Apple should stop keeping the wheel from spinning. Since they are incapable of making pro machines anymore, they should allow other manufacturers to put Mac OS on PC and focus their iPhone/iWatch/iPad.

Meanwhile my daughter's $1200 HP Spectre X2 continues to have issues thanks to the Win10 Anniversary Update that destroyed support for PCs with SSDs for some reason.

Fortunately I managed to get it working (as in booting up and running for about an hour at a time) and my daughter followed my emailed steps to update the SSD Drivers with something from Intel and it is actually usable for slightly longer than an hour now.

If Apple had released a macOS Sierra update that bricked MacBooks/MacBook Airs/MacBook Pros with SSDs and never bothered to actually, you know fix their OS after 6 months, there would be so many lawsuits Apple would transition to becoming solely a law firm to deal with it all.

But hey its Microsoft and PCs and business as usual and yay they are growing in the "premium" space by suckers who keep getting their crappy touch screen laptop/tablet combos identity-confused products that barely work as advertised and are one official OS update away from becoming very expensive paper weights.

I'll pass on a company that historically makes junk on the hope that they "got it right". The work Dell I use (Latitude) is garbage in nearly every sense of the word.

Lol, now you are basing it on one computer.

2 out of 2 hp envy's are junk and they were both purchased in 2016. When was that antique latitude built?

I'm one of the rare users in the market to get a new desktop. If Apple doesn't update the Mac mini or enable target display mode on the iMac this year I will be building a windows pc instead (the first windows pc I will ever have bought after decades of macs). I use my external display for more than just my computer so an iMac as it is wont work and there's no way I'm buying the current mini.
you can buy a mac pro... HA

And the previous machine which was also a Business Dell and junk. Or the many co-workers that also complain about the POS's. So much so that we are moving away from them.

Lenovo, used to be good. Dell xps is good no matter what you think of your antique computer at work

Those that also rate computer reliability don't have a high opinion of Dell either. But I guess they are wrong because you think XPS is awesome. LOL.[/QUOTE]

wut? there are mobil and desktop versions of office apps. desktop apps are certainly optimized for mouse or trackpad

That's not my experience with Office 2013, which is what we use at the office.

My only argument is the removal of MagSafe. Otherwise, I agree... the pain of USB-C adoption will soon be a thing of the past.
The Griffin Breaksafe eases that a bit. I'm surprised Apple didn't introduce a similar cable of its own (or endorse a third party product like it did with the LG monitors).

If you haven't yet switched to a Microsoft Surface, do so now! Apple is train running straight into bankruptcy from bad products and overpriced watch bands no one asked for, with its stupid train conductor Tim and coal shoveling minion Johnny

LOL..
Bankruptcy?? Seriously?
Posts like this make no sense.
There are legions of folks like me who are totally satisfied owners of a 2016 MacBook Pro. The best computer I've ever owned.
As for Microsoft's claims about the Surface, they mean nothing without data to support them. I keep reading these claims yet it's impossible to verify. The revenue from these products is a fly on an elephant compared to Mac/iPad.

Aare your business computers xps'? If not quit spouting them out. I clearly said the xps line is good.

Proof that xps are rated low?

I've been a Mac user for over 10 years because they were awesome.
The MBP is proving Apple is running for profit and not innovation.
Here's some key differences between SurfaceBook and MBP:
  • SB - 16 hours of battery life. MBP - 10 hour. In reality, SB is a little less with pro usage, but MBP is only about 2 to 3 hours. Pathetic.
  • SB - Has magsafe like connector for safety. MBP - got rid of Magsafe, one of the best inventions ever. This is ridiculous.
  • SB - Has touchscreen. Once you use it you never go back. MBP - no touch screen, but has touch bar, that once you use it, you tend to avoid it.
  • SB - Has detachable screen, where when detached, the OS changes into a tablet mode making it great for simple things like games, email, and browsing. MBP - can't detach screen, so if you wan't a tablet, it need to buy an expensive iPad. Obvious money grab.
  • SB - Has the option for Nvidia GPU, which is great for CUDA developement, which I do. MBP - does not offer this option. So stuck with non CUDA development.
Please let me know if I'm being over critical, but please justify you reasoning. Remember, I was a hard core Mac lover, and Apple makes more money than anyone, so there's no reason that Apple should be 4 years behind the competition. Tim Cook may be fantastic at organizing production, but he would be fired if Steve Job's came back to life for what he has done to the company. Yes, the stock is good, but that cause the company is running for profit. It won't last.

In my country the surface book is priced the same as the mbp 2016, and its not yet updated to the newer version with newer gpu's.

