Let's all just wait for Apple's response... it they even choose to respond.

The adds are catchy but have as much to do with truth as the new budget just signed by the prez... no truth and little relevance.

Got to say that IMHO, these Microsoft Ad's speak for themselves about who Microsoft is. I think Apple need not respond. ;)

what a sad ad. Majority of public doesn't understand half of what he's sahying. Ghs, MBs, GBs, processor, speed. WTF?

Apple should made an ad:
MAC-no headache
PC-headache

Actually, I was thinking of an add that went:

(Voice-Over: This is Steve...)

1976_steve_jobs.jpg

(Voice-Over: One day, Steve decided that he wanted a computer that didn't suck...

I think most of us can take it from there.

From kk1ro: "Your hardware is only as good as your OS allows it to be."

Well said.

-hh

I bought a MBP for the following reasons:

1. OSX (after using it for a few months you realize how ass-backwards Windows is)

2. Aesthetics (Show me a pc that is made out of aluminum and doesn't creak when you pick it up..)

3. The touchpad (seriously does Apple have a patent on LARGE multi-touch touch pads? Every other notebook I tried, my hand would start hurting after 10 minutes of use)

I still think it can't be said enough that Microsoft, a pure software maker, is making ads about hardware prices. I just wish I could rewind this a few years and see the dude walk out with a Packard Bell. Those were cheap ........

I hope Apple responds with some dude wanting to buy an office suite for his Mac. He really just needs a word processor, simple spreadsheet, and presentation maker. The cheapest non-student MS Office is about $300, whereas iWork is $79.

I'm damning with faint praise but this is one of Microsoft's better efforts. Also, it's barely an Apple attack ad and actually manages to say complimentary things about Apple's hardware. The only problem I have with it is, who is this aimed at? The type of customer depicted in the ad (slightly nerdy, tech. savvy) is all about "bang for the buck" and is buying on specs. This type of customer doesn't need to be brought back into the PC fold.

Now I hope you're being sarcastic with this, but *sigh*, here goes :

BSD predates Linux by about 14 years. BSD's first version of Unix shipped in 1977, Linux was only in Linus' mind in April of 1991 and was finally posted to USENET as version 0.01 in September 1991.

But that's besides the point, NeXTSTEP didn't use BSD code either for the kernel. The Mach kernel was released around 1984 or 1985 and was a Carnegie Mellon University project (BSD stands for Berkeley Software Distribution and thus is made at the University of California, Berkeley).

NeXTSTEP released their first version in 1989, 3 years after they first demoed their OS. This is a full 2 years ahead of Linux for the release, a 5 years ahead of Linux if you count the demos as working code.

Hence, no... OS X doesn't use Linux code in their kernel. Darwin doesn't even have a GPL compatible license (even though the APSL is FSF approved, it is not GPL compatible) and so couldn't even begin to use any Linux code without a change of license for the entire code base.

So what do you have to say about that EnderTw, still want to quote this for posterity ?

Schooled! I wish more people put this much thought into their posts.

I wanna know what would happen if the person chose a MacBook. Betcha M$ wouldn't run that commercial. :D:p

Oh yeah right away. I can just see Microsoft doing this. :D

Actually, I think this advertising is badly timed, if Microsoft were going to do a real push with such a campaign they should try it when Windows7 is done - and push it's merits, not cheapo HP products.

I bought a MBP for the following reasons:

Like how ass-backards you mean?

2. Aesthetics (Show me a pc that is made out of aluminum and doesn't creak when you pick it up..)

Show me a PC that comes brand new with a 'deformed body' in many cases.

3. The touchpad (seriously does Apple have a patent on LARGE multi-touch touch pads? Every other notebook I tried, my hand would start hurting after 10 minutes of use)

Like from what cause I can't find a reason why a bit smaller trackpad would make your hand hurt. Seriously.

i agree with you, but i rather have a computer that will last a long time than have a cheap computer thats better last 1/2 as long.

As far as I can tell lately Macs are not exactly picking up on quality...
Just look at this forums... Why 95% of posters advise you to buy applecare??

Apple! Please take this ad seriously and drop the price! This advertisement shows the only reason I buy PCs instead of Mac!! Come on!!! My next purchase is more likely to be a PC! The biggest reason I hate PC less is the price, otherwise I would hate Mac less.

Bro you need to shut up. If you wanted a Mac that badly you'd save your money to buy one instead of complaining of how much it costs. All of us here did that.

