When the first iPhone came out, I was skeptical on the size.
I really wanted a Nano version e.g. smallish and sleek.
Well I finally got into v2 (pre 3GS) and its become part of my body now ;)
With the upcoming larger version (iPad) coming, maybe its time to bring that rumor up (Nano size) ;)

It’s so funny all the damn internetzzz going gaga over MS’ announcement that won’t be shipping for almost a year.

Looking forward to what this phone will really deliver. Apple needs some serious competition cuzz at the very moment they don’t have any.

So I gave it a day, and then watched the 22 minute demo. Overall I think it looks like a nice phone that will probably get better over time. Since I use a Touch Pro WinMo 6.1 phone for work, I definitely see myself upgrading to this once it's released later this year. The e-mail client looks great, Bing looks great, standard auto-correction and then the ability to 'spell check' looks great, Zune looks great, pocket IE is no longer awful, and I think the Xbox stuff will be great.

All that said, I will be keeping my personal iPhone for a number of reasons, but not the least of which is I don't see the Windows Phone 7 replacing it. There's just way too many apps and the integration with Mac/iTunes is excellent. One thing that I think Apple could take away from this for iPhone OS 4.0 is to have a new 'home screen' that mimics the functionality of the WP7, but with a bit better design. That would be *in addition* to the standard app launcher; just flick to get to apps. Also at the beginning of the demo where he flicked away the Today screen, that's what I really want the iPhone locked screen to look like.

Anyways, the phones can coexist, and I think they each can learn something from the other.

The first picture just makes my eyes bleed. That first image is so cluttered and ugly it should be killed with fire.

Right on.

This is M$ answer to the iPhone after 3 years?! They introduce a clunky and cluttered interface look that just screams 1998?!

And as far as "competion is good" - I don't know that simply copying an app home screen constitutes "competition"

I agree with this statement, as do A LOT of people. The iPhone's homescreen looks tired, and boring.

But looking at the iPad, it seems like Apple is not looking to change the home screen at all. All updates since iPhone OS1.0 have been incremental. A complete revamp is welcome, but doesn't seem like Apple's MO these days (they're more into a slow trickle of new features)

iPhone 4.0 needs to deliver. With Android, and now WM 7 series, the landscape is changing quickly and Apple needs to play catchup or risks loosing marketshare.

Not bad at all!

Finally, folks from Redmond will change this stinky 3 years old Steve Jobs' diaper.

I have a hard time to see any innovation coming from Apple for quite a while now except of course of a few big ones: Copy & Paste, MMM. LOL:D Oh, wait a revolutionary mini-DVI connector, just needed one more bc HDMI just does not cut it.

"Being first" does not always mean "will last". It also nice to see real people behind M$ products vs. perpetual Me,Me,Me of Apple CEO. As Steve was sucking on his "multi-touch" bone and stuffing his iTunes store with junk, others were quietly building a foundation for the next generation platforms (bing, zune & xbox live, maps and etc.)...

This.

Also, after first seeing the images, my reaction was LOL

November/December. There's a high possibility this will be outdated by the time it comes out.
Absolutely!

As Macrumors.com bullet-pointed from WIRED's article (Underlines and reordering=me)

- Next iPhone coming is an A+ update
- Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with
- iPad is up there with the iPhone and Mac as the most important products Jobs has been a part of
- Regarding the Lala acquisition, Apple was interested in bringing those people into the iTunes team
- New Macs for 2010 are going to take Apple to the next level
- Blu-Ray software is a mess, and Apple will wait until sales really start to take off before implementing it.

I'm happy for all of the healthy competition. For all of the copy-cats, there are a few that might just keep Apple on its toes. Apple never needs others to spur them on to do more, but this helps them stay even more aggressive, all the better for us.

I believe that iPhone 4.0 is going to knock our socks off, honestly. I don't believe Steve would've said it unless he knew that Apple would deliver. Looking forward to June!

At the same token lets look at those 2 underline things.
I though I remeber them saying an A+ update from iPhone OS 1.0 to 2.0 to 3.0.

In that time what has been added to the iPhone OS.
MMS -- Hmm that was a no excuse day 1 item so not rather sad it took over 2 years to bring it up to par with everything else
Voice controls -- Something else other dumb and smart phones had 2 years ago so not impressive.
Video recording -- Another items lagging behind everyone else apple added.'
Copy Paste -- A no excuse day 1 item there and sad it took them so long.
Tethering -- Let apple slide but not impressive at all.

App store -- That was rather cool but not so much the iPhones OS there but the back end.

Notice a pattern there. All the "big updates" to the iPhone OS are not really that impressive but a lot of no excuse should of had it 2 years before hand items. Based on that pattern do not count on much truly being added to iPhone OS 4.0 and the "Can't keep pace" part from google. Just do not see it happening. Apple great at the App store and syncing with iTunes part but the iPhone OS itself has not had much added to it in 2 years expect for items it should of had 2 years before hand.

This is nice. It's good because they can tweak it after the release of the iphone 4.0.
But anyways.. after seeing this, and looking at my iPhone, I've realized how ugly all the apps on my home screen are.

If apple does not change this and put a front facing camera with a native ichat app, I'm jumping ship.

I'm still gonna keep my 3GS, but it might be the last iPhone I get for quite some time. Too much good stuff out there these days.

They didn't say that.

Whether or not you would have preferred those features earlier, they were still major feature updates. All you've proven is that when Apple issues a major iPhone update, it can add a lot of new features and make large changes.

"Others were quietly building a foundation for the next generation platforms" based in great part on the multitouch and App Store trail that Steve Jobs was blazing for them.

Obvious conclusion: the word innovation does not mean what you think it means.

Yes they were major updates but they were add items that should of been there at day one so they are not impressive. No way around that fact that some of the major "new features" apple add should of been there on day one. There is no good excuse for apple not having MMS or many of the other items.
Those major new features were catch up items at best.

And your point is what? Apple has shown that they can add major new features soon enough to prevent competitors from being able to leverage any supposed advantage.

I'd say every single significant addition to iPhone OS has been great. Apple have listened to what people want and added some nice functionality to the device. (The Appstore was the single best feature I saw added to the iPhone personally.)

To complain about the features the iPhone lacks is wrong too. If the iPhone lacks something you need, get something from the competition that does it (this is just what I've done).

The features of the iPhone are well documented to buyers so they must know what they want.

The point being made is to look at the pattern and it is pretty clear that iPhone OS 4.0 will not be that impressive. It to stop counting on 4.0 to be some end all thing but release it will be catch up items or not impressive at all items.

I am getting tired of people saying iPhone 4.0 OS will be so GREAT and Grand (or even 4th gen iPhone for that matter) it will just be more catch up or minor updates.

But you made exactly the opposite point. You pointed to a long line of massive improvements and great new features that have been added in previous major updates. You listed a ton of reasons that iPhone 3.2 is very very different than iPhone 1.0.

Why should we expect that iPhone 4.0 will not continue this history of major changes?

What is rarely mentioned is while some features (say Copy/Paste) have come later than expected, their implementation is superior to the competition. Apple's Copy/Paste is better than the same function on WebOS or Android.

So...do you want it now or do you want it good? ;)

(That said, the foot-dragging by Apple on a lot of these items can be discouraging. Yes, we want it good, but we want it good faster.)
