MacOs is 3 worlds above windows... iPhone is also 3 worlds above windows phone...

Macbook Pro is one world above any regular laptop PC...

That would really be stretching it. On every single aspect of the laptop world, MacBooks are either being closed in or surpassed by competitors--you name it. Even the quality of product and service, and smoothness of user experience are not as brag-able as the Jobs days. Only thing that most people still hang on to is the heavily wall-gardened MacOS, which mostly depends on personal preference rather than technical factors.

Not sure exactly what your point is. Which OS the abandoned one? I would ponder a guess that you think MacOS is the abandoned OS? Whichever one you mean could you explain why?

MacOS is basically abandoned. What have they done to it recently that was a big update?

Considering how most use cases for the Surface Pro seem to be similar as that of a "pure" laptop, I wonder how the new Surface Laptop will effect the Surface Pro's sales? I'm starting to wonder if the Surface Pro is simply a Surface Laptop with "regular Windows 10" and a not-so-great, detachable keyboard.

I'm glad Microsoft is giving us options, though.

The Surface Laptop is just an every-day clamshell laptop. You can think of it as a MacBook Pro with touchscreen (that runs windows, of course).

Surface Pro is a tablet and laptop 2-in-1. You can use it just like an iPad once the keyboard is detached.

After 14 pages and 344 posts, my opinion that the iPad is purely a consumption device hasn't changed. And that isn't likely to change with whatever iPad Apple brings out next.
So why are you here reading ?

I never understood this stance. I use my surface pro 4 primarily as a tablet most of the time. What exactly constitutes "tablet" use?

What we really want to know... does this mean the new ULV Kaby Lake chips are finally out? That's one reason why the new MacBook Pro was so dissapointing at launch. Looks like a new Intel IGPU is included too. So would this mean we get an updated lineup at WWDC after all? I mean WWDC is about the only thing Apple officially sells Macs for anymore to develop things on.

The entire industry needs to kill this hybrid tablet-laptop BS and just go back to making solid products. That includes the 12.9 iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface.

Whats next, combining a toaster and refrigerator and selling it to consumers?

Oh god, and go back to the days of using a laptop AND an ipad? No thanks, I'll pass on that, but you keep paying Apple for 2 devices if you like. You don't get much more "solid" than the surface pro line. Hey maybe we should go back to the days when we only had big beige boxes as desktops and kill this laptop-portable BS?

We have a gaggle of the Pro 4s at the office, and I'm "lucky" enough to be assigned to one. 70% of the time it's docked at my desk, so no real difference from a desktop. 20% of the time I use it at meetings for notes/presentations, and it's indistinguishable from a laptop - other than the garbage keyboard, which is sadly worlds better than the crap on the 12" MacBook and the new MBP. The final 10% of the time I try to use it as a tablet. It fails miserably at this task.

The right answer, Tim et al, is a late-2015 MBP and an iPad Mini 4. I'm glad Microsoft is trying, and I'm not irate with it about 3/4 of the time, but the tablet experience on these Surface machines is just bloody awful.

I have to disagree. I use the Surface Pro 4 as a tablet frequently and feel it does a good job. The other two tablets are the iPad and the iPad mini. Both work well, especially the mini. It's still my favorite device. The Surface just offers more in general and has been getting more use, even in tablet mode. It's a little heavy and the battery life is subpar. Only real complaints.

I think it's really the 12 Inch MacBook that this product competes with.
iPad is just a media consumption device, and will never be more than that with limitation of iOS.

While running a full desktop OS with zero compromises versus a blown up phone OS, I'd call that very impressive. I'm not trying to denigrate the ipad, but I'd be curious how fast Osx runs on it.
0 ?
With so much applications non touch ready... there are applications with workaround on iPad and no touch version on windows,
With control panel which still contain options that are not in the sertings application,
...
Unfortunately we will never find out because Apple is too busy making money from the consumers they've convinced need 2 devices.
Apple don't need to spend money on marketing on this. To me, yhe Apple proposal is more relevant.
My MB has much better lapability, keyboard and trackpad than my SP2, and it is still true vs SP4,
My iPad air 2 is more enjoyable to use as a tablet, lighter, with better touch UI,
The data is perfectly shared between my devices, from my laptop to my phone.

If one doesn't continue to keep informed, you loose your objectivity. Never hurts to stay informed even if ones opinion doesn't change.
Why are you here reading?
I did not read the entire thread to then say I am not likely to change my mind...
When I want to get impression on a device, I try it, and seek for experience report about the specific task I am interested in.

So, minimum acceptable configuration (256 GB SSD / i5 / 8 GB RAM) is $1299. Add keyboard ($159) and you're pretty much at non-Touch Bar MBP 13's $1500 (not to mention you can get Touch Bar version for around $1550 on sale sometimes).

"Starts at 799" is very misleading. Minimum viable configuration is $1460.

Minimum viable configuration for you. Hardly misleading.

Apple would rather you stick to buying two devices rather than one. It's more profitable.

Eventually some of us will be buying neither if apple continues to play this stupid game instead of simply making good products. Apple has become a joke and now pulls the sort of stunts you would expect from Microsoft. Yes, remove the headphone jack from the iPhone and then make it impossible to get the wireless earbuds which are never in stock. Insist on using a blown up iOS for a device like iPad pro. Who even knows what they are doing with MacBooks, I'm nearly positive my next one won't be a MacBook unless something big happens.

Slipping in every category and it's fine for a few years because I really don't need to upgrade every year, my iPhone 6 is fine. But when I do, I'm going seriously consider the other offerings because why would I want to tie myself to a Company that clearly has lost it's spark and now resorts to tactics like deliberately limiting products in the hope it will force people to buy two.

Wait a sec it doesn't run windows though, it runs Windows RT S for (S**T)

How much time have you personally spent using Windows 10 S to form such a strong opinion?

I'm guessing zero. Wait and give it a shot if you really care to make an educated statement.

I used to think the same. Then I tried the Surface and changed my mind. If well executed, a hybrid is an awesome and versatile device.

A not so great keyboard..? Have you used a macbook? Dare I ask...have you used that thing Apple calls a keyboard for the iPad Pro?

I'll tell you caveman, that Surface Pro keyboard is bliss.

I think that incompetence was started by Apple, when they stated the iPad Pro was faster than most laptops on the market. Microsoft just fighting back.....
Wrong again my slack jawed friend. Makes since to compare an ARM CPU to an i series CPU if you're promoting its strengths as a mobile CPU. Doesn't work so well the other way around. So again, Microsoft's incompetence is in full swing!!

the MB keyboard is really good, better than the type cover IMHO.
