I think since Apple's prior stance on styli has been steadfast against it uses, I can only draw a conclusion of Apple copying MS in this case. I don't think Apple and MS are sharing any development at all.

If That was in regards to the 2007 iPhone introduction, then the context should be clear that this was in regards to stilus use with a smartphone. The 2011 patent application seems to refute the claim that Apple was steadfast against the concept.

Remember in 2007 multitouch was new technology, and they were putting all energy into their RDS to get people excited about it as being the input method of the future. I think ( as you and I can only speculate) that their stance was only in marketing their smartphone, and multitouch technology.

They didn't.
Yes they did
They compare the Cpu with that Ivy bridge and they compare that dGPU with Iris HD6000 and in both cases the difference is almost double but for apps that are using OpenGL, because in OpenCL there isn't

YAWN, seriously they ape'd the macbook pro so close then totally ruined it with that awful hinge and hinge gap! The major downside of all this MS tech is windows, which stinks so bad, especially on a phone. They really are gonna feel so much pain on all these products as they fail to sell in any meaningful numbers at any meaningful prices. MS should just sell office and be done with it.

Some die hard Apple fans are just sad. Windows 10 is the most advanced OS, period. Use it before talking trash. And fail to sell? Surface Pro went from $0 to $3.5bil in 3 years and pushed every single computer maker to make a copy cat, including your beloved Apple.

I use it, like it, but don't see anything all that advanced with it.

Can you elaborate?

Panos?? Are you kidding? He crushed it today. He actually spoke directly to the consumers. He showed us the cool stuff that differentiates these products. He was genuinely excited! He is a major reason this event was such a success and is flowing through the press with enthusiasm.

Unless of course this is less of a "dodgy geezer" in your eyes:
No, he sounded like a QVC presenter. He repeatedly used the work "product" which really irritated me. It was the kind of hard sell you get when you are trying desperately to convince somebody. He was clearly over selling things all the way through. His style was obviously liked, but I found it aggressive and weird. Maybe it's a British thing?

"copy cat" ? Apple has an tablet and laptop 2 in 1?
if you refer at ipad pro , this is an ipad not a hybrid...so they copy their own product -the ipad and the pen from the others. The pen idea i think is from back "90
and yes windows 10 is nice because has a nice UI...like in this days the design sell !
Physical or UI design in these days is the selling point and not the infrastructure
remember iOS7..was a boom because of the UI change
a ferrari is very liked because of the design not about anything else, design is over performance
the lag on windows 10 is there 100%

Microsoft, you're hilarious.

Windows 10 is the most advanced OS, period.
Nyeah, that's just your opinion, not an actual fact. IMHO, if it still has a registry (and it does) then that alone makes it the least advanced OS in the world, period.

Based on the response from the press and most everyone else, I would just say it is a 'you' thing.

From seeing videos I agree that the eraser function might be crappy. It looked more like undo, rather than eraser, that is when you applied the eraser it would simply undo whatever you did after putting the pen tip down. .
Well, "crappy" is relative to the wielder of said crapiness. When writing, I prefer that method of erasure rather than trying to find that tiny recessed button in the current surface stylus to do it.

Why do arrogant artists assume the stylus was invented exclusively for drawing?

Yeah, it's a tactic that works time and again. Ask any sales mentor or coach. To me it's just a bit cheap. But it got the message across which is the main thing. It really is market-stall sales. Although the dad dancing in the Apple pres was just as cheesy.

you are joking? how can you not get it?
Ultimate laptop and with another own product can replace your laptop ??!

Is it really that difficult to comprehend what they're saying? The Surface Book is the ultimate laptop. The Surface Pro can replace YOUR laptop.

It is only "hilarious" for anti-MS bigots and those who already own a Surface Book and looking for something else (which would be nobody at this point)

Oh... I get it. They used the word "laptop" for both.

