Apple is selling you hardware.

Get it through your thick skull.

You are buying a LAPTOP, that is not SOFTWARE. That is physical HARDWARE.

If Apple put that OS on that ugly HP, do you think Apple would still be in business?

No it's their HARDWARE that draws the ATTENTION.

I love that you're getting so worked up about something that you're clearly wrong about. Seriously, how old are you?

While the aesthetics of the hardware are definitely appealing to any Mac user or potential Mac user, the software often times seals the deal. Yes, the software. You know, that operating system that Apple doesn't license out to anyone else? The operating system that puts anything that Microsoft has released to shame? The OS, along with things like iLife and iWork are, yes, say it with me here... Software! YAY! See how easy that is?

And the thing is, you can go into any Apple store and try out, yes, say it again... the SOFTWARE! So yes, people do buy Apple computers for the software AND the hardware. I'm sure you can't relate because most windows computers are ugly as far as hardware is concerned, and inferior as far as the software is concerned. :)

Paying more for a shiny object is silly. Paying more for a more useful tool is not. IMO, Windows is less useful, therefore it is worth less.

Why do people pay 1000 dollars for Louis Vuitton bags when they get a 20 dollar bag at Walmart, it's the world we live in buddy.

I run my PC all the time and doesn't give me any trouble. In fact is more stable and durable than any other Mac I have ever owned.
Caught in MacFanboy propaganda?

The industry satisfaction rates don't tell that. Mac users are more satisfied than Vista users, in fact more XP users are satisfied than Vista users.

Exactly. :D

lol, this is becoming interesting...can't wait to see apple's response

Apple should ignore it.

These are the best ads FOR Apple. They all go...

"GOD I WISH I COULD HAVE THE APPLE! THEY ARE SO WELL MADE AND BEAUTIFUL BUT.... I SETTLED FOR THIS TRASH."

The entire push of these commercials is: It's ok to settle for less. It's ok to be second best. Microsoft--Life Without Balls.

lol

I am a lawyer for a V10 firm. That's beside the point.

Majority of the fanboys were attacking the AD as baseless. The ad is perfectly warranted. By your own admission you admit that Apple can not compete with the prices set forth by OEM PC manufactures. Thus, the only reason you buy a Macintosh is for looks/OS.

The ad was just showing that realization, you can buy a cheaper PC than has better hardware than a MAC.

You know, it's hardware that makes compiling times faster, dvd ripping quicker, hd playback smoother.

Personally, I think Microsoft advertising the availability of a large number of PC configurations at various price points is fair game. They have chosen to make their operating system available to a large variety of manufacturers, and that is what has led to those choices being available. Apple has chosen not to, and hence there are limited choices. Thus the choice of hardware they advertise is a feature of their operating system. It doesn't mean that they are they only OS with that feature, but it is a feature.

It doesn't mean that Macs aren't better or don't offer a better experience. It simply means that you have more choices at more price points when buying PCs . That is an undeniable fact. It is also an undeniable fact that most PCs available for purchases at retail locations runs Windows. Microsoft are advertising to their strengths just as all companies do. It sure as hell beats advertising that they have Solitaire or Windows Movie Maker.

And I say all this as a (relatively) long time Mac user.

I agree 100%.

In these ads, the people always go to look at a Mac before they settle with a HP.

I don't understand why you are all saying that Microsoft doesn't make the hardware. Of course they don't.

But when HP sells a laptop, Microsoft also gets a sale of their OS. I'd bet that a huge portion of Microsoft's income from its OSs comes from them being sold pre-loaded on machines in this way, rather than in a box on their own.

Does anyone know what model the computer was that he eventually bought?

He's trying to say that if it's a Windows commercial it should be about the Windows software NOT the hardware it's running on.

The ads are incredibly convoluted, they say that if you can get PC hardware that is cheaper than Apple hardware that somehow the Windows OS is the better choice.

Funny how these 'shoppers' don't compare the single most important spec, the OS.

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!

Its like buying a house without even looking to see what the inside is like!

It's also amazing that they PINE over the Apple computers first. WTH is up with that?

It would probably be more effective if they chose something Apple actually lacked and had the person honing in on it, like, "EW! NO GAMES CHA! I WANT GAMES." Then show these people back home unwashed after days of playing WoW online with flies all over them. :p

Hahahha.

They just tell it how it is, really. Maybe their idea of showing 'real life situations' wasnt so bad after all (for Apple). ;)
