Same

Fans have become so quiet that I'd rather have one so I'm not getting subjected to throttling
Throttling is not based on whether there is a fan or not, but on whether the cooling is adequate for the amount of watts the processor is using. It’s totally possible to have a fanless design that doesn’t throttle, and one with a fan that does. If the fanless design has higher performance per watt, you might still have higher performance before throttling in the fanless one.

All theoretical of course, but so was your statement.

Fact is, I do hear the fans in my Windows PC. Stop telling me it’s “quiet”, it’s not.

Edit: For the record, I’m totally going to yell at my IT department (who don’t want to support Macs) to get me an ARM Windows PC for work ASAP. It’s great for the Windows segment that they can finally enjoy (some of) the spoils of Apple Silicon Macs.

Everyone pile on Adobe to port their apps to Linux and then Windows dies a glorious death. Apps are key.

It won’t make a difference to Apple’s base because we already have a Unix inside the best designed hardware eco system.
I don't think that so many users with windows use adobe to change the market.

There are several Linux distros built for ARM, Arch and Debian among others. I think compatibility with x86/x64 apps will be a much bigger issue than on Mac or Windows, though.
If someone switches to Linux - why still bother with x86 apps... I am really looking forward to notebooks with Arm CPU and Linux. If Lenovo brings a Thinkpad like that on the market, i'm in.

Could also be why the M4 is in the iPad. The new surface tablets are starting to look interesting.

I just received my new 11" iPad Pro with the new oled display and the new Magic Keyboard. I absolutely love it. It's lighter, thinner, more powerful, has amazing OLED brightness and the new Magic Keyboard makes it chefs kiss great.

But what I just realized ..is that now with M series power and efficiency running on Windows machines, we will be able to get the same device with cellular connectivity and more RAM for less money and running full Windows. We will not have to suffer the crazy religion and "philosophy" Apple preaches about why the iPad Pro doesn't run full MacOS.
Microsoft doesn't give an F about that type of crazy voodoo religion. Soon such tablet devices will run full Windows OS no questions asked.
What this means is that hopefully, I will be able to buy a nice tablet that can run full Windows-Only software such as Solidworks on the same type of hardware as an iPad Pro.

Either Apple gets a grip and allows full MacOs on the iPad Pro, or a whole bunch of people will switch to a Windows version of the iPad Pro. My next new iPad Pro may be a Surface device. And it goes further than that, Both Chromebooks and iPads may go the way of all the devices that doggedly and religiously resisted change in favor of the religion of milking the congregation of complacency.

Competition is good.

Does anybody know if the new Copilot+ PC will have a physical SIM card slot? It says 5G cellular coming in 2024. fingers crossed:)

Sure... Actually does Windows on arm still have the cluster fudge that is the windows Registry? And all the antiquated DLLs? I am guessing not finally?
Yeah and they work well enough that the majority of the population wouldn't know what you are talking about or care as they put their cash down on a Windows ARM PC. Interesting nonetheless, that Microsoft has bought things so far forward, we are back to winding out this old favourite from the Apple Fan Boys annual. Seems Apple finally has some real competition and that's good for Apple owners. We might finally get rid of 8GB RAM in a base Mac for a start.

Looks like you’re in luck then.

Great news then! Maybe I'll give a try to one of these new ARM laptops (yes, I know it runs Windows, but for the price of one MacBook Pro with 18 GB of RAM I can have two of these, one Elite full specs and one entry 13.8 inches...). One surface laptop with the Elite processor, 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD is ~2,000 €. The same speced MacBook Pro 16 M3 is 3,300€. Maybe the SnapDragon X Elite is way less powerful as a M3 Pro and they are only comparing it to the M3 processors?

The iPhone sure was a distraction from Apple's computer business.
This, but unironically. Apple dropped the word "computer" from their name a long, long time ago. That day is basically the "line" that you can point to where Apple shifted from being a great computer company who also made decent personal electronics to the world-leading personal electronics company who also happens to make computers. Considering how Apple as a business has progressed between that day and now, there really isn't much debate on whether that was a good shift in strategy or not.

You mean those things that were a slight problem back when people accidentally overwrote their installation of DirectX 3 with DirectX 2 while installing a new version of Starcraft or Quake 2?

Just like in the 90's, Apple was 5 years ahead and then spent the next 5 years chasing failed projects like Apple TV+, Apple Vision Pro, etc., and let the competition catch up. History repeats itself.
Apple surely doesn’t look competitive anymore and are losing market share on all fronts. Almost every brand has copied Apple’s famous vertical integration by now. The thing that used to set Apple apart from the competition. Some better than others. I hope wwdc will bring some big changes soon. Otherwise I think Apple will become the next Nokia although in a slower space. Name one Apple product that sits apart head and shoulders above the competition. I can’t think of one, you?

The new Microsoft laptops sound great, but when will we see a wide selection of Windows software that takes full advantage of the Snapdragon X Elite SoC's hardware registers?

lol that Microsoft really thinks I’m buying Mac because the hardware.
The other thing is Windows users have always been caught up in machine specs and scores and always overlooking the software that runs on the hardware. Very few people switch platforms for any reason except work.

The mouse and UI began in the 60s. Apple stole nothing. The industry was moving towards UI and Xerox wanted to be an Apple shareholder.
"Stole" may have been a strong word, but they definitely COPIED it and didn't come up with the ideas themselves (which was what the meme I originally replied to was accusing Microsoft of)

The iPhone and iOS devices are all computers.

I think the competition is good for everyone. However, I remain dubious of these claims until the reviewers test these devices. I don't doubt that the CoPilot+ PCs will radically outperform their Intel-based predecessors, but is it really faster & has better battery life than a MacBook Air? That remains to be seen.

Good grief. Yeah technically but you knew what they meant.
Actually I don't know what they mean. I don't think they even know what they mean. People are trying to force this vague definition of a computer that essentially amounts to "what I'm used to because of how electronics were developed and implemented in the past". But that isn't what makes a computer nor should it be.

While I agree with this, it's pretty disingenuous to try to lump personal computers with personal computing devices in this context. After all, Apple makes a very different operating system for the iPhone and iPad than they do for their personal computers, and they purportedly have good reason to do so.

by "some" I assume you mean "most"
This MS event literally just announced a bunch of developers making their applications ARM native. Google, Adobe, and others. But they also claim their emulator is now as good as Rosetta.