The one on the right literally says you don't need the one on the left.
But, sure, mental gymnastics smooths over poorly thought out Microsoft marketing.
Because "laptops" clearly doesn't include "ultimate" laptops.
So, presumably not:

If Apple posted the tagline "Ditch the laptop. Get an iPad." why wouldn't you do a double-take?

You clearly have not used Windows 10 or Yosemite/El Capitan.

I have a Windows 10 PC ... a Surface Pro 3 .. a iPad (2014)... and A 2014 MacBook Pro running Yosemite.

While I love all my devices and I love the improvements to Windows 10.... it STILL doesn't come close to iOS and OSX for me. I would pluck my eyes out with a rusted butter knife if someone took my MacBook and iPad away and forced me to only use my Windows devices. However if someone took my Windows devices.. I'd be just fine on my Mac and iPad.

I get it, you dislike Microsoft. That's fine you are entitled to your opinion, and there plenty of things to criticize Microsoft for, but that ad copy is not one of them.

I still don't get it. One is a laptop, with a dGPU. They are claiming this is the ultimate laptop (at an ultimate price). If you don't want a laptop (including the Surfacebook), for price, don't need the extra horsepower, whatever, the Surface Pro can replace that. Why not try to appeal to both use cases? Is the end, the OS is the same.

And Apple couldn't post that because iOS doesn't really REPLACE what you can do a laptop. Surface is a bit different, no?

Looks interesting, It's too bad that Windows 10 has completely turned me away from Windows.
Forcing users to do an upgrade install(which keeps a ton of useless files) vs a clean install then breaking file permissions that prevents me from accessing my files.
A ton of software/hardware incompatibility that mysteriously were not mentioned in the "compatibility checker program".
Who created an operating system that doesn't natively support video playback/DVDs playback/basic video editing without buying software from Windows.
Sure you get the dvd app free if u upgrade but they take it away if you ever need to reinstall Windows 10- who came up with that genius idea.
I did upgrade my 2012 netbook to Windows 10 with clean install option. I have not seen a single hiccup in running anything. Heck, I didn't have to download any additional driver. Everything worked perfectly fine after the installation.

Sorry you don't understand. They make a wrong statement for their own products.
I love Microsoft Because it came up with this ecosystem with mobile and desktop windows 10 hardware
I android is starting going down because from now on who use windows will buy a micrososft phone to get that extra features. And same with apple..android is getting alone without any desktop class OS

Surface book is the best laptop BUT Surface Pro 4 can replace your Surface Book?? now you get it?

so making a conclusion The surface Pro 4 is the ultimate laptop

Wow you are quite the disaster. First, I don't even know where this image comes from. Likely old marketing mixed with new. But I don't see what you don't understand about the different levels of the product and use cases. Some might want a very beefy laptop. Some might want a less expensive lower powered more portable device.

What is in this for you to fight MS so hard?

I run both, but I think my preferences are flipping the other way.

I have an iMac i7 27" with Yosemite and bootcamp Win 10. Both OS are excellent and stable. OSX looks prettier, but Win 10 is faster. Plus Edge is a fantastic browser.

I originally switched to macs for the software benefits, like Garageband, iPhoto and iMovie/FCE. All my other software is available on both platforms. Garageband is now more fun on a pad, photos have taken a backwards step and movie editing has become a pain.

I take a lot of video and I was trying edit new 4K footage a couple of weekends ago. I had all sorts of issues with the file types and codecs in OSX and the pre rendered footage was painfully jagged and slow. In despair, I flipped to windows and tried Adobe Premiere which I have in a bundle by never use (older versions were terrible). Every format was supported (in Win and Premiere), the pre rendering manipulation had no lag and the tool box worked a treat, mimicking a lot of Photoshop options. Best of all, it was happy to read and write to an external source, rather than we have to bring in 95gb of data.

I love my iMac, but increasingly it's just the screen, the all in one convenience and aesthetics. OS wise, its staying booted in Win 10 more that OSX now. When it comes to renewal time, it won't be a straightforward choice. I could get a Surface book, Continuum box and a 34" 21:9 curved 4K monitor for about the same price.