The touchscreen part is really personal, because I hate touchscreens on windows laptop, I went from the dell xps 15 (2015) to the new mbp 2016. Always when you touch a screen you see fingerprints everywhere, just like with your phone, except instead of cleaning it every day, i rather just didnt touch the screen at all. Once you get used to the touchbar i found it really usefull in Affinity Photo an FCPX.

And 16 hours of batty life in a windows machine with normal use my ass. Dell also advertises just like Apple with 4 times the battery life I personal get.

Overall the mbp 2016 feels like an awesome machine which for me works way better then the dell xps 15, I find Windows which i use for gaming only (on my pc with gtx 970) just not suitable for normal tasks. It doesn't feel snappy and it never does what I want. There's always something that is not working which also drives me crazy. It's not always steams fault, regulary I had to update a certain driver to fix a problem which is plain annoying, you never have that **** with a macbook.

I am not sure what this has to do with my post, but okay.....

Maybe the 16GB max of RAM? I know there are other laptops that max RAM higher than 16GB. Hell, my Mac from 11 years ago has a higher RAM max.

I know that 16GB would be okay for most people, but there is two Macs that would suit most people's needs, the MBA and MB, having 16GB max ram on a "Pro" laptop today is kind of sad.

That's largely the fault of Intel, since the notebook-class CPU chipsets do not support the low-power RAM in configurations above 16GB. Apple could have used desktop-class chipsets and RAM, but then battery life (already criticized) would have taken a hit. The rumor is that Apple might release one 32GB configuration later this year.

That said, even most "pros" don't need more than 16GB. It's mainly useful when doing hard core video editing or multiple virtual machines. With fast SSDs paging is far less noticeable than it used to be.

I got my first Mac in 2002, a marvelous Ti667, I was proud to show my friends what a powerful machine it was, I was showing X-Plane being smooth on a laptop, it was quite amazing, I then got a Dual G4 PowerMAc which I still have, got then so many more machines and the latest the worst, hardware is pitiful, obsolescence is not what it used to be, Apple is doing it all to get us back to PCs, at this moment in time I am running a 2011MBPro, and both an 11" and 13" MBAir, they all work fine but should I invest again 1K for a laptop just because it's pretty and they added Siri to MacOS I think I will give Windows 10 a chance... a beautiful computer is always a plus but it can't cost twice as much!

In mine (where I am now) the MBP is priced several hundred us dollars more than in the us. Only 6% of the population own apple products, I see it going down with the increases.

Well done. You sir ... are a poet.

My iMac has been broken for the last two months. I haven't replaced it with anything yet because Apple's current lineup is so completely disappointing.

I've been getting by with my Windows 10 laptop from work instead. It's not awesome, but it does everything I need it to and saves me a few thousand.
Same here. My MBP died last night. I've tried everything I can think of but at 6 years old, I'm not putting any more money into it.

With that being said, I'm not buying the iMac or Mac Mini as they're both outdated. I'll get by with my PC and also save a few thousand.

Sounds like we're in the same boat.

A computer does not have to be thinner to be a fresh design. People have been brainwashed to think that.

Bingo. All Apple has in their repetoire is 'thinner' .. they have exactly no other ideas beyond that. "Use the 2nd most recent intel processors and make it thinner".

With that, you have the entire working philosophy of Apple with regards to their Mac line.

My 2012 MBP was doing that but a complete re-install a few weeks ago (4+ years) cured it.
I removed the SSD that I have been using for 3 years and upgraded it to a 1TB drive. Re-installed and restored my files from a TimeMachine backup and the thing works great. The write speed difference in the SSD's was not that great.

It is still disappointing. The devices now need encouragement to stay alive.

Its not just Macs but also iPhones, my iPhone 5 is still running (gave it to a family member who uses it everyday) but my iPhone 6 needs a restore every couple of months just to stay alive. I'm looking forward to the new Blackberry in Feb, most likely going to buy that. Over all of Apple's BS.

I was in the same boat. Picked up a maxed out retina iMac second hand to tide me over as I don't have time to change my workflow at the moment. This will buy some time until enough other people have jumped ship to MS to blaze the trail. It's happening pretty fast though so far as I can see.

I'm also no longer recommending friends and family buy Apple products. So far I know for a fact two people have switched to Android phones (both really happy), one bought a Surface Book (don't know if she's happy yet), and one picked up a custom built PC tower that is unbelievably fast.

Apple is going to have to start releasing 10 year old technology before I even consider going back to Windows.. and then it will likely be Linux, not Windows.

As for the surface tablet, Windows is a horrible touch GUI even with HiDPI displays. Try poking that little close button in the top left without hitting the minimize or maximize buttons instead... unless you enjoy using a stylus for everything. My surface lasted about 3 months before I sold it off.
