I have to say this ad is not close to as good as the previous one. And that's while supporting the general concept in each ad.

what a sad ad. Majority of public doesn't understand half of what he's sahying. Ghs, MBs, GBs, processor, speed. WTF?

Apple should made an ad:
MAC-no headache
PC-headache

lol

Microsoft knows this. Him saying computery words makes him look smart, thus he is more right (which I DON"T think he is cuz i know what all of that actually means);):p

When you have to drag books in your backpack on top of your laptop for school or work for long distances, maybe you'll understand why 3 lbs can make a difference.
How many miles do you walk at work? :D

I carried a Dell Latitude D500 for a year of college.

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but I find it interesting that MS is focusing on laptop costs in their ads since they don't develop hardware. I guess that's their only angle because they can't compare Windows to OS X as you know that's a losing battle.

i honestly think M$ is taking the position of apple, since apple is mixing up everything in the pc vs. mac ads, Microsoft just take that position wrap them all together.

I dont think batt life is not as important as you think, 2 and half hour is good enough for me, and I know I would install a AVG on any new windows machine I got.

Does batt life affect your game fps? or video transcoding speed? I dont think so.

No, it doesn't but when you are looking for a laptop battery life is a big concern. I've read the reviews on HP's site about that machine and the number one complaint is that the battery doesn't last long enough unless you get the 12 cell.

You're FPS or transcoding speed may not be affected, but only being able to use it for 45 minutes without plugging it in is a big determent.

People still do the $ thing for MS? It's like 1995 all over again!

You pay for what you want! Obviously he DIDN'T want an Apple with OSX (that's only if he's a "real person" and not a paid actor).

I myself pay for the Apple tax because I WANT an Apple computer with OSX. It always comes down to preference. If you're buying a computer for price alone then you don't really care about hardware or OS, just the specs given to you by the company that makes the computer. And if you compare specs when price shopping then you'll always buy the PC because it's cheaper.

The frustration of dealing with viruses is not worth the small savings

i have used pcs for many many years with no problems of virus at all. It's more difficult to manage a pc specially if you don't know many things about computers in macs are more simple. so simple that many times is stupid don't have basic options

millions of pc users understand a cheap, free avg can solve your headache, maybe only some mac users are still complaining something they dont even really care to know.

batt is always a concern when buying a laptop, however, there are many other concerns as well, and I have to put price first, ram second, other hardwares, and batt follows.

Being tech savy doesn't mean he can get a perfect solution, because there isn't a perfect solution.

Again, who said portability is one of my criteria ? In fact, my only criteria was : OS X without the fuss.

Next time, I'm adding backlit keyboard to the mix though.
So you no problems with my post quoting someone else on the subject of a 7 pound laptop.

I'm glad I know that now! :D

Which is perfectly fine and I agree that there is no perfect solution. The problem I had with the scenario presented was the the "average joe" was very focused on system specs, battery life and portability. My problem with his choice was that the particular laptop he selected would either have no battery life with the stock battery or lose portability with the 12 cell (adding weight). They made a big deal about his selection of this particular laptop because it met his needs at a good price. The problem is that it didn't actually meet all of his needs.

Its a bit misleading.

Your post was saying 7 lbs is just fine and portable. I was saying he could get better for the same money if portability was one of his criteria (which the ad states it is).

I'm left wondering why the ad even states portability and battery life as criteria when both are just second rate options on the model he selected. They should've stuck with power/discrete graphics and we wouldn't even be discussing this.

It's not a ton of bricks either, but it doesn't mean that I would like to carry it around everyday.
Luckily there are plenty of laptop vendors that can meet your desires and criteria on the hardware unlike Apple.

Wait do I sound like the commercial now?

I thought we established my criteria was : OS X without any fuss. No other vendors can help me besides Apple.

That has nothing to do with the fact that IF I had to carry around a laptop, I wouldn't want as light as possible.

Free Anti-Virus aren't always trouble free though :

http://securityandthe.net/2008/11/10/avg-virus-scanner-removes-critical-windows-file/

Except the ad specifically says it is.

huh, Im not providing perfect solution, and which mac users can claim macs are perfect for everything anyway?

we just do our best, and understand that solve most of the problems, which is practically good enough. dont you think?

Its a bit misleading.
it probably is, but hey, its an ad. This is how all the ads work, by more or less misleading audience, apple isn't doing any better.
