I can't explain it, but these ads make me want to get a Macbook. I mean, I've wanted one for a while, but these ads give me hope that Apple might respond with some kind of price drop so I'll have a higher chance of being able to get my hands on a Macbook. :D :apple:

They won't. As I mentioned before, Apple is making far to much money (even in this down economy) to sacrifice price and brand image for a few points of market share.

Apple won't lower prices because of these ads. Sorry.

Yes, but a so short product lineup some limitations don't make any sense. Specially if you look at the price (ex: no video recording on iphone that costs 500€ in Portugal) Do you understand what i meaning?

The Palm Pre which is being touted as the saviour of the cell phone industry doesn't have video recording.

False advertisement!

Since when these PCs have better configuration than Macs?!

Even the MBA has better cpu cache and faster RAM this this piece of JUNK HP laptop!

Macs all the way till Microsoft gets its act together and maybe give up making DOORS (sorry, windows lol)
Pretty much since since the Pentium-M era for laptops. The HDX 18t can even sport a mobile quad core if you're going to cough up the money.

His first priority was to find a computer with "portability" and he picks out a 7 pound beast? Good luck carrying that brick with you all day. Hope you have a good chiropractor
Gee, I wonder what we did when laptops weighed 10 pounds. How about the Compaq Portable?

Battery life too, yet he picks one with a 6 cell battery, big graphics, big monitor...

Mac Fanatics are blind! Apple is the best brand in the world.

Always finding a way to justify the price or lank of features...

That would be a very limited point of view. You have two options, a macbook and iphone for all purposes and economic status? People think different and have very different needs. They can get whatever they want with their own money. Just because you like apple it doesn't mean that everyone has to get one of their products.

Oh boy, it seems some of you read peoples posts and some of you don't or is it that you just want to hold your own opinions no matter what? Your saying that I stated something that I have not. The person said that all they want a computer for is to surf the web so they want something under $1000. Since when is ANY computer only made to surf the web dude? There's no reason to argue. I wasn't putting the guy down by acting as if Mac people are elite and everyone else should go away. He stated what he wanted and I gave some options. Should I tell him to go get a MBP which is obviously over the price he wants to spend and is definitely meant for far more than checking email?

Meh, Dells really aren't that bad (better than HPs IMO). If my semi computer illiterate parents can use them with no problems, then I'll keep buying them on the cheap.

HP has to be getting a cut on these commercials though because they're really the only other brand mentioned besides Apple of course.

Lately, but my work Dell E4300 is having issues with playing iTunes videos. I updated the drivers (and you HAVE TO get them from Dell) but still issues. The Dell is actually $200 more than the equivalent Aluminum MacBook...

My cheap-o Acer I paid $379 for plays iTunes vids without a hitch (and I can use the generic Intel drivers with it).

So, I'm convinced that Acer (as far as the their latest models) are best cheap ones. Dell, still not convinced, especially with their horrible Customer Service (though you can get North American Service for $99/year...).

HP has the best value for a PC (not the cheapest, but best dollar-for-dollar).

Then, you start getting into the more expensive computers (Fujitsu, Sony). Now you're just about at the point where you might as well by a Mac... :D

Whats the resale vaule of his PC down the road comared to the mac? How will it perform with several viruses???

lol, re-sell,, when you spend twice as much money, you sure want to re-sell more.

with several viruses? You have to assume a tech savy guy has no concept of download and installing a free AV software?

I will never install a piece of apple software on my windows machines. I have AA1 as well, quite nice little thing, I finished my thesis on it. :)

Are you saying we shouldn't expect any progress to be made ? Ever ?
No what I'm saying is suck it up and stop acting like 7 lbs. is going to kill you.

It's a desktop replacement not a netbook.

I think my MacBook is heavy but I'm not going to complain. Did I mention it was cheap after discounts?

Its a fair assumption given that he wanted top level performance and was satisfied with a 6 cell battery.

You Microsoft fan boys are funny, its not the hardware its the far superior operating system, and you fanboys cant even say xp or vista come close to leopard or tiger. Ive used all 4 of those os's and while vista isnt as bad as people say it, its isnt far from it. like not having to run a crappy virus scanner / firewall in the background taking up resources. PLUS you get great support, which is also what you pay for, have a problem on windows and your not a tech person than god help you because youll spend all day on google trying to find a solution or paying some one way to much money to do it for you...

In the end, people aren't mindless retards being controlled by apple, i switched this Christmas for a reason, and it wants because of the pretty apple logo on the back of the display (though i do like it ;))

I think a great ad for apple should be two people buying a mac and a pc and comparing setting them up and using them for a month or something and showing all the crap preinstalled on vista and a bitch to setup and then show them getting a virus or something going wrong on both and showing how easy it is to fix it on a mac with an apple employee and then having the windows guy calling tech support and having it be someone who cant speak english very well and just cuts out with him looking at the camera like "this is redicilous" maybe with him saying while the indian guy in the background is talking say "i should have switched to a mac"

Microsoft Doesn't Sell Hardware

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but I find it interesting that MS is focusing on laptop costs in their ads since they don't develop hardware. I guess that's their only angle because they can't compare Windows to OS X as you know that's a losing battle.

Except gaming of course

And CPU choice, and RAM usage, and software compatibility, and...

You get the point.

Honestly, Macs are great but they're an alternative, not a superior choice. People should buy what they need and what they want. That's not going to be the same for everyone.

Wait, first you're saying it's quite portable, then you're saying it's a desktop replacement ? The guy didn't want a desktop replacement, one of his own criteria (as scripted in the ad) was portability.

The lighter and smaller the better.

And the suck it up comments points to the fact that you do think no progress should ever be made. Why should I suck it up if I don't have to ? You're not making any sense.

Do we have a verification if it's the 16t or 18t?

People love blowing laptop weight out of proportion here.

I dont think batt life is not as important as you think, 2 and half hour is good enough for me, and I know I would install a AVG on any new windows machine I got.

Does batt life affect your game fps? or video transcoding speed? I dont think so.

When you have to drag books in your backpack on top of your laptop for school or work for long distances, maybe you'll understand why 3 lbs can make a difference.
