At least give it to us that we are more civil than the average pc forum

Having read and participated in many different forums, I can honestly say that PC forums are IN GENERAL (obviously there are always exceptions to the rule) more civil. The reason for it is simple - most of the users don't really love their machines. They are just trying to get some work done with them and treat them more as a tool so there's more talk about the actual use of the machine and problem solving the issues than any type of PC advocacy.

Apple forums are quite the opposite. Probably over half the posts are fanboy/fangirl ravings about how in love somebody is with their computer. It's rare to find a post without some type of Apple advocacy in it, whether directly or through a signature or tagline. That much advocacy leads to more heated arguments and more cases of civility getting thrown out the window.

Anyhow that's my 2 cents on the matter. Feel free to ignore this aside and carry on.

@podiki, points well taken. Funny name indeed bunny rabbit, ha ha, great locale choice, sounds funny in the native language too!:apple:

Come on you want to be a fanboy too that's why you are here, give in and you ll get a free mactablet ;) and ticket to see the new protein fed fatso Steve in his triumphant return on WWDC for the new iphone!!!:D

I have 2 iPhones (2G & 3G and I'm excited to see the next iPhone:)), an aluminum macbook, and a 3 week old mac mini. I can own these products and use them along side my 3 other Windows-based PCs without swearing allegiance to MS or Apple.

Windows AND Mac OS under the same roof?! Yes, people like me do exist. ;)

Agreed 100%. To each his own though, of course.

Actually if you watch 24 Season 1 and 2 again you can spot Apple placements in it. I didnt catch it untill I watched those seasons again a few months back.

I second this, i've just finished watching season 1 and theres nothing apart from Mac's in them.

ugg i hope this thread dosn't swell to like 5,000 posts. Makes the site lag a little bit.
on a different note, did they rearrange the similes in the posting window?:p

Last time I checked, Microsoft sold an operating system and not a "laptop".
Also, both have been HPs...coincidence?

@phobic, you and me we are going wwdc for the return of the steve, he's puttng in his jet for you, where you will solemnly swear to burn every last inch of pc upon return for a holy communion with the mac leader.:D;):apple:

@tubbymac, you are right, but I was referring more to the civility in such types of threads here where we get bashed by pc/ms sympathisers at home, not the general forums. I have read some threads in pc forums against macs...jesus christ I ve not read so much claptrap in my life than there...-people who actually bother to come here are a tad bettter-...I mean the things they think about to say, and being much less informed - or completely misinformed- about the products than someone who reads macrumors too, man the staff that comes out of their mouths....

@ian. Excellent post, I hope a lot of you all read it.

You just added to the chain, what does that say? Personally, I find it odd how people complain about lengthly chains. It's a lot more fun than most lately.

I'm waiting to see if the Get A Mac ad has a comeback. What would it be? Maybe PC on the phone trying to get through to HP support, or being asked to send his new machine to India.

If MS was really smart they would just give John Hodgman the $300 million to quit being PC.

It looks nicer in my eyes, but most people don't buy their computer for the looks.
They sure don't (as evidenced by the fugly computers vastly outnumbering the handsome ones). The C64 still retains the record as the best selling computer model, and it was the ugliest of its contemporaries. The black- and silver Texas TI-99, the Atari 600XL, the Sinclair QL (beautiful for its time, pure Apple minimalism), they were all way hotter looking, yet it was the chubby beige turd that sold 10 million copies. All thanks to the abundance of games and the rampant piracy, which to a large extent is how the PC became a hit in people's homes, while owning a Mac became kind of having a Betamax VCR when everyone else was on VHS.

Of course, any intelligent person knows that it's all scripted, etc, etc, blah blah blah.

Yes, but what about the other 90% of the viewing public?

These ads will be very effective in the market segment where 'a computer is a computer, just tell me how much it costs,' which, sadly, is the majority of the general public. To a casual computer user, the difference between a Mac and a PC is largely abstract, whereas, the cost savings portrayed here are very tangible.

These ads seek to redefine the cult of the mac so that our position is no longer "we mac users are willing to pay more for a more reliable, more aesthetic, less troublesome platform." Instead, these ads seek to distort our position so that it's become in the eyes of their viewer, "we're mac people and we're willing to spend more just so that we can feel cool when there's really no difference in our computer and what you can get for less."

Compared to the BG/Seinfeld ads, these are much more effective.

Full of crap, yes, but more effective.

Myth, is that why Apple leads in the industry in satisfaction rates and close to the top for reliability?

Not this year they don't. The high ranking of earlier years has more to do with the return policy than the actual quality of the product, I think. At least that's what I think when I look around me and see all the people I know who have Macs with their 3rd or 4th logic board.

Lots of Mac, never had a single problem, suspect you live with a bunch of lushes spilling their beer on everything.

At lot of people here don't want to hear that because they feel the need to have to defend their purchases for some unknown reason. Fanboyism is an amazing trend indeed.

The fanboy title is getting pretty tired. whatever way you cut it, it's name-calling, not logic.

Which is actually not that far from the "Get a Mac" sales pitch in the TV ads and at the campaign site :)apple:.com/getamac). It's a bit schizo because the language and the points they make somehow suggest that they're targeting soccer moms, seniors and average Joes in general, but Apple doesn't really have a lot to offer in that price range so there's this awkward transition from "yes, it does basic mail and surfing, and manages your photos too!" to suddenly talking about $2799 laptops. They lost me there somewhere between the baseline netbook tasks and the video professional price range, and that gap is where M$ is trying to snatch the ball and run with it.

Show me proof, I see you didn't bother to comment onnthe satisfacion rates.

I agree, as is fanboyism in general. When the actual moderators of this forum see fit to warn me of such infractions, I'll be sure to abide accordingly.
