We'll see, but people seem to slowly be starting to question the point of iOS as it currently is on the iPad Pro, they want more powerful features like more then two windows on a 13" device.

Im in the same boat. I would like to use an iPad for my day to day working whilst out and about, but the software is just too slow to use to make it worthile over my laptop. I would like Apple to seriosuly improve iOS 11 for the iPad. Before pushing the button on this I am going to wait to see what Apple have in store.

yes, the only "professional users" are those "rendering motion graphics in adobe after effects" .... or thats a far far less than 1% of users.

the delusion involved in convincing yourself that people using after effects on a tablet is even remotely a segment that needs addressed is mind boggling.

PS: EVERYONE is really excited you like the pixel. the pixel IS a great phone, funny how an OS functions without a manufacturer needing to add tons of bloatware to it, you know, like the iphone, you HAVE to see the OBVIOUS difference between a pixel and a standard android, clearly the pixel works far better than a samsung, LG, HTC blowing a gig of ram and 20% of the processing powering running said bloatware..

the ipad pro is exactly what it wants to be, a high end tablet that can do 99.9% of desktop tasks 99.9% of the world population need it to.

and frankly, if im going to be "RENDERING MOTION GRAPHICS IN ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS" id be more confotable on a macbook than a tablet. both cost the same. both weigh the same, the surface pro weighs double the ipad air 2 and 33% more than the ipad pro..

"man i wish my tablet weighed as much as a notebook so i could render motion graphics in adobe after effects." - no one.

Well said. No one seems to accept this.

An Intel Core i7 which requires a fan to keep cool is only 1.7x faster than a 2 year old A9X ARM CPU? Doesn't sound too impressive.

While running a full desktop OS with zero compromises versus a blown up phone OS, I'd call that very impressive. I'm not trying to denigrate the ipad, but I'd be curious how fast Osx runs on it. Unfortunately we will never find out because Apple is too busy making money from the consumers they've convinced need 2 devices.

All what I was trying to say iPad Pro is still a tablet, it's limited compared to a laptop so comparing the two devices are will not work.
I didn't limit the usage of computers I was mentioning an example, but thanks for your kind words.

I guess I am just lost on what your point was then. You were comparing the two as if an iPad should be able to do everything you can do on a laptop.

I'd rather see them beef up iOS than bring MacOS over. Too bad neither will happen.

Then you will get "more of the same" from Apple, will still have a crippled iOS mobile platform and the Surface Pro will still have a full blown operating system that will take advantage of a more powerful processor than anything ARM (and Apple) have to offer. That's what.

It's a tablet vs a laptop, of course there will be differences in an OS. Not sure why this comparison keeps coming up. Windows 10 is great for what it is and the people that prefer it. iOS is great for what it is and the people that prefer it. There is nothing to compare here.

Hmm, a full blown computer or a tablet-sized phone without the phone? Doesn't take long to decide. At least Microsoft realized the toys are worthless if the battery life is so short you can't use it. My Pro4 gives decent battery life, much better than my rMBP. If only it was slightly larger and had better keyboard. Then again, if I have to choose inferior keyboard I can use all day or a better one I can only use half a day, it's an easy choice. Plus on the 2016 rMBP the keyboard is just as crappy as on the Surface so there goes the advantage. Another advantage is that USB3 port. You can actually connect something to it without adapters.

What is so impressive about creating a laptop with the newest Intel processor?

I'm not tempted by this for the sole reason that it has Windows on it.
But what Microsoft is doing right is not just slapping a phone OS onto a tablet and expecting us to fall for it.
Are you paying attention Apple?
No. They're just slapping a Tablet OS onto a Laptop and expecting us to fall for it.

No of course not, my point was why comparing the two devices? The iPad is great as a tablet and I'm not gonna think of the Surface Pro if what I need is a tablet! and vice versa :)

and I'm with u that some laptop users can do their stuff on tablets, the margin is getting smaller between the two with time...but there are still some limitations that will push u to keep your laptop around :)

Well
As you're in the UK, you'll appreciate there's definitely one thing the Surface Pro can do that the iPad can't: wait a month while it's being repaired under warranty.

That's the big decider for me. In my experience you can't just judge a product on how it works when it's going right, but what happens when it goes wrong. Leadtimes currently in the UK for any Surface Pro warranty repair past the standard 30 day DOA period is really, really steep. Out of warranty pricing is eye-watering; infinitely more expensive than Apple.

And never mind MS's telephone support or even getting an RMA sorted in the first place. So many hoops to jump through with registering the device etc., making it a pain if you've bought them in bulk through business accounts. It's just not a case of "it's in warranty, check the serial number". Goddamn it's infuriating.

If Microsoft want to tout themselves as a premium brand with premium hardware, they'd better damn well step up with support and step up fast. It's not like the UK is an insignificant market.

Well to balance things up, when my iPad Air 2 started to play up, I took it to my friendly Apple shop (2 hour Drive), to be told I has to make an appointment to have it looked at! Next appointment availability 17 days in the future. As a helpful suggestion, I could take it an approved partner and get it seen in 6 days, but I would have to pay even though the device was only 7 months old. I waited the 17 days and when I got there, they said "wait a minute, this isn't a UK unit....we cannot look at it" (it was a brand new unit purchased at Singapore duty free).

After much arguing they finally accepted as faulty and offered me a refurbished unit on the proviso, that I never make any further claims for the balance of the warranty period. My only experience of the magical Apple support.

I have a bent 6 Plus, in the exact spot they bend, which also caused the screen to stop responding per the "genius" and they wanted me to pay 329 to fix it :rolleyes: That was magical!

Considering how most use cases for the Surface Pro seem to be similar as that of a "pure" laptop, I wonder how the new Surface Laptop will effect the Surface Pro's sales? I'm starting to wonder if the Surface Pro is simply a Surface Laptop with "regular Windows 10" and a not-so-great, detachable keyboard.

I'm glad Microsoft is giving us options, though.

It's more stable than an OS that is basically abandoned. Congrats to them?
Not sure exactly what your point is. Which OS the abandoned one? I would ponder a guess that you think MacOS is the abandoned OS? Whichever one you mean could you explain why?

MacOs is 3 worlds above windows... iPhone is also 3 worlds above windows phone...

Macbook Pro is one world above any regular laptop PC...

But in the tablet segment, this tablet is better than the actual Ipad... I really hope Apple to take some of the ideas of the iOS 11 Concept and propose something new in the next iPad Pro

After 14 pages and 344 posts, my opinion that the iPad is purely a consumption device hasn't changed. And that isn't likely to change with whatever iPad Apple brings out next.

They forgot to say that their products include, at no extra charges, more virus attacks, more malware and more vulnerabilities than Apple's products.

Yeah, let's blame Microsoft instead of the people who go to porn sites, download torrented warez, never update flash/java and run every attached file they get in their e-mail after disabling their anti-virus because a "friend" told them their old budget potato would run faster that way. The only reason MacOS is "safe" is because of numbers.

They are useful devices, I pretty much use my 9.7" iPad Pro all the time now, but their are times when I still have to reach for my MB Pro as the iPad is just too limited. Media consumption and browsing is fine.

No, because it'll still be running iOS. The iPad needs a better OS far more than it needs better hardware. It's a great consumption device though. Love it for that.

I'd rather use anything but an iPad to do even basic stuff these days.
It's just too crippled and too compromised as a platform.