Like how ass-backards you mean?

Everything from installing an application to pairing a bluetooth headset. I went through hell yesterday trying to pair a bluetooth headset in Windows, literally took me like 45 minutes. Apparently MS doesn't include the audio profile by default.

Show me a PC that comes brand new with a 'deformed body' in many cases.

Most of the notebooks are perfect, there are a few that are defective. I haven't read of anyone having trouble exchanging 'deformed' MBs.

Like from what cause I can't find a reason why a bit smaller trackpad would make your hand hurt. Seriously.

Cause you constantly need to pick your finger up.

I thought it looked like it had a number pad in the ad, and I was right. Wow, he wanted portability and went for a 16" laptop? Interesting.

But really, that looks like great value for money. It's $1099, which is $100 cheaper than a regular MacBook. It comes with vastly superior graphics (which match the second level MacBook Pro ), faster processor, double the RAM, 3x the hard drive space, larger, higher resolution display...

And it has FIREWIRE, unlike the MacBook. This dude got a good deal.

Yep

As much as I love Apple as a brand, I think what MS is doing right now is all for the better. Apple, have for too long taken the back seat when it comes to marketing and pricing - they are superb at what they do for their marketing schemes and no one has (including MS) tried to fight back or introduce their own marketing promos.

Its similar to supermarket war - you'll see billboards or newspaper advertisements with two supermarket trolley's full with groceries and a price comparison given between the two 'supermarkets'. Whichever supermarket is paying for the advert in the newspaper will obviously want to portray a better image of themselves by showing a lower price.

Whats happening in the case of Apple and MS now is similar to those lines. Lets see, if and how, Apple reacts to this.

What would be funny is if Apple got a hold of these two actors and paid them more to buy Macs and make it so that they actually own Apple computers lol

The 1st commercial was better, but this one still makes a point... the Apple Tax sucks. I wouldn't recommend a Mac to any price conscious person. :(

btw, for those who do not know already:

the first commercial woman has been proved that she is a professional actress.

following three images are the woman came in and came out the apple store.
The first and the third were when that woman came into the store, and the second one was the woman came out the store

And there is one guy came by... so we would need to guess, why this guy was walking so slow:D:p:p

and the guy with stripe on his shirt is the same guy

now i would assume he is the actor b

Hehehe, Apple should do that, I mean they all do the same thing, who wants to pay 300 dollars for Office, when iwork is there for 80 dollars.

MacBook:
Designed by Apple in California - Assembled in China.

iPod Shuffle:
Designed by Apple in California - Assembled in China.

BT Mighty Mouse:
Designed by Apple in California - Assembled in Malaysia.

iPod charger:
Designed by Apple in California - Assembled in China.

Designed & Assembled is completely different.

Where do all computers get assembled? the answer is above 3-1.

Apple makes the cases code their own software then buy from 3rd party vendors and their hardware is assembled by another company.

Windows sells their software to OEM'S who then buy from 3rd party vendors and their hardware is assembled by another company.

The difference between the 2....One makes pretty enclosures the other one relies on other vendors easthetic ideas. PERFECT BUSINESS SENSE.

I give it to apple though.
You know companies like dell, hp etc will forever back microsoft thats why microsoft will not loose. They have the biggest companies backing them.

And here is apple with a closed business idea no backing at all. but yet somehow make big corporations shake in their boots.

APPLAUD APPLE. Now that is power.

It's called an international corperation! Apple's HQ is in California their factories are in Asia! Those are still Apple employees just because its assembled overseas doesn't mean its not the same company dude. There are many other companies that do this. I'm a guitar player I should know, Fender and Gibson are guitar companies and they design their guitars in the US, Arizona for Fender, Tennessee for Gibson and those guitars are built in either Mexico or Asia in one of their factories

Yeah like this forum is representative of the real world.

So clicking the 'next, next, next' button with your mouse is ass-backwards?
Ok...
How about the airport on MB and MBPs that looses connection every 5-10 minutes? State of the art and so user friendly isn't it?

Most of the notebooks are perfect, there are a few that are defective. I haven't read of anyone having trouble exchanging 'deformed' MBs.
I had a problem. They exchanged it in the end but that wasn't a easy process.

Cause you constantly need to pick your finger up.

So you are telling me that usual (from what I can tell looking at some google images and reading thru specs) 1/2 - 1/4 inch difference makes that big of a deal?
