Apple doesn't care. They are obviously getting out of the Mac computer business. The obscene pricing is just their way of milking their fan base as much as they can while they exit.

I have 2007 Imac, a 2009 Mini, and a 2012 air. All need replacing but no up to date Apple product to buy. Would feel like a chump buying their current old tech offerings.

I understand the gripes about the hardware/specs of the latest MBP, but what many of the you in this thread are overlooking in regards to switching to Surface Pro from MBP, is the most important in my mind, and the reason you'll get me to switch away from Apple when you pry it from my cold, dead hands... "it's the software, dummy."

macOS > Windows, by a lot. Five minutes on a Windows machine, any Windows machine, makes me what to hurt someone.

.....If Apple sees a sizable defection of professional users, who are seeking maximum performance over aesthetic and portability, they may someday court those users again with hardware that satisfies. But don’t hold your breath. Apple is clearly tailoring its products for the masses that made Apple the powerhouse it is today. Even though Apple says it refuses to “make and sell commodity products”, it is doing so in spirit if not cost.
One can hope, and evidently many MacPro and MacBookPro users are eagerly waiting for that day.

This article is basically a Trump speech...

BLAH BLAH BLAH - I SAY THIS AND IT'S TRUE. WILL I BACK IT UP OR SHOW ANY PROOF OR FIGURES! NO. YOU WILL JUST BELIEVE ME. BLAH BLAH BLAH

So Apple released the sales numbers and full breakdown of what version were sold for the Iwatch to back up their claims of what a success it is right?

seriously people, do you really hear your selves???? if apple made it thicker with all the ports and stuff you scream its too big and behind what the others are making. I think the ones who complain the most would never be happy with what ever apple would put to market.

look at the surface pro 4. its a tablet that could replace a desktop. you say its better than a MacBook cause its lighter and can do all this stuff and you get your ports and card reader. have you looked at what you really get when its all said and done????? to spec it up against a MacBook your not as cheap as what you think. you still need a keyboard cover and to use it seriously at home, you need the dock... wait what... a dock..yep 200 dollars from ms. also, that built in card reader is micro sd. still need an adapter. remember, its a tablet first and a computer second... falls into iPad Pro group in my opinion. the surface gets very hot when tasked to do any serious work for any given amount of time. also, you get updates forced upon you at will, even if you don't want them they get pushed through.

surface book.... a bigger tablet with a keyboard dock. yep, a big tablet. ms just adds the dock into the price. ms adds also target the 13 MacBook in the adds. price wise, a 15 MacBook Pro base is cheaper than surface book with similar specs. you also have to remember all the benefits go away once you detach the unit from the keyboard. the graphics is built into the keyboard dock, along with the extra battery. also, has anyone noticed the huge gap when the lid is closed.

be careful what you wish for, cause your still gonna complain anyway.......o_O

How's your experience in the wild so far?

I'm very happy with the switch. It's a bit more fiddly, especially since I built my own machine and after being using apple for such a long time I'm probably very meticulous on how things should be (but I like fiddlyness and know my ways around computer hardware). But I don't regret it for a second and have no plans to go back. To be honest if apple doesn't put a bit more effort into their products on the iOS part either I might stop buying apple products all together (meaning rumors of iPhone 7s to be a speed bump as well etc...)

I think one of the main reasons why so many are frustrated these days is that apple are keeping prices up and with those prices people expect too of the line products and innovation. Currently they are neither and the Mbps as had more problems than most other computer manufacturers

I call bull****on this story. When I bought my new MBP there was a HUGE line to buy one. They couldn't keep them in stock. I LOVE my new MBP and would NEVER buy a piece of crap Windows machine. Apple isn't perfect, but they are still the best there is.
Exactly what I saw last thursday in a reseller.
I was in getting my 2012 MBP back from a repair. The T-Bolt port stopped working. While I was there they sold three new MBP's and this was a small store.
Even PC-World is pushing the MacBooks over the Surface and that is a real turn up for the books.

Pricing is not an Argument:
The Surface book is 13 inch laptop with a thigh gap.
Compare it to the Mac 13 with i7 and it is
$2400 vs $2700.

I spend more than half my time during the day on a PC and have a Surface pro 3. I had to move to the mac to post this...why? Macrumors kept crashing in the edge browser on the laptop...such irony.

Yup, Microsoft is exactly right on this one. This is the first time in years where I'm pretty convinced that my next laptop will not be an Apple product. I'm done after years of watching Apple ignore the professional market and instead only focusing on gimmicks and making things thinner.

