forums:

iPhone 4 = Was classed as a cheap Chinese knock off, poor design, nasty looking when it was seen in sneak photos, but when it became clear it really was the new iPhone attitudes almost swung 180 degree's overnight.

I agree- see my comment below on iOS 7

iPad Mini = No way would Apple product a smaller iPad, and they should not, any smaller would be terrible, and unusable. Now so many people are saying how amazing it is, and some even downgrading from their full size iPad to the mini version.

Apple didn't exactly do what those people didn't want them to do. By making a 7.9" tablet as opposed to the popular 7" size, it was big enough to be noticeably different from a 7" tablet, but still MUCH smaller than the full size iPad. Regarding usability, the 7.9" size also has the side benefit of having exactly the same DPI as the iPhone- people that can successfully use an iPhone can successfully use an iPad mini.

Is the iPhone 5 aspect ratio wrong still now as it was deemed any such change would be wrong?

I was happy with the previous iPhones, and I am happy with my iPhone 5. That said, I feel like a lot of the apprehension about aspect ratio was not directed towards the iPhone becoming 16:9, but towards the people saying that the iPhone was behind because it wasn't 16:9. 4:3 is still a good aspect ratio, but 16:9 allowed Apple to keep the same PPI as the iPhone 4/4S and increase the size of the phone in a way that made things manageable for developers. It's not a matter of ideology, in any case.

Is iOS7 still going to remain looking terrible to most people here?

Yeah, this is definitely a put up or shut up moment... if iOS 7 is really that bad to some of these people, they should switch to Android or Windows Phone. But most of them will just eat their vegetables and get on with their lives.

Will Apple produce a widescreen Tablet ever, which also has been said would be terrible?

See my comment about the iPhone 5.

Again it does not irrigate me, it saddens and in a sad was amuses me that too many people are unable to have a independent opinion on something.

It's not a matter of having an independent opinion. Plenty of people have the independent opinion that Apple products are better than those of their competitors. You don't have to take a magnifying glass to each and every one of Apple's products to determine that the Apple ecosystem either works for you or doesn't work for you. A big reason why people's defenses of Apple can seem really petty is because the attacks on them are equally as petty. Personally, Apple products work for me. I don't need to put down other brands to feel confident in my opinion.

And Black can be terrible and white amazing today because Apple make white but not black.
And yet in a week time when Apple stop white and change to black, then Black will be Amazing and White terrible.

This is vastly oversimplifying the points you already made above.

Reading these forums over the years this happens again and again

As I say, it's just as if they are in church and they dare never question the teachings of the holy one, as the holy one always knows what's right.

This isn't a matter of religion. I don't think that agreeing with Apple's general philosophy is something even remotely "religious" in nature, any more than vehemently disliking Apple is religious in nature. I wish people would just accept that some people like Apple as a company (not just for their products), just as I wish Apple fans would stop throwing stones at people just for liking other products.

Then its my quirk! Any sensitive data I usually carry on a USB drive . Sometimes it can be just a backup.!

The Ipad could be such a perfect tablet if they would only sort out the connectivity, so frustrating. I dont even mind not having the "multitasking" although having more than one window open at a time can be a blessing (spreadsheets)... If the new intel chip battery life is as good as they say I will probably just get myself a 11" Air and dump both tablets.

Yeah because that idiot didn't know how to use 4 finger multi gesture on his iPad. Not the fault of the device.

It's actually the opposite. ARM processors are very capable of running multitasking OSes (they can run Unix and Windows RT). However, iOS being a phone OS first and foremost is very limited in this regard. As I understand, multitasking will be improved in iOS 7. Multiple apps will be able to run simultaneously (different apps, not just the "services" offered by Apple as is the case now). So in terms of applications (processes) iOS 7 will be better but there is another aspect of multitasking which is a display. Real multitasking OSes allow different applications to share the resources of the display. iOS only allows one application to use the display, Android (some versions) - allows to run two applications at a time, Windows (Linux etc.) has no limit.

That is what Quasar was for right?
No to mention how good could be a drag and drop over from one app to another.
Nonetheless i love my Ipad and i love that "Daft Punk" video - what i'm really scared is to see MacBook Pro Haswell Benches without any Discrete Gpu...
but this is another story...is it?
Such as an Hybrid Air with a detachable "Ipad Display" ^^ as we had in some Hybrid patents.
