I believe Apple just got handed its ass. The eraser alone is enough, but MS just delivered a pretty great keynote with some pretty decent products. Believe me, I am not a fan of MS products at all. The Apple slide continues....

Apple Pencil has tilt which Surface Pen apparently does not. However Surface Pen has an eraser and 5 different tips. So overall it's a wash as to versatility. Both have 1024 pressure levels. Surface Pen has 1 year battery life.

Nope. The touchscreens. I've had my Surface for about 4 days now, and haven't grabbed the typecover yet, but I believe you use a two finger press for a right-click on it.

It's crazy right? 1024 detected pressure levels for the pen, but the screen can't detect 2 levels for finger.

Some serious salt going on in this thread. MS hit it out of the park, full stop. Best hardware event of the year. They won 2015.
This. And only the most extreme Apple fanboys can deny it. Microsoft seems so focused right now. And they're openly courting power users, from Tablet to Laptop to Phones to TV & gaming. Apple's hardware options continue to be solid, but so tentative. OTOH, Microsoft's "One Windows" initiative has quietly been making for a compelling ecosystem, and now they're offering compelling hardware to implement it. Developers will not continue to ignore it. I'm looking for Apple to really be bold in the next year.

It's more than just tit for tat...think about it...they added an ERASER to their stylus while Apple was so busy creating the perfect "Apple Pencil" they completely forgot to include an eraser - it's called PENCIL. I think this says a lot about what's wrong with Apple right now. This is a much bigger problem. They are way overthinking things and making them much too complex. From iCloud to iTunes to Beats. It's a jumble of **** that really just doesn't work very well.

Just to preface, I own a Surface Pro 3 and believe in owning the best product for my needs, so I'm not a mindless Apple fan by any means. That being said, I think the Surface Book is absolutely awesome from a hardware perspective. The hinge looks somewhat ugly, but also has a futuristic look, and certainly looks well designed. Even though this is a first iteration of this device, it looks extremely refined like this is a fourth generation product.

The problem I have is with those who have used Windows 10 and say it's more stable than El Capitan. I simply haven't found that to be the case. I've stopped using and will probably sell my Surface Pro 3. I'm typing this on my new Macbook Pro which has had absolutely no problems, and is a phenomenal piece of hardware.

Windows 10 is a work in progress. It's beta software released early. It may get stable eventually, but right now I can't believe folks are claiming such a positive experience with Windows 10.

Looks interesting, It's too bad that Windows 10 has completely turned me away from Windows.
Forcing users to do an upgrade install(which keeps a ton of useless files) vs a clean install then breaking file permissions that prevents me from accessing my files.
A ton of software/hardware incompatibility that mysteriously were not mentioned in the "compatibility checker program".
Who created an operating system that doesn't natively support video playback/DVDs playback/basic video editing without buying software from Windows.
Sure you get the dvd app free if u upgrade but they take it away if you ever need to reinstall Windows 10- who came up with that genius idea.

To think they got rid of all the losers that put them in a bad position in mobile, gaming and PCs - Ballmer, Mattrick and Elop. All GONE. Just not having sweaty Ballmer up there anymore is a such a relief.

In comes Nadella and allows the talent to shine(Panos). Remember Nadella is the cloud guy, but I think he was the one who went to Surface Labs and told Panos - "go make me a laptop for 2015". Serious mofo.

There are some things that never change. As far as Windows goes, sometimes you'll get unlucky, and it won't "take" when you install it. Something doesn't gel quite right with something else, and didn't install something quite the way it should've, and it effects performance and stability from the bottom up.

I went through it recently with my brand new Surface. I had it for a day, and it ran great. The next day, I got a firmware update that screwed my wifi over almost completely. It took me a couple of hours to get it fixed, but once I did, it ran smooth as silk. Hasn't given me a problem since.

Though vastly improved since the XP days, you still do occasionally have to beat Windows with a stick.

Microsoft and Windows: software and hardware for low-end workers doing low-end jobs, and toys for kids playing games.

Always have been. Always will be.

Yeah, like those low-end managers, board members and general 90% of the global workforce that don't use Mac OS you mean? There are virtually no Macs in the business world. Let's not get cocky here.

The Surface Book looks incredible. Microsoft really knocked it out of the ball park. If I was a Windows laptop user I'd be over the moon with that product, incredibly innovative.

Kudos to Microsoft, I really liking the Surface Book laptop. Only know it's a laptop with big gap on the hinge, when I saw the video and the screen detached.... Damn that's innovation right there.

So much hostility towards Microsoft in this thread. It seems MR members get more hostile the more threatened they get towards another company's products. It appears as though MS really did some impressive things today.

Windows 10 was "designed" for a tablet. It's completely ****** OS for a laptop even worse if your upgrading an older pc. Windows xp was their most stable operating system and that's pretty pathetic since it's almost 16 years old. I've always gone with Windows for computers but I think that has come to an end for me.

Summary: Microsoft killed iPad and iPad Pro. Face it, competition is good and its good for Apple to get bit in the butt for not accepting hybrids. Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book blew both them out of the water. It's over. Apple can try next year though!

Wow, lots of salt ongoing in this thread. If I had spare thousands, I would immediately order the Surface Book 512GB.

The return? Microsoft didn't go anywhere. This *is* however, a very different Microsoft. They know what they are doing and I love it. 95% sure I'll pre-order a Surface Book tomorrow.

When I saw the new Macbook, I hated the removal of the magnetic charging port and only one USB-C. I was so disappointed and it felt like Apple's only goal was to make the macbook smaller.

The Surface looks fantastic and I'm sure you will love it. I can't wait to test it myself. I love my Air but I think the Air have been demoted to hobby status. I think many people will look at it just like you did.

Microsoft's Captain is sailing them in a bold new direction, Tim still hasn't found his wind and I think he never will

I think surface book is an interesting proposition, the problem with the surface, and ipad pro will have, is they are not comfortable to use on the lap, which is very important for a portable professional computer, the surface book, ability to adapt itself to different situations, makes it very appealing. You need to take notes, you have a pen, and unhinge the tablet, or just set it to the opposite side of the keyboard, so it rest like a tablet, you need to do serious work while it sits on your lap, you hook it to the keyboard and have a stable laptop.

Looks slick and nice to to add.

On the flipside of that, I have a Win10 desktop PC that hasn't even looked at me funny since I upgraded out of beta. Nary a hiccup or guff up to be seen.

There's one universal truth among all computers, Mac and PC both: they're stupid. At some point, they will do something that'll make you want to punch them in their big dumb faces. Macs tend to be better in this regard, but all you have to do is look down in the help section of the forums or do a quick internet search to see that they're far from perfect.

At some point, something will **** up on you. It's an inevitability, no matter what you're using.

Yeah it is. Lost in all the insanity today is that October 26th is also the grand opening of the 5th Ave flagship Microsoft Store that will have all this glorious hardware on display. I don't think MS will have to stoop to gimmickry to bring in the crowds this time. There is genuine excitement!

The beautiful thing for MS now is that they have options for Windows users. A hybrid or a full laptop with a perfect typing experience. Either way - profit. Ka-ching.