The only problem with usb-c/tb3 is that to many ppl are to stupid to understand what it really is

And that ppl are to cheap to get a couple new cables, or in few cases an adapter

Tim Cook is a lost puppy too busy being a social justice warrior.
... to be remembered professionally as the CEO that alienates customers, kills off a healthy CPU business that was the best of the breed, betrayed his legendary company founder.
He should have stopped somewhere in 2012.

Yeah, because everything Steve Jobs did was perfect. Like....

- the cube
...
- Apple 3
- The Lisa
These three were far ahead of their time. Great ideas, but typical of Jobs' vision they were realized before the tech was ripe.

Lisa became the Macintosh (kinda)
The Cube became the Mini

At least Jobs was DOING something, and what he did was usually visionary and interesting.

And Apple's "amazing" apple watch sales numbers are...??
I spent 30 minutes at the Microsoft store playing with the Surface Studio and was so blown away. As a pro photographer I am looking to replace 2 retouching machines and the iMac is getting very long in the tooth as well. Retouching on the screen was so amazing and the ability to adjust it to any angle was amazing. The Dial was really amazing as well but I preferred it on the desk as oppose to on the screen. The only thing that has kept me from pre ordering two is hard drive file formatting as I have hundreds of mac formatted drives. Really hope apple is listening but to be honest I don't think they care.

It is nice - but the internal (laptop) hardware is 2-3 years old already. The screen is the main selling point of course and it's great value compared to a wacom cintiq even. I suppose being a MS product they can keep in charge of the drivers etc so it doesn't update and screw your machine up which for me is 90% of the problem with windows.

PCs can read HFS+ https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/

I have switched from an iMac to a Dell XPS desktop. Really nice experience. I still use my 2013 rMBP the most, but if MS comes out with a larger screen Surface book, I will be very, very interested. The two OS's are not so different now. Once the blinders are off, there are pluses and minuses. The last OS update broke one of software programs so Apple OS is not exempt from hassles. Once my Mac and Dell are booted up, I'm looking at nearly the same interface (desktop with app icons in the tray).

and the iPhone 4?.....He had to call a press conference explaining why the iPhone lost its signal when held. Had to give away free bumpers to everyone. Fiasco.

and the Lisa did not become the Macintosh.

Think about it - does it make sense that car manufacturers still include a CD changer for all your CD's - or how about a tape deck for your collection? To me it just makes sense to have high speed ports that can be used for any device with an adapter rather than dedicated ports for legacy equipment. Even on the PC side, most of the laptops my company purchases don't have a VGA or HDMI port anymore. They require adapters which makes a lot more sense than trying to accommodate every peripheral type out there with a dedicated port.

Unfortunately their disappointment with the Surface Pro 4 will send them right back next year. I own an SP4 as a secondary machine and the hardware is great - the keyboard/trackpad are one of the best I have used on such a small laptop/tablet. The problem is the battery life is wildly unpredictable and I have had so many issues with just freezing, losing inputs and randomly restarting for updates that I don't feel like I can rely on the thing. The other problem, it really isn't great as a tablet, at least not compared to an iPad.
Ditto, my exact experience with the Surface Pro 4. Returned and got a MacBook, works great.

Neo-switchers deserve what they get. Anyone who thinks MS offers long-term solutions for productivity-minded creatives is deluding themselves. Windows is still ... Windows.

Excluding Apple's Pro creative tools (now only 2 left), all the serious creative applications are on Windows and work wonderfully. Plus Windows has every other app these days. Times have changed, get used to it. You sure you're not the deluded one?

I have a high end Surface Book as my work laptop and use mainly my Macs at home. I'm actually very happy with the Surface Book, it's an excellent and fast laptop. I used to be a Mac only guy, but I no longer have any real preference for MacOS over Windows 10. Both get the job done.

The Edge browser is similar failure iteration like Apple Maps, not too many use them.

No one is perfect. Look at what he DID create vs. the true failures. A lot of Apple "failures" were indeed prototype successes.

There are plenty of true failures within Apple, but they are relatively minor compared to the avalanche of successes.

You can point to almost anything they did as a failure: printers, monitors, first commercial camera, newton, etc. etc. etc. They weren't really failures. And then you can point to a one-time design flaw and scream at it, refusing to **** the blonde hottie because she has a scar in her armpit.
