Yep. If they were, say, $500 less, the new MBPs would be lauded as the best machines to ever grace this earth. People are mad at the price first and everything else falls in line with the trashing.
Not really. It’s about the value. If it was $500 less and had a spinning hard drive and half the battery life you’d get the same outrage.

Sure every 3 months is a stretch but about once a year.

We have Dell laptops with Windows 7 at work and I just recently had to reformat.

And? Windows 7 was released 7 years ago. Your statement means nothing.

Last time I did a fresh install for my home PC desktop was when I purchased a new SSD 3 years ago. I've never felt the need to reformat since then.

Except that this isn't 2020 yet. We need a notebook for now, not 2020.

Apple should have done what they did with the last generation - give us the new tech, in that case. it was Thunderbolt 2 ports, but leave the legacy in stuff too, the next release, go all TB3 if they want. It was too abrupt they way they did it with 2016.
It would have been 'ok' if Apple at least provided their customers with some sort of all-in-one dongle for those adopting the 2016 MBPs. But no, they expect their customers to buy expensive dongles having already paid an extortionate amount of money on the machine itself. Like you said, it was abrupt and inconsiderate to the Pro users who use and are the primary audience for the MBP.

The thing about ecosystems is that they become vulnerable if any one component fails. Apple seems to know the profit of everything and the value of nothing. Sure, laptops and desktops might not bring in profits directly like phones and tablets, but take away the laptops and desktops and suddenly customers seem far less connected to the Apple ecosystem.

The pricing on the new MBP is absurd in the UK, the iPhone is also costly, and both have had various quality control issues. Apple needs to pull its finger out.

There is a right way to introduce the technology and a wrong way to do it. Apple did it the wrong way. Just like the forgot to put a lighting port on the MacBook as well. They screwed up. If you can't see that, then your just following the Apple cult.

Agreed. People need to stop whining. USB-C and wireless is the future and these guys are holding us all back.

If Apple had only left in the SD card slot and say 1 USB port you wouldn't see most of this backlash. The graphics card issue can be resolved by Apple soon.

The "coup de grâce" for Apple and for Tim will be the rollout of new Mini, Air and Pro using the A10x rollout and elimination of x86 chipset and the elimination of being able to run 3rd party applications just like the iOS store. Then most of us will bail.

Just curious. What work do you do? Your battery life seems excellent compared to some reviews.

Ruby on Rails web development mostly. That means I run the RubyMine IDE all the time along with a Postgresql database, a bunch of terminal windows and a bunch of browser windows. I also run source code management tools and the usual Mail and Messages and other productivity apps. In term of screen brightness I run about 50% typically. On my 2013 rMBP when I ran my test suites, the fans would spin up and the machine would get quite hot but on this machine it is noticeably quieter and cooler when running the same tasks.

Out of interest my battery now says 6h40m remaining as I went for a cup of coffee there and it switched the display off while I was away.

Quite honestly, I am seriously thinking of getting an LG 5K (ugly) monitor when/if they ever actually ship and then selling the iMac. This laptop is fantastic!

LONG TIME die hard apple fan and imac and mba/mbp user. I have waited and finally was so turned off w/ new MBP, I just built a new $1200 pc to replace imac(w/ gtx 1070 and i7 w/ 32 gig memory). It's to mainly work on adobe suites and it's doing perfect.

Apple used to be awesome, but they got complacent and forgot about the users who started their rise.

What do you want ? A hug from some Apple employee ? Complimentary drinks by Apple ? A super innovation such as micro blender that spills juice from one of the usb-c ports?

And? Your point? I've been using an updated Win 7 to 10 since 10 was released. I haven't had to reinstall, other than a HDD issue, it's been rock solid.

This is also one of those smoke screen statements that's not backed up with any numbers.

For example last month they could have had 10 mbps traded in and now this month its 15. That's more than ever before?

I can't say that I'm surprised, because I'm one of those statistics. I own a SurfaceBook because the MBP wasn't a good value. I'd much prefer to get a MBP, but sadly, the price, and features just didn't mesh with me

The Surface Book and MBP are priced similarly when configured the same.
This is true. I just looked at a Surface Book with 1 TB SSD, 16 GB memory, Nvidia GTX965m graphics with 2 GB video memory, and core i7 is $3299. I can't find for sure what processor this is (I didn't find this on the MS site), but think it is a 2.6 GHz Skylake dual core. This is 13" device (no 15" device is available).

For the same price I can get a 2.7 GHz quad-core processor, 16 GB memory, 1 TB SSD, and Radeon 460 graphics with 4 GB memory on a 15" tbMBP. The surface can come apart and be used as a tablet, and it has a pen and touch. Frankly, I don't need those and the 15" tbMBP suits my needs better for the same price.

For comparison, a 13" tbMBP with 16 GB memory and 1 TB ssd costs $2199. It has a 2.9 GHz cpu and no discrete GPU.

It seems that, as has been my experience in the past, it isn't that Mac laptops are expensive if you compare them to similar quality/functionality Windows laptops. It is just that there aren't as many choices with a Mac laptops, and especially on the low end..

How about a company that doesn't prioritize 40% profit margins over products and service... because both are going downhill! Open your eyes and don't follow blindly!

I am one of them and I am happy with it!
The ports, the de-facto MagSafe, the fairly well implemented connection to iCloud and the touchscreen are sealing the deal for me. And yes, not everything went smooth at first, but I figured it out, the challenge was fun, and now everything is working just fine.
The iPhone is staying right now, but the macbook is online for sale.

I hope Apple takes note and listens to its customers.

We want ports, card slots, bigger batteries, faster/better graphics.

Not what Apple is offering with the current MacBook Pro's.

Apple needs to stop behaving arrogantly and listen carefully to its customers.

It's only your opinion :) For example I hate ports, I don't need them in the era of wireless stuff. I was pissed, that they made 4 USB-C instead of one! So different people, different needs. And you can always buy old Macbook, if you plan to stick with old technologies.

Sounds like desperation from Microsoft to me.

Anytime you need to compare yourself to the competition you are already behind.

I love Apple's products, and I am sure I will even love the new MacBook Pro with the touch bar... but... Apple has compared themselves to the competition... "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC". Remember?

My wife as casual user (medical business) will not switch from her MBA due to her experience with OSX (or macOS) - switching (back) to Windows would be a pain, so she will probably get new Macbook.

For me, as a web systems programmer, I work on different systems with virtual machines (linux). It does not matter if I need to work on Windows or OSX for me and I can switch without problems. After seeing these new rMBP and double-checking battery capacity they use, I surely won't be in a market for one.

Apple could get away with low end graphics in their top-end 'pro' machines - I do care, even only playing casually World of Warcraft. But 4h battery life and no 32GB ram (with few virtualised machines running in the background) made my choice clear.

I know it will be hard to buy something that LOOKS as good as MBP. Lets just hope M$ gets it done right this time and Windows will be back under my hood.
